KIVA~ Loans that save lives~ Now in America
I have written about KIVA before, the micro-loan non-profit .organization. This group allows you to loan money, along with other individuals to entrepreneurs all over the world. The loan payback is at 90%, and as you loan in increments that are comfortable to you~ say $25.00~ your risk is little and the rewards knowing your money allows someone to grow out of poverty and grow a business, are great. 10 comments from 5 users

Network news did a story on KIVA in the US. It's a worthwhile grassroots effort that is not a charity. KIVA has my enthusiastic support. BTW: I downloaded your link and added it to my "favorites." posted by

From my reading, this seems to be more or less a charitable donation that you give, is repaid, then you give again, correct? This would not be appropriate as an "investment" but more as a donation that is more of a hand up than a hand out, right? MP :-) posted by

Kiva is a wonderful organization. I'll have to check and see if they're on Facebook so I can "fan" them. posted by

I'll have to check that myself... Use the words you like MP~ the point is a small (donation on your part, loan to the entrepreneur) allows folks to really change their lives for the better. If you click the link they answer all questions. I really like the fact you can pick the entrepreneur you wish to help.

I did further research. I think this is a great way to donate and to see money working for progress. You do not recieve any of the interest, but you can withdraw your principal via a paypal account later, if you so choose. You can also relend this amount once it is repaid. I am so doing this! (BTW, why does GM have a profile on there?) jk... :-p MP

This is really fascinating and something I had never seen before. Something that is truly brilliant in it's simplicity. Are investors able to follow the path of the entrepeneur throughout the process at all (just to see how it is going)? Then again, I guess you can chart well-enough by whether the loan is being repaid on time or not! :) Thanks for the link, Sage! Good stuff. posted by
