Easter break on Fox News
Note* -- The story was on Fox's Web site Monday morning but was gone as of about 4:15 in the afternoon. If anyone finds it again, let me know where. Thanks!

Fox News is now reporting on the Kern High School District's decision in December to change the names of winter and spring breaks to Christmas and Easter breaks. You can find a Web version of the story here:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/i...
(look for the picture of Ken Mettler next to the headline "What's in a name?")

Basically, Fox interviews a local rabbi and KHSD trustee Ken Mettler about both sides of the issue. The Fox story includes a few inaccuracies (KHSD is not the second largest school district in the state, it's not called the Kern County School District and there's no West End High School).

Just for a little refresher on the issue: Trustees voted 4-1 to change the names in December. Joel Heinrichs, Ken Mettler, Bryan Batey and Chad Vegas voted for the change. Bob Hampton voted against it. If you look at past postings on my blog, you'll find a letter from local religious leaders sent months ago to the board urging them not to vote for the name change.

What do you think about Fox picking this up now?

They're trying to hype sales for their Holiday Bunny Baskets.

I think it's good that Fox is picking this up to expose the vast left-wing conspiracy that has been slowly but steadily persecuting Christ by persecuting his kingdom.

And now we have Obama as an antichrist? See here

These guys are putting us on the map as holy roller heaven, but we knew that.
I recall reading all about the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause in the Bible, or was it the Wall Street journal.or matter they are both the same.

Well congratulations to the Rev. Chad and the God caucus on the Board, god is well in theKHSDsystem schools, the tests suck, but that is not God's fault and we know what is important.

Pax, given as alternatives Pope Ratzi and Obama, I'll take Obama.  You can read by his halo.

Not surprising you'd say that, RF. Gesmas, the bad thief on the left of Christ, would've felt the same. Dismas, the good thief on the right, would've gone the other way.

Run awaaaay! Run awaaaay! Bakersfield is rapidly being over run by Christian fundamentalism.  Get out the holy hand grenade and run far away!

Like the character in "Frequency," if he'd just gone the other way he'd have been fine.  By the way, having the "thief's" name is a nice touch to add verisimilitude to the fable.  As is your "right/left" discrimination.  The Bible itself gives no names to the thieves and does not specify which one supposedly went to heaven.  All added after the fact, centuries after the fact, by people who weren't there.

.

But you're nothing if not predictable.  You bring the Obama piece in to revile a man who has done you no wrong, through a piece of art with which he had nothing to do.  I'd say you share more characteristics with "the bad thief," whatever his name was, than I do.

No mention of the "My Sweet Lord" controversy, Pax?  Certainly more appropriate for the discussion--it seems a *BRILLIANT* illustration of the fact that Easter, as it was in ancient times, is being appropriated for the new religion which is supplanting yours.  A chocolate savior, forsooth!

RF, I can picture your new religion having Black Masses (how appropriate with the dark chocolate and all) with communion services using pieces broken off the statue. Hopefully your newfound fervor won't have you end up in a psychiatric hold like what happened to a Cincinnati businessman as related by my good friend, Dave Hartline, at his blog The Catholic Report (www.catholicreport.org). Here is the link to that account, which would fall neatly under what the article in my first posting above had to say about the increase in persecutions against Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular: http://www.catholicreport.o...

How does that differ from the Catholic tradition that it's the body being consumed, Pax?   Dark chocolate is good for you.

.

Oh, there's little danger of my falling into a psychiatric ward.  *I* don't have to follow what the voices-in-my-head say as if they were Divine Revelation.  That puts me one-up on many religious types at the start.

RF, I'll take dark chocolate over rice wafers/bread any day.  Can I have the ears?

That chocolate is so *GOOD* for you is one of them things that almost makes one rethink one's atheism.*  Sure, you can have the ears--I'm back on Atkins again.

.

(*Kidding!)

"Body of Christ?" - if it's chocolate,...I'd say "Amen!"

Run awaaaay! Run awaaaay! Bakersfield is rapidly being over run by Christian fundamentalism.  Get out the holy hand grenade and run far away! Just wanted you to know that this has made me LAUGH three or four times, so far, today.    I keep picturing the Knights from Monty Python.  "...we have been charged by God with a sacred quest...can we come up and have a look?" "I blow my nose at you...you and all your silly English Kkkkk----nigots." "Run away! Run away!!"
