What a thankless people we are!!!
A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week? C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year? E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either. H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital. I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings. K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers. M.. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here. I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discha rge after a few days in the brig. So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

One of those "what's right about America" spiels. No argument that we have alot the majority of countries in the world don't have. We didn't get that way by lucky accident. The cause and effect of our revolution and new concept of government had alot to do with it. Some of the Founding Fathers complained about American pursuit of wealth and frivilous luxuries after we became a country. Among them, George Washington. For all the blessings Mr. Leno lists, there remains problems to be solved and improvements to be made. posted by

Funny, I've just been posting on another blog about that very thing. The founding fathers most likely would have been appalled at the laziness and sense of entitlement of todays people. I can hear them saying..."If you won't do anything about it, you don't deserve it." It reminds me of people who were born to money and never had to earn a dime. They let somone before them fight for it and now just expect it to keep rolling in with no effort on their part. posted by

By the way..Jay Leno didn't write that. http://www.snopes.com/polit... Whenever you get something like that in email, it's best to ALWAYS check it out with www.snopes.com to see if it's true or not. Doesn't mean it's not a good piece, just that it's attributed to the wrong person. posted by

Hi Nancy ..its the content that got my interest..dont care who wrote it..its the truth and people need it shoved in their face..we have the power to make changes but we sit on our lazy spoiled bums and allow the few to make the descions for many. As long as we can go out to dinner, get our weekly paychecks, take a vacation once a year we could give a crap less about whats going on behind the scene.. Mark my words ITs gonna bite us in the butt someday and it could be very soon..might not be in my life time cause im an old fart but I cant see another 200 years of America if people keep on the same track..Did you see the report in the guy that develoed salt water fuel when he was looking for a cure for cancer..he was asked about big companys buying his idea and he said he was fine with it as long as he got enough money to continue his research ..We will all probably watch the video ..say WOW thats kewl ..but no one will ever do anything about it.because it will take HUGE CHANGE. As long as we as Americans were still fighting to survive we werent afraid to step up to the plate..now that we have developed a 'Soccer Mom Society' I just dont think we have it in us anymore until something very drastic happens..and its coming unlless we get off our lazy butts ...trouble is we are teaching our kids to be lazy too so Im losing hope. I hope we are in the crest of losing that apathy. If George Bush has accomplished anything, it's waking up Americans that you have to be proactive about what America is, and what it isn't. America is not great because of what he has done, it is great despite what he has done. I'm hoping the election turns out a record smashing number of voters, regardless of who they vote for. posted by

If America is not great it's because WE allowed it.not because of what Bush has done. Bottom line is this is supposed to be a nation where the people decide how things should be done. If you all want the government to take care of everything up to and including your health care, then you reap what you sow. I couldn't count the times on here that I've said letting the government control your lives is like making love to a gorilla. You ain't done til the gorilla says you're done. You want universal health care but you don't want them telling you what you can do with your body. What you really want is to pick and choose. And so do we all...it just usually doesn't work that way when the rules are for the good of all...not just you. Sioux...Please note that I said it was good information. You're the one who stated at the top that it was from Jay Leno. posted by

False logic, Nancy. What if the American people decide they want the government to take over health insurance? That's not a valid choice? . You're judging a hypothetical health insurance agency on the basis of Shrub's poor performance. We can do better than Shrub did. Heck, your hypothetical gorilla swain could do better than Shrub has. . But "telling you what you can do with your body" is a conservative trait. Why else would they be so intimately concerned with where individual appendages are placed, in the bedroom? posted by

You folks probably have seen my Henny Penny comments so hopefully you understand that I don't see our future as dark and dour as some do. Our country is like a tough old broad and will weather the storms just as she always has. Personally, my blessings are too many to count even though I have a unknown future as a senior citizen. I'm just of the old school where things will work out if you have faith and if you work for that future. I'f Im a pollyanny so be it. Tearing each other apart won't cut it folks. And now I'm off to a Mothers Day lunch with my family. None of us rich, none of us famous, but we all believe. We believe in each other, in ourselves and we believe in our future. If you're talking about disagreeable moms, you aren't talking about me. Discussing and debating is a far cry from disagreeable unless you use it in the literal sense. I'm dis-agree-ing with the naysayers. Toodles y'all. Later. posted by

I was pointing out that there are medical procedures "conservatives" have no problem placing under government control, abortion being one of them. I don't believe the majority of the population wants universal government controlled health care. I also don't believe that conservatives are any more fascinated with what gays and lesbians do in bed than they are with what straights do in bed. I won't argue that conservatives seem to get caught dipping the pen in the wrong inkwell more that Libs do but that may be because Libs are more careful. I seriously doubt Reps are any more randy than Dems since I can't imagine their hormones knowing the difference in political parties. As for that last statement..are you saying that there's a poll showing that conservatives watch more porn than libs? When was the last time anyone checked ID's for political party at the door of a porn shop? Too funny. posted by

I don't believe they've been asked whether they want government-controlled single-payer health care, Nancy. And for the most part, they don't know what it *IS*, since Republicans have been trying to scare them with it for years. The government already runs one single-payer health insurance plan, and runs it better than privately-run insurers. . No, I said that "red" states watch more porn than "blue" ones. "Blue" states like Massachussetts have a better record on divorce than "red" ones like The manufacturers know what side their bread is buttered on: http://www.washingtonpost.c...

RF..ok, I wasn't sure if that was what you were saying or not. I seriously doubt you'd ever get any accurate numbers on porn watchers since it isn't something most people will admit to if asked. On a secret blind study ......maybe. I wasn't addressing divorce numbers although strip bars, prostitution, bi sexual liaisons, porn shops and theaters do contribute to those numbers. As for Universal health care. Isn't it a little arrogant to say that "for the most part they don't know what it *IS*"? Once again you're assuming people can't think or learn without help. I said "I don't believe the majority of the population wants universal health care" stating it as a belief, not a fact. All I have to go by is that no one I've ever talked to thought it was a good idea, including a couple of Canadians. You're not giving the general populaton much credit for intelligent decisions. As for the biggest single payer health care system right now being efficient, you'd have some who disagree with you if you're talking about Medicare. I don't know a lot about it other than what I've studied myself and information given to me by friends and relatives but from what I can see it's confusing, misleading, NOT a single payer system in whole, and can be very expensive. I haven't met my $132 deductible yet and I don't know what my part will be once I do so can't make sweeping statements about it just yet. Once I hit that mark, we'll see if I match up with all the different stories I've heard so far. Even my doctor said they had no clue and had a hard time figuring it out when it first went into effect. I was told I would get all these tests under the "Welcome To Medicare" program if I did it within 6 months after I signed up. What they didn't tell me was that I had to meet the deductible first and pay my part after that. I'm still scratching my head as to the benefit. If this is a sample of single payer universal health care with all it's maize of options, then I feel for the people who will be using it if it ever gets passed posted by

Nancy, you're not going to get to run against the Clintons this time. Just accept it. . Hillary Clinton did what the conservatives *SAY* she should have done--stayed in the marriage and made it work. They'll never forgive her for that. It probably helped that Bill was into girls and not boys, as in a typical Republican political marriage... posted by

Cant argue with that statement RF... Funny how the Liberals are more "liberal" about things like boys with boys but the conservatives seem to be the ones caught at it. They're prolly just they're the ones dumb enough to get caught. Howsumever, I'm not convinced that either side isn't as guilty as the other of all kinds of behavior. While the left loves to talk about how righteous Cons are about sexual misconduct while practicing it, the Dems are every bit as bad about the practice. I don't think being all high and mighty about it makes Reps. any worse...just a bit more hypocritical. As for the Clintons..... If people can still talk about Reagan and Bush, (they aren't running either) I can talk about Hilary and Bill. Or did I misunderstand the comment? It was a bit ambigious since I'm not married, in politics, or running. (To the relief of many here I'm sure ) :-) posted by

LOL..good one RF. Actually I have little use for ANY politician regardless of party but one thing is sure. They are human beings (as much as we'd like to believe otherwise) and many of them can't keep their pants zipped. The power, the "glory", the groupies, the hangers on, the yes men (and women) all make for a powerful temptation that a large share aren't able to resist. Or are so arrogant they feel they're above everyone. Whatever the reason, some people in corporate america, politic, oilfields, will cheat on their spouses, divorce their spouses, mess with the same sex, cheat, lie, fail us, and, in general act like humans. We just expect more from public leaders and when they fall short, Democrats or Republicans, we crucify them. We don't like out leaders to have clay feet. It's just not done doncha know? When our belief system clashes as it does with Cons and Libs, all the ones on the other side are fair game....it's just the way it is. You say potato, I say potahto....... posted by

Audrey, I was just thinking the same thing. I have my BR window cracked about 4 inches with the blind up to the edge. I had to lower the blind as my arm on that side has icicles on it and my feet are also freezing. I'd put socks on but in a couple of hours would be pulling them off. I have a jasmine to plant that Mark got me yesterday and a queen palm to finish potting outside my window but it's coooold out there.

Some people don't give any importance to self-worth. The kind of person who can stretch the truth, or lie, or cheat, day in and day out, knowing full well that most of the world thinks that they are scum, is the kind of person who can, without qualms, badger you into a subprime home loan that will blow up in your face, sell you an iron of a car that will blow up in your face, or run for political office and win at all costs.
