siouxcityranch - > -> Obama's 143 Days of Senate Experience
Obama's 143 Days of Senate Experience

May 5, 2008
Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.
In contrast, John McCain's 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride.

Too bad he's blowing it with his inability to remember what he's said from one moment to the next and his inability to remember what he's been told a few minutes before.

At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride.

At 71, McCain is reaching for the Depends.

Sounds like Obama's *MUCH* harder-working than Shrub.  Of course, not all of his experience is in the Senate--there's state legislature work too.  And McShrub's missed more votes this year than anyone except the guy with the aneurysm.

.

At 71, John McShrub is *WAY* past his sell-by date.  His prime was decades back.

When voting for a Presidential Candidate, we should really be looking at who the presumptive nominee would pick for their Cabinet, because those are the real policy makers.

McCain's economic adviser worked for UBS, one of the prime actors in the housing crisis.

Cheri may be fun to look at but I would not eat at her house...leftovers after 143 days...yeeech!

The guys with all the experience -- like Bush and McCain and Cheney -- are the ones who decided to start a war against someone who didn't attack us, have nearly wrecked the economy, driven up fuel prices and bankrupted the treasury.

My experience after all that is: don't vote for McCain.

I'd say experience, in this case, is overrated.

Yeah, but which Presidential candidate missed the most sessions in Senate while campaigning?  I think McCain missed like, 50 in a row.

More importantly, if we're gonna credit McCain's veteran experience, why in mid 2007 did he miss 10 of the 14 votes on Iraq, and when he did vote, it was NO to helping veterans?

Hmm so that fact Obama has only 143 days of experience..is no big deal?? Isn't that kind of extreme optimism on your part..Kewl..so if it all blows up in our face we can always blame it on that..works for me..

Bush had much less experience than Obama and you didn't seem to be concerned about that.

McCain's military achievements are questionable too. Don't get me wrong, I think he was a brave fighter, but let's review.

McCain was ranked 790th out of 795 Annapolis grads in '58.

He wrecked 5 planes, (once he ran into power lines), a total that probably would have gotten him canned, but his dad and grandpa were Admirals.

He had 23 missions, and he won 28 medals. Huh?  Mostly  for resisting the Vietnamese torture. But he himself said he didn't resist for long.

Having said that, I still feel he gave his all for the military and was a brave man, and I still thank him for his service. But how competent a military man was he? And why are there so many Viet Nam vets who don't like him?

How do you figure that TSM?

posted by NancyII on Jun 19, 2008 at 03:28 PM

We've already discussed the fact that where one places in college has little to do with life experience, work experience, social experience....Hmmmm   ..come to think of it, it only tells about school exam experience.

Well dang TSM I guess we would have been better off with Al Gore instead of Bush..how silly of me...heres another tid bit from

http://millercenter.org/aca...

"There was a speed bump on the way to Bush’s coronation in the form of one John Sidney McCain III, a Vietnam war hero and senator from Arizona who used New Hampshire’s open primary to soundly thump Bush."

Remember that Mac Wimbish, a traffic cop all his career, with NO supervisory or management experience, was elected sheriff.

posted by nooneisabovethelaw on Jun 19, 2008 at 03:57 PM

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that we would be better off by some magnitude today if Al Gore had been selected president over that moron from Texas.

I can't imagine any way possible that we'd be worse off.

LOL..and see how THAT turned out OB.

Al Gore is a crack head puppet..worthless joke of a politician and has proven it time and time again....he even got worse after he split from Willy...I wasn't defending Bush..just brought to your attention that Gore was a near miss that would have embarrassed us during 911....uh oh now I'm gonna hear the conspiracy crap..damned if ya do and damned if ya don't..

Its pointless to continue arguing..November is going to happen the way its going to happen..everybody will just have to deal with the end result..whether they like it or not...

Well Nancy, it's certainly true that you don't have to be a nuclear scientist to be elected President, and even if you are, it doesn't mean you'll do a good job. Hell, you obviously don't even have to know how to pronounce nuclear (nucular). LOL

But I do prefer a man, or woman, with intelligence. I don't think McCain is a dummy, he was able to fly after all, I just think he didn't really care about academics as much as he did his Corvette and the stripper he dated. LOL

posted by siouxcityranch on Jun 19, 2008 at 04:21 PM

heheh well ya got me there..I used to listen to Rush everyday when i worked in the patch..back then he made alot of sense..then unfortunately he viamently shook his credibility and it just wasn't fun anymore..

souxcityranch, 9-11 wouldn't have even happened if Gore were POTUS. He would have payed attention to all of the warnings.

Anti..Proof positive.  Just look at me.  No university grad..no clue where I finished in school of any kind....and I are smart enough to blog.    Or is that should be I are too smart to blog.  I get confused.  I could prolly run for president too.

PP...Balderdash.  His boss didn't.  Where was he then?

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Jun 19, 2008 at 04:34 PM

Can you elaborate? What do you mean by "his boss didn't"?

Are you saying that because the first attempt on the WTC didn't really work that we would have failed the second one?

Do you remember a PDB entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike inside the US" that said they were going to use planes as a weapon? Yeah, neither did Condi Rice. That was part of the problem. Richard Clarke was screaming his head off to get someone to pay attention, and couldn't because Bush didn't give a crap about terrorism... until that fateful day.

This is going to be hard choice in November at election time.  Who do we vote for?   Obama with only 143 days or McCain who likes his corvette and stripper -- WOW.

Boy oh Boy what a choice for us.  But whoever we vote for, it could not be any worse than what we have had for 8 years with GW, I am thinking.

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Jun 19, 2008 at 04:42 PM

It's not a hard choice for me at all. I'm going with the guy that isn't 71 years old already. The one that wants to fix things rather than keep them as they are and have been for the last 7 years.

posted by antiextremism on Jun 19, 2008 at 04:49 PM

Amen to that last line soxford.

It's like "Well, Raul Castro might not be so bad after we had Fidel". LOL

Three things the rightwingers hate to be reminded of:

In December 2000 the Gore Commission report on airports was released.  The report made recommendations on improving airport security. In January 2001, Bush shelved the report without taking any steps recommended in the report.

In February 2001 the Hart-Rudman anti-terrorism commission report was released. The report recommended taking steps to improve airport security. Instead of acting on it, Bush gave it to Cheney for "further study".  Cheney never looked at it until after 9/11.

In July 2001, Bush allowed an FAA rule giving airline pilots the right to carry guns in the cockpit to expire.

Or that the Bush Administration let a known terrorist into the country in 2005, bungled the prosecution and now is protecting the guy so he can't be deported.   In fact, stacking the Justice Department with incompetent political appointees has caused them to drop the ball on several major prosecutions--fortunately, since many of the prosecutions seemed to be political attacks themselves.  The Bush/McCain idiots can't seem to do *ANYTHING* right these days...

posted by randomfactor on Jun 20, 2008 at 07:13 AM

Ah, another Photoshop argument.  No wonder Obama's at 75 percent and rising.

.

See, what most Republican voters don't realize is that McShrub's on the World's Biggest Snipe Hunt.  They pretty much had to give him the nomination this time 'round, since he burrowed so firmly into Shrub's hindquarters these past few years, even after the racist campaign T*rdblossom ran in 2000.  So they pretended to let him play with the big guys, led him out into the thickest part of the forest, and the RNC is safely back at the log cabin drinking beer and laughing at the war hero.  Before this is over a *LOT* of folks will be laughing at him.

A sad end to his career--but as Belloq said to Indy, "You chose the wrong friends.  This time it will cost you."

Or that the Bush Administration let a known terrorist into the country in 2005

Six months after 9/11, two of the terrorists involved had their visas approved by the administration despite being on terrorist watch lists.

http://archives.cnn.com/200...

Most of the 9/11 terrorists came into the U.S. after January 2001, several despite being on terrorist watch lists.

I think you misunderstood me Sioux.

What I meant is that your opinions are your own, and you don't necessarily follow the party line.  In other words, take it as a compliment.

Are your friends still laughing at me? ;)
