This ought to quiet down a few complainers at the security checkpoints.

At this point GWB has released more people from gitmo than Obama. What's your point? In this day and age, we have to be way more concerned about homegrown terrorism than somebody in the taliban or al quaeda. Yes, your crazy liburl hatin "brother" might be the next one to snap.Maybe we ought to be more concerned with doing the right thing than taking away our civil rights to be more "safe"

Thankx souxcity, now I know how I can spend tomorrow. Blowing up watermellons. You've really done a service by showing people how easy it is to blow s#*$ up. Are you going to post chapters of the Anarchist cookbook next?

uhh there is talk O is planning on planting them on our turf or hadn't you heard..that umm really kinda makes em about as a homegrown terrorist as it gets my fella American..well in a silly sort of way..

as far as the minuscule amount of explosives it took to vaporize that watermelon?? Potential PP potential..do you understand the concept?? if that was just a watermelon blowin up?? I feel sorry for you. Course makin light of the subject or any subject that might seem scary to you seems to run in your literalistic veins so I expected no less

Anarchist cookbook? personally Billy's recipes were a bit sulphery and could crack your teeth.. I prefer Guy and Paula,,but too each his own taste...

SCR:  I'd read someplace -- or seen on TV -- that working with animals tames the mean streak in certain members of incarcerated society.

Maybe you could take a few of those unfortunate Gitmo-dwellers off the streets once they're loosed upon society, and put them to work helping out with your animals.  I'm certain the government would be happy to unload a few of them on you.  And PP.  And me.  And my next-door neighbor, etc., etc.  If they find out we have some extra room, and a sofa bed, we may be up to our eyeballs in those guys.  Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it?

You might even get a stipend from Uncle for each one -- probably $5 or $10 a month for each.  You could be rich in no time!  It would want you to take on more and more of them, wouldn't it?

I guess I could post chapters from Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals", but the Manchurian Teleprompter has them all checked out.....Or we could post chapters from William Ayers biography, especially how he planned his domestic bombings, but the Manchurian Teleprompter has them all in the Whitehouse waiting for Mr. Ayers to sign them....

And just *THINK* of the damage they could do if they got ahold of Dr. Quest's para-power raygun!  They could knock our satellites out fo the sky.

By the same people who can't read a birth certificate.

So Sioux, the fact that this stuff exists justifies, in your mind, the draconian (and by the way ineffective) airport security checkpoints and terrorist no-fly list? And the locking up of totally innocent people in our extrajudicial overseas prison system?

I think the point sioux was trying to mae is that those who live to kill Americans, many of whom are now at Gitmo, now have another effective tool with which to do so.

Still stuck on blaming Bush for all the ills of the New World Order? Of course he released more, he had eight years to do it. Another point that was obviously lost on some..Obama is CLOSING it and those there will be here. There was a reason we had such a base safely away from our shores, but that's okay, once they realize that Obama is going out of his way to play nice, I'm sure all those radicals will see the error of their ways.

Yeah, were it not for Sioux, the bad guys would never figure out how to blow things up. I wasn't aware bad guys used the Califorinian blog board to get their info on IEDs and WMD! Maybe if we just shut this board down global and domestic terrorism would cease to exist!

Well put motopoet..

If two regular guys like us can get it I don't understand why the self appointed liberal genius's on here can't..well other than just for the sake of argument and makin themselves look silly..

Moto & SCR: it is 'cause they are busy over on my blog having a hissy fit over a joke!!!!

SCR, Moto and WP:  What's more, they aren't (from the looks of the list of comments) being very nice about it, either!  Some people have no sense of humor.  Some people just have no sense at all.  Let's start at the top:  well, there's the new cabal .... oh, I meant "administration"; I could go on and on from there.

And I'm sure some of the detractors on this thread and on WP's thread would be OVERJOYED to have the lifelong care and feeding of a terrorist.  Except they might be stupid enough to bite the hands that feed them.  And I hear those rabies shots are the dickens.

moto: "I think the point sioux was trying to mae is that those who live to kill Americans, many of whom are now at Gitmo, now have another effective tool with which to do so."

These things have existed for decades. As have nuclear weapons, and even airplanes. Does those justify Gitmo?

"Still stuck on blaming Bush for all the ills of the New World Order? Of course he released more, he had eight years to do it. Another point that was obviously lost on some..Obama is CLOSING it and those there will be here. What does that mean, "those there will be here"? We have prisons that hold the worse of our society. We have child rapists, serial killers, mass murderers of every stripe and means. Yet somehow we can't possibly handle them on US soil?

Do you know the reason we held them at Gitmo? It wasn't because they were so dangerous. It was because the Bush Administration needed some place they could hold people outside the US justice system. Outside our laws. Outside our checks and balances. It had absolutely nothing to do with "safety". We could have held them on Alcatraz if that was our goal.

If you think Obama is "play(ing) nice" so that radicals will do the same, you haven't given this any thought. Obama is acting within the law because LAWS MATTER. They matter to us, and they matter to the international community. We have the Geneva Convention to make sure the civil societies play by some rules, not to make sure everybody plays by them. Obama doesn't think the Taliban will start using the Geneva Convention, but he wants to make sure that those who don't "play by the rules" can be held accountable. This not only includes al-Queda, but our own President as well. War crimes aren't anything to be laughed at, as our newly ex-President is finding out. If we can't find bin Laden responsible under laws, we can't find anybody responsible under laws. Bin Laden deserves a trial, just like you would deserve a trial if ever accused of a crime.

Worried about evil terrorists? Afraid of radical totalitarian governments?  Can’t sleep at night?  What to do???

The answer is simple. Just set up sweat shop factories in all the Mid East countries, and buy all their crap at Walmart!

In no time, you'll forget all about evil world wide conspiracies from people who hate our freedoms, and you’ll have plenty of plastic crap and over priced sports shoes.

Pure bliss, and no unneeded military or security expenses!

Guaranteed to work every time.     Just ask Red China!

Matt, other than Japanese internment camps, when was the last time we held "detainees" on US soil?

You make it sound like Bush did it deliberately to be sneaky.  What about the other presidents?

posted by donmason on Mar 30, 2009 at 11:10 AM

Hi Nancy,

The Espionage Act of 1917, signed by Woodrow Wilson resulted in hundreds political detainees to be held in American Prisons on US soil.

Most weren't guilty of any real crime.
