This is not only sad its unforgiveable.
This is the "TEAR DROP" made and installed by the Russians to honor those who died in 9 11 and a statement against terrorism. It is very impressive. The tear drop is lined up with the Statue of Liberty.
Names of the persons killed on 9 11 are inscribed on the base. The base like the Vietnam Memorial wall. It is down in the shipping yards across from "The Lady". I checked this out..... its true and what a gorgeous monument it is. WHY wasn't this blasted all over the news when it was dedicated ???? Gawd, what is this country coming to ?? http://www.snopes.com/rumor... ISN'T IT WONDERFUL TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHERE THE MEDIA CONTROLS WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW?

The Russians donated a statue at the UN. It portrays a nude male figue holding a sword pointed to the ground with one hand and hitting the hilt with a hammer. The symbolism is taken from the Bible, beating swords into plowshares. This when Russia was communist and "athiest." The teardrop memorial shows sensitivity and sympathy. But it isn't a sex scandal or bizarre dysfunction of an octo-mom or drug addicted celeb so, naturally our news sources are going to ignore it. The sad commentary of our news media ignoring this gesture is that it hinders the understanding that we have more in common with other countries than differences. posted by

Apparently the city was not too keen on having this gift at one point~ bet they are glad they allowed it now! It is a striking vision from a gifted artist. posted by

SCR: From what I could make out, it was given by the sculptor in June 2004. Why has it taken this long for us to learn of it? Because somebody doesn't want to make any sudden moves? (After all, it's only been about five years now.) How did you learn of it? And why the resistance by some? I don't understand it. posted by

Dedicated September 2006, I think. As to why it wasn't better covered, our press corps generally stinks. That's largely how we got 9/11 in the first place. posted by

So now the press corp is responsible for 911? Or is 911 responsible for our press corp? The things you learn on Jeopardy. The other night a clue was what piece of construction was to be sent by one country to some other country and ended up here? What's the question? posted by

So now the press corp is responsible for 911? Partially responsible. It's hard to say whether President Gore would've stopped it or not, but he'd damned sure not have ignored the warning. posted by

It's hard to say whether President Gore would've stopped it or not, but he'd damned sure not have ignored the warning. You mean like the warning he ignored as Vice President about the plot to bomb airliners over the Pacific?? Gore was too busy running cover for the First Fellon, and building a 35,000 sq ft mansion to give a crap about america... posted by

Laura, did you see the show too? Funny..I got it right but only because of the hint about the lady. I couldn't believe the one guy missed it. I love that show. Some of the kids say I should go on it and I just laugh..are you KIDDING? I ace some categories and have no clue on others. Besides, my trivia memory is like a lamp with a short in it. on and off and sputtery. It does help with crossword puzzles though. Speaking of which, TBC changed the one in the classified. I'm ready to give them up and go to another Sunday paper. Sorry for the hi-jacking of the blog.
