That was featured on Extreme Home Makeover way back in their first season or two. Any fish keeper knows it's a bad idea, but like Nemo and 101 Dalamations, some people see these things on TV and *must* have them, bad idea or not. Then the fad fades and you have ads like this. posted by

I'd recommend cheap fish, because they aren't going to survive long in such an environment. 2.2 gallons is barely enough for a single betta. You put in as many fish as they show on the webpage in and you're going to be using the toilet as a fishy funeral parlor before long. This product is part of a line of "fish as art" gimmicks, like the fish picture frame, that valued the art over the life of the fish, as evidenced by the tiny amount of water provided to the poor finned occupants. posted by

shwaine had you taken the time to read the link on them you would have realized that there are two tanks working..the one with the fish is completly seperate.. it also supports salt water which requires a much more stable environment... its painfully obvious they couldnt exist in a regular toilet situation..every time it was flushed it would drain the tank...come on think before you speak..do you always have to argue about everything..2 gallons is plenty of water you just have to change it more often..as for fish a couple of skeeter fish or feeder gold fish would thrive..even a beta would work just fine..or another single fish that didnt grow rapidly..if salt water the tiny blue cleaner fish would do just fine..they are very hearty.. wait i got it..your shy..you just dont wanna show your bum to the little fishy's
These acrylic tanks are fully functional, impact resistant and stronger than porcelain toilet tanks. They are completely separate from the toilet tank and are designed to fit directly against the companion tank reservoir. posted by

I have wanted one forever, I would put a reptile or tarantula in it instead, need something scary crawling up the back when you are in a most vulnerable position. posted by

I did read the link SCR, that's how I know the fish part of the tank is only 2.2 gallons. I never even said anything that implied I thought the fish were living in the toilet part of the tank. What I said is the fish would soon be moving to the flusher part of the system because 2.2g is not enough water to sustain a fish for very long. That's not even enough for a single goldfish, much less the half dozen or so goldfish that the pictures on the website show. If you stuffed that many fish in this thing, they're going to be dead before long. I'm sure as a dog lover that you don't like it when people keep dogs in inappropriate conditions and the dog dies young because of it. I don't like it when people rush out to buy a gimmick like this because they saw it on a TV show and the fish dies because it wasn't kept properly. Putting a fish in a 2g tank is the same as crating a dog for its lifetime. It's just not appropriate living conditions. Furred or finned, if you get a pet you should get it to be a pet, not a gimmick. But I'm sure you'll disagree with me just because I'm the one that said it. posted by

And now you're taking to deleting my comments. Apparently pointing out that I am practical in nature and taking that as negative is more SCR's issue than mine is now a delete-able offense. I'll keep this in mind next time SCR complains about someone else deleting comments. posted by

All I know is I had a pond with five goldfish in it~ they felt fruitful and multiplied~ and also grew into fish the size of apples. They swam in a 5' by 5' environment and I felt bad about the lack of room. I was amazed at the price of that thing~ people will do anything won't they? As a lighthearted poke at both silly purchases and Bargain Betty this did get a chuckle out of me. Thanks to both SCR and Shwaine for making me laugh and making me think. The penultimate goal of all good comedy. We should try to be kind to each other.

My daughter kept 2 goldfish in a bowl in the bathroom and they lived for 2 years in there, till the cat finally figured out how to get them. They always looked pretty happy. They even seemed to know when we came in the room. Goldfish stay the size of their environment, they stay small in a smaller bowl and grow if in a larger bowl. I think this is pretty cool actually. It would be difficult to keep clean though. Life is way too short to get upset about this sort of thing. We consider ourselves animal friendly. My daughter wants to be an organic chicken farmer because she hates the way chickens are caged/housed at factory egg/meat chicken farms. We raise both egg chickens and meat chickens and it can be done humanely.
