Chaz Bono: I love being a man

(People.com) -- Now that he's finally in the body he always felt he belonged in, Chaz Bono said he's enjoying something that took decades to accomplish.

"It's a long process going back almost a decade," Bono, formerly known as Chastity, told, Entertainment Tonight in an interview airing Thursday and Friday. "I got clean and sober in 2004 and I couldn't have done this before that."

Born the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz, 40, has been undergoing a female-to-male sex change since March, a process that has already had significant physical changes on his body.

"It lowered my voice," he said. "Fat redistributes, muscle growth, hair growth, sex drive increases."

One thing that didn't need changing: His mental and emotional concept of himself as fundamentally male.

People.com: Cher 'will support' Chaz's sex change

"I always felt like the male from the time I was a child," he said. "There wasn't much feminine about me."

"I believe that gender is something between your ears, not between your legs. That is something I discovered in the early '90s. It was just a long process of being comfortable enough to do something about it."

It was turning the milestone age of 40 that spurred him to action.

"I was turning 40 and I thought it's now or never. I want to still feel vibrant and be able to enjoy my life in a male body and not wait until I am an old man."

I think Cher had a fling

Chastity Bono illustrates the Biblical truth that "the sins of the parents are visited on the children.": http://www.speroforum.com/a...

Couldn't have said it better myself. Hollywood-hooked Cher indeed took the wrong path in rectifying things, just like Wacko Jacko.

~~ I am pretty understanding & non-judgmental of all human rights and desires,   BUT ~ although i personally have NO problem with any one doing anything they personally desire... this is weird to me. period.

i am not as freaked out about a woman trying to become a 'dude' ... as i am with a 'dude' chopping-off his family jewels to be a chick, that is TOTALLY weird to me.  a physical decision i can not understand, but TOTALLY empathize with...i cant imagine the emotional pain  a human must be feeling to make these decisions.

i DO believe that the 'person' is IN the mind, and NOT in the bumping-uglies( 'body-parts' )... THAT does makes perfect sense.

apparently he/she isnt very well liked..there was a blog going under this article and a person who knows "chaz" stated

RaptorMech   I know this male to female transgendered person and she is extremely rude. When I was in high school she would always back talk to the teachers and security staff. That's the only transgendered encounter I have had. I want a more friendlier one.   7 hours ago | Reply | Like | Report abuse

JB He's happy. Good for him.

come on..thats a mug only a mother could love...gotta be miserable in life with or without extra skin..kinda looks like an old frienmd of mine thats been a loner all his life....course money might help..but a rude person will always be a rude person..genetic makeup (hormones) and bad child rearing with a lack of manners training can create that.. 10 years from now i bet the jaded he/she will want to go back to being a woman..too little too late

Sioux, unless I read it wrong, I don't think that blogger was talking about Chaz being rude.  It looks like this person is saying they knew a male to female transgender who was rude.

I know this male to female transgendered person and she is extremely rude

it read like I know this transgender person..they people were talking about chaz in the blog

But the gender is backwards, Chaz was female to male.  It just sounds like the person is talking about a different transgender.  Not that it matters..lol.

I say, I'm not pretty and I don't have money and I get hot women.  But I do have a big dong and a good sense of humor.

"I believe that gender is something between your ears, not between your legs."

If he/she believes what she/he is saying, why have the operation and all the other stuff done to his/herself?  I'll bet he/she is planning on going into movies, the porn kind, and had momma Cher buy him a big ol' Louisville slugger looking yanker.

His first big film will be something playing on the title "I got you babe".

This is just another bid for attention.  My goodness, having Cher for a mom could not have been easy.  Then again, this is Hollywood and these people are STRANGE!

Being transgender is a very difficult life.  When you're growing up and you always feel different.  People call you "gay" because they don't know any better.  Sometimes you don't know any better either, and go throguh a period of believing you ARE gay.  As time goes by, and especially now that we CAN talk about these things, you realize that the problem is that your psyche is just in the wrong body, that the parts you were born with don't fit the emotions you have.   It must be a nightmare at times, and with people like many of the bloggers here treating you like sh*t, it's no wonder.

Truly, what do you care what Chaz does with his body?  Celebrity must make this much worse, being on every channel as some kind of freak.  He didn't ASk for this set of parents; he didn't ask for this condition.  It just is.

There are hundreds of Transgender people in Bakersfield, and some have the resources to make the physical changes they need, and some do not.   To those that do, I say, congratulations.  And for now, for those that don't, I just hope we as a society will get off our judgmental high horse and give you a break.

Anyone seeking info about the local TG community, whether FtM or MtF, give me a shout at wlwedd@aol.com.  I can give you information.
