Reader: You reported a monument honoring Earl Warren is planned to be erected on the Bakersfield High School campus.

Through lack of research, misinformation or just plain ignorance, you reported Earl Warren graduated from Kern County High School. The name is incomplete. Earl Warren graduated from Kern County Union High School (KCUHS).

Reader: I read your recent article on the passing of Capt. Walter Schirra. I was disappointed the article didn't mention his Kern County connection. He was a test pilot in the Sidewinder Missile system program at China Lake during the 1950s.
The Ridgecrest Daily Independent reported he was the first China Lake pilot to fire an "all up" Sidewinder and the first with a contact hit of an aircraft with that missile. I believe that's meaningful, as one reflects on his contributions.

Reader: I just love how you forever tarnished those images of that fist pumping in the air, that helmet being raised, the pointing to his mount. Yes, those images from last Saturday's running of the Kentucky Derby, Street Sense and his jockey, Calvin Borel, with his sweet smile, by putting O.J. Simpson's picture in the same article.
