Have you been on a federal jury in Fresno?
Hi everyone. I'm looking for people who have served on a federal jury in Fresno. I'd like to do a feature story about the experience. I don't care about the case you served on; only what it was like to drive up to Fresno or stay there, and what it was like to be on jury duty for a month. How did it compare with local jury service. Please e-mail me at sswenson@bakersfield.com or call at 395-7367.

I have been called twice for this. Once about ten years ago and once this year. The first time I had to drive my clunker of a car up there, regardless of the reliablitly of my transportation, only to sit there for half a day and then told I was excused. At the time it was irritatiing, because I was young, and didn't have the gas money to drive up there. Even though they paid me well for it about 6 weeks later. The over all experience was ok though. This year, I begged and pleaded to not go, because my job doesn't allow for days off like that. And they worked with me, putting my on as an emergency only juror. I didn't have to go, but I had to call in every week. I've always wondered why they don't pull government employees or retired citizens more for this, simply becuase as you said, it is usually a lengthy trial. But then you are not getting a true jury of your peers. Even though I don't know any drug smugglers (the case I got called for ten years ago)

I've never been called. In fact, I haven't been called for regular jury in years. I think my reputation precedes me. :-) Maybe they've seen my picture here.
