Link Alert!
Have you been scratching your head trying to comprehend what in the world is going on in this country, look no further. I kept seeing more and more internet chatter about Ron Paul, Republican candidate for President and finally took the time to listen to his famous "We've Been Neoconned" address. It's lengthy, sobering and to me, is like someone slapping Americans in the face and yelling, "Wake up, Wake up!" Here is a link to the video of that now banned by the mainstream media, especially Fox News and feared by the Neocon community. Here is a link to the transcript. Here is a link to Congressman Ron Paul Archives of other speeches.

Another interesting guy is Bob Barr, a former Congressman from Georgia: On one hand, a first-class bigot. On the other, a man who has retained a mostly limited-government vision of conservatism and still respects the basic provisions of the Constitution, if not its finer nuances. But it looks like Barr might have trusted, a bit too blindly, people labeled "conservative." The behavior of John Ashcroft took him by surprise: http://www.reason.com/news/... Reason: In Creative Loafing, you complained that "the attorney general spends his time and prestige traveling the heartland to sow fear and to endeavor to limit public discourse over the most basic of our freedoms." When the Senate confirmed Ashcroft, did you ever expect to be describing him like that? Bob Barr: No. This has been something that I never would have anticipated two and a half years ago. Oops. I knew what John Ashcroft would be from Day One -- a poster child for government out of control. Ashcroft, Gonzales, Dan Lungren, Jagels -- all rampaging marauders cut from the same cutthroat cloth. "Conservative" no longer means limited government. It now means government that expands to occupy every available void.

Very good history lesson here. I'm showing this to some friends. Explains why I have a hard time saying I'm still a republican [actually more a right-libertarian probably]. Thanks sumo. posted by

Ron Paul is, and has always been, awesome. 1994, that dark year of hate, was the beginning of the end. That was the year that the big-government, unlimited-government Republicans first gained enough power to be dangerous. And my every prediction about them has come true.
