How much cleavage is okay at work?
The other day while I was at home sick, the Today Show had a segment on how much cleavage is okay at work.
The prevailing opinion was none, although some thought just a little shouldn't interfere too much. The idea is co-workers should be looking at women in the eye, not in the chest. Men and other women notice such curves and either are distracted or judgmental, the tv talkers said. I am aware of one woman in a mostly woman workplace who was proud of what she paid for and liked to show them off. Her bosses did not agree. Is it a freedom restriction to cover up women at work? Or is is good sense? Or does it depend on whether you work at the Deja Vu or a business office? Posted by Steve E. Swenson 26 comments from 19 users

I don't have a problem with the way most women dress at work. I will say it is harder to concentrate on work when someones cleavage is in your face. I am not saying this is a good idea but since we are on the topic of cleavage, would women think it was appropriate for male coworkers to be partially exposed in the groin region? I could see it now...the new spring fashion for males at the workplace, men walking around the office with 1 walnut hanging out. I know this is a bit extreme, and I know NOBODY wants to see this but it is kind of the same thing. Finally, if you are going to dress in a way that puts yourself out there don't get mad when you get a couple of looks and I don't mean in your eyes. posted by

Where I work, the women's cleavage isn't always on the chest.

"The idea is co-workers should be looking at women in the eye, not in the chest." Therein lies the rub. Just how likely is it that that is going to be the case? There is an establishment for a woman who wants to show off what she's paid for -- or hey, even if they're real and she wants to show them off. It's called HOOTERS.

There was a good-looking woman at an office where I worked that took another job. Around eight of the guys took her out for the farewell luncheon. I've never seen such a sad group of guys when we were headed back to our cars, heads hung low in silence. She came back a few months later. All was happiness again. Cleavage just makes for a better work environment. I say the more the better. posted by

It all depends on the quality that makes up the cleavage. How many times have you seen a woman who's spilling out of her blouse all over hell's half acre, but the spillage is kind of here, there, and everywhere? Cleavage is like anything; nice cleavage is nice, but lousy cleavage? Beat it, sister. posted by

Men, I have a question for you: Which draws more attention, the cleavage or just big ol' boobies? I'm totally serious. I have been "blessed" with huge knockers and since I am so short they seem to draw a lot of attention since they take up such a huge portion of my front view. I never have them hanging out showing buttcrack cleavage and I dress rather modestly. But it seems they draw more attention than I want or need. posted by

Which draws more attention, the cleavage or just big ol' boobies? The knockers do. Cleavage can be fraudulently enhanced by a wonderbra (you can tell when everything is up top and there's nothing below), but those biggies are lotsa fun. posted by

If you're distracted, then there's too much cleavage.

If you're distracted, you're too distractable. Of course, it helps if you set your sights lower, as I do... . Spam code BZKRS. I know it doesn't spell anything, but it seems strangely appropriate. posted by
