Oil wells at Lake Ming?
Reporter James Burger has detailed a proposal to drill exploratory wells at Lake Ming.

If they are successful, up to 30 wells could be located as close as 300 feet from the lake's shoreline.

I know we're used to oil wells all over the city, but I'm willing to buy a little more oil from the Middle East than to mess up one of the prettier places around.

What do you think?

these pathetic oil companies should only be allowed to deface new areas, if they can clean up all existing areas they have ruined already.

the sheer ineptitude of our local government in reigning in the flagarant ways these oil companies have decimated this town's appearance is shocking.  rusted pumps and containers, barren trash laden land etc has earned us the moniker "Armpit of California".

this idiotic local government needs to wake up!

Oil wells in Bakersfield are like Skyscrapers in New York, they just belong. I don't like the old sump pits and garbage dumps, but the wells themselves are part of the local scenery. Maybe they'll generate additional revenue for the County to use.

ILake Ming is a perfect place for oil wells, now they only drilled in Seven Oakies, it would the optimum. They could watch their investments grow up close and personal.

There are already many oilwells in the Southwest; many near 7 Oaks.   Sorry to take away the class-envy strategory.

Yeah but not enough, maybe one in the club house would add class, you need it. Envy, get a life I just live and let live, if ostentatious is you gig, don't be so sensitive, it just makes you look stupid, wait nah,  what is the sense.

this country runs on oil so we had better find some more until an alternative source comes along. till then thanks to all the companies like longbow llc who are willing to put up the money to try to find more oil.

I think it's easy to sit back and complain. If you have better ideas on how to approach the issue, do share. The sarcasm, the grammatical errors, etc., just aren't efficient.

I wasn't being sarcastic when I said that I'd like to have my own Grasshopper in the yard.

I don't  know what the fuss is about oil at lake ming is. Do we want to drive to work or ride a horse. Duh!!!!! it's not that complicated is it?

They aren't talking about drilling straight down into the lake or putting pumping units IN the lake.  If memory serves thay call it whipstocking where they drill in another location..at an angle, into the oil pool.   No one should be surprised that there's oil under the lake, it's right out there not far from where oil was discovered in the first place.  The area off China Grade Loop and Round Mountain Road used to be known as Kern Front and there are a gazillion oil wells all over the place.

The ones who will really scream are the ones who bought those expensive homes out there.  It should also make interesting viewing for the houses that will be built on the old Rio Bravo Tennis Club site.
