Should a school require rolling backpacks?
St. Francis school, a private campus, has required students to use rolling backpacks for several years now. The change came after the principal tried to lift a student's backpack one day and was shocked to feel how heavy it was. for the sake of the kids' backs, she made the change.
What do you think? Should a school be making that kind of decision for parents? This is a private school, so you figured parents could take their children elsewhere. Should we require the same for public schools? --Davin McHenry, Web editor 8 comments from 6 users

All schools that require students to take home books should require rolling backpacks. I have tried for several years to talk my daughter (now in 6th) and my friends daughter (now in 10th) to use rolling packs. They say "its not cool". So if the schools require it, the students have no choice. The packs are heavy even with just a few books, there have been aritcles stating how bad this is for our students backs!

WTF, this is freaking ridiculous what a bunch of losers, are you kidding me. I carried books home in a backpack every day from school (elementary thru college) and it never killed or injured me. Who come up with this crap, someone give these idiots something to do so they wont keep coming up with stupid ideas. We are creating a society of weaklings who can't do homework because that's just to much after being in school all day and now can't carry backpacks because they are to heavy for our fat out-of-shape video game playing little bastards (your kids not mine). What's next, you mind numb idiots, school that last two hours because the kids can't stay focused? Please stop with the destruction or our children with these ideas designed to make them dependent useless wimpy mindless adults. And for those of you who cant carry a book bag with even a few books in it, please stop breeding your clouding the gene pool.
P.S. Put down the Twinkie and take a walk.

You obviously don't have kids in school right now. The kids are having to carry every book for every class with them because there are no lockers to put them in. Even in high school. My oldest (not fat, 6'2", 185 lbs) went through 3 back packs (Jansport) last year because the straps kept breaking because of the weight. My middle school kid was the same way. HIs doctor suggested a rolling back pack because carrying around all that weight had the same effect as being overweight on his joints. If they only had to carry the books that they had homework in (like I did when I was in school) that would be ok, but they don't, and these aren't small books.
For you to call parents losers and our kids fat makes you stupid because we are neither. Instead of requiring rolling back packs, I say we require our schools to provide lockers. Steph posted by

Man up, I carried all my book when I was in High school and College ( I guess they just made us stronger then) so stop making excuses. I agree that kids should have lockers, however, with the lack of parenting that take place these days and with the stupid children they are raising bringing guns and drugs to school, lockers seem to be a safe NO bet. Until these idiot liberals get out of the way of discipline and education of our children and we rid the schools of illegals and trouble makers, your lockers are a fat NO. But as for the backpack stop crying and adapt you freaking babies. I see children of all ages even High school kids walking home every day and none of them are crawling on their hand and knees from the Massive book weight. As a matter of fact most of them are carrying very few books and seem to be able to handle them just fine, and yes the children in my area go to school to learn not just for a free meal or so their parents can watch Jerry Springer without interruption. So if you would like to buy a rolling luggage rack or better yet a red wagon for you children please do so, just don't get upset when your kids come home crying because mommy made them little pansies. You just keep pampering your kids, thats just one less family my children will have to compete with. Call me stupid thats fine but WE will continue to roll right over you and families like yours in the real world because I am not wasting my time nor my children's crying about something as stupid as backpacks being to heavy. Please stop breeding your clouding the gene pool.
After thought: Steph, I think I have a secretary name steph, maybe I'll fire her so she can stay home with her strong thin children. ![]()

Kids have always been as responsible as you let them, I went to school in a rural farm community for a few years, and kids brought ad teachers guns to school all the time, but they were better than todays kids. Today these same parents don't want kids to even be trusted with lockers and if they had their way would put big cartwheels on backpacks.

Hey better than me,
Crippled from carrying a heavy backpack, what an idiot show me one true case of that you wimp. Your daughter will grow up crippled, maybe not physically but that still leaves mentally. And don't com back with how smart your daughter is I don't care because everybody's kid is smart to them, oh and nice looking too. Thanks for helping make American a weaker society. posted by
