Court rules in favor of Second Amendment gun right
The Supreme Court has just ruled that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history. The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." So that's why we own guns. Now I get it. In case we have to rise up as one. Are we living in Zimbabwe? — Andrew Mockett 29 comments from 20 users

I like the idea. As a young woman home alone at night with neighbors down the street who break into everyones house and steal stuff I feel much more comfortable knowing I can have protection. And if you don't want to get shot... don't be breaking into other peoples homes!!! posted by

The court got it right on this one as anyone realizes who knows the actual intent of the Founding Fathers on the issue; and it was far from being an attempt to disarm law abiding Americans in favor of politicians. Ever! posted by

I've never owned a gun, but I know several people in SoCal who are responsible gun owners (and very good shots). posted by

Mockett: "So that's why we own guns. Now I get it. In case we have to rise up as one. Are we living in Zimbabwe?" The government has machine guns, F-16s, and napalm. What chance do you think you have with your handgun? What chances did David Koresh have? If the government comes after you, you need to go quietly and fight it in court. Assuming SCOTUS continues to protect habeas corpus........ posted by

It's a sad statement that a right so specifically spelled out in the Constitution has to be "ok'd" by the Supremes. It's sadder, still, that four of our Supremes wanted to gouge it out. posted by

Those people are getting guns outside the law. This right is for law abiding citizens. That's something anyone against second amendment rights ALWAYS overlooks. posted by

Those not abiding the law are going to get guns citizens or not one way or another. This is for the rest of us who obey the laws and need to protect ourselves from the rest. posted by

On the topic of self defense I believe it’s safe to say the only people who are afraid of or advocate against the Second Amendment are the ones who want to die. posted by

If any of the anti-gun crowd on here want to honestly learn the safety & use of a firearm let me know, I'd be more than willing to take you out to a shooting range, teach the safety aspect of shooting, how to shoot & let you shoot so you can see why so many of us like to shoot/hunt etc. There is great satisfaction in having the know-how & the ability to shoot a firearm either at targets and/or hunting. Give it an honest try & see if you like it or not, no politics involved, the only thing I demand is if you do take me up on this you must be safe & follow the rules of safe gun handling. posted by

I had a family member who`s sister`s next door neighbor `s dad heard a friend tell his son`s girlfriend`s grandson that the dad of his neighbor who had a gun for over 40yrs and worked in the gun business for 20yrs said that he had never fired it, but he worked for the county once and had a daughter who posted on the blog because she was a world traveler and her mom had a medication problem due to her pre Alzheimer condition, posted by

i think that was directed at me, Nancy? If it was, how is it cruel or unusual punishment to execute a pervert that gets his jollies by molesting/ raping children? In more ways than one, that person has "killed" that child's soul, childhood, happiness, etc...How cruel or unusual is that?? ***I 4 N I*** BTW, I know this is more on subject, so HOORAY!! I believe every law abiding, tax paying American (citizen or not) should have the right to own as many guns as she/he wants, as long as all rules/laws are followed posted by

egalindo. It wasn't necessarily directed at you..it was just a comment to those who question what punishment is legal. Somewhere it says that the punishment can't be greater than the crime. For instance if it's not murder they can't be put to death for the crime. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to harming a child no punishment is too great or too harsh in my mind regardless of what the constitution says.
