Will saggy pants law make it to Bakersfield?

Be careful if you have saggy pants in the south Chicago suburb of Lynwood. Village leaders have passed an ordinance that would levy $25 fines against anyone showing three inches or more of their underwear in public.

Is a similar ordinance needed in Bakersfield? Could Valley Plaze store owners argue that the fashion trend affects business? Do you agree with the ACLU, which believes the law targets young men of color?

Another stupid law to take more money from people. HA HA they should make a law that fines stupid yuppies when they wear  pink golf shirts.

I tell you what, Chicken Little; The next time you see a "Yuppie" (the term is hilariously outdated) wearing a pink golf shirt, go up and tell him that he can't wear it. See how long you're on your feet.

posted by dgrealish on Jul 21, 2008 at 10:57 AM

Who will enforce this law?  The Fashion Police?  Although I'm tired of seeing butts over the top of waist bands rather than under them where they belong, I think law enforcement has better things to do with their time.

Easier to catch the punks that wear their pants this way. They can't possibly run dressed like that!

Also, $25.00 ?? Where in the world would these losers get $25.00? Steal it? Not pay it?

I laugh at those (Outdated Term) 'yuppies' everyday. Yeah they really knocked me off my feet. Sure.......

Did I offend you? Do you wear pink shirts tough guy?

posted by OldBlue56 on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Those 2 losers in the picture are sure stupid. They both have their backs turned, so that any rival gang member could walk right up to them and pop a cap in their backs. One of them should be acting as a lookout. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

How do you know those guys are gang members? Are saggy pants synonymous to gang members?

It looks like their trying to pee in the radiator.

Sad.  Those men look completely ridiculous and don't even realize it.  These "anything for fashion" trend-follower men are the same types that wore MC Hammer's parachute pants in the 80s.  Try finding someone willing to admit THAT nowadays.

As for me, I only get plummer's crack by accident.

When someone tried to submit this law in Florida, a savvy legislator added (and later removed) an amendment creating an exception for those studying or practicing plumbing or refrigeration repair...

A pull-up-law.....hahaha! OK most of the idiots that wear there pants to their ankles wont care anyway. And I dont think any man wearing a pink shirt could knock someone on their rear.......hahaha!
posted by dgrealish on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:16 AM

The guy on the left has his pants half way down and his shirt half way up.  By my estimation, he's only half dressed.  They sell these dolls that teach small children how to properly dress themselves.  Perhaps that's the solution.

I have laughed more at the comments on this blog then any other Keep-em coming ROTFLMAO!!! JBS: Do you wear a pink golf shirt???? LOL...JK!
posted by Infowar on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:21 AM

Many teen aged girls dress like sluts.....I don't see them or their parents being fined. I mean who's to decide what is offensive? Just because I think "yuppies" sporting pink golf shirts looks stupid, I don't think they should be fined. Live & let live. Their are more important things to worry about. Stuff like how our dollar is being devalued.

posted by foodjunkie on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:22 AM

i dont like the saggy pant look but its their right to wear them like that. What about "girls" at the mall wearing skirts that are about 5 inches long ?? where do you draw the line ...

posted by dgrealish on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:22 AM

I have no problem with guys wearing pink golf shirts.............as long as their beer belly isn't hanging out the bottom.

posted by Infowar on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:24 AM

DGrealish......they also sell slutty Bratz dolls. Why don't parents just teach their kids how to dress tastefully? Hmmmmm Maybe because most parents these days are degenerates themselves?

Hmmmmm Maybe because most parents these days are degenerates themselves?

Painting parents with such broad strokes sure isn't the solution.  Do you know most of the parents these days?   The ones I know are very responsible people who make their decisions based on what's best for their children.

There is a trend to wear saggy pants and short skirts and shorts.  When I was in school, they were called mini skirts and hot pants.  But the boys wore tight jeans and short shorts as well.  (check out old basketball footage)  Trends come and go.

posted by Infowar on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Most parents are not degenerates? Take a closer look at the current state of society. It's not that hard to figure out. The decline in morality & family values is taking place by design.

posted by EllisBell on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:47 AM

Are YOU a degenerate, Maggie?

posted by dgrealish on Jul 21, 2008 at 11:53 AM

People who make this type of statement always fail to take into consideration the number of kids graduating from college, stepping up and doing extraordinary things and those who are just plain well mannered and considerate.   They are not raising themselves.

The bartz dolls really tick me off! Hate them. Remember the commercial for the doll? A girl who couldn't have been more than 10 or 11, getting dressed  in a tight tee, micro mini skirt, and hooker boots above her knees with bright red lipstick on. It ends with her opening the door to a boy.

YEAH! Thats the kind of doll I want my girl to be like! oh man I HATE BRATZ.!!!

As far as pink shirts on men..SO WHAT! they are cool. I don't mind them at all.

My guy golfs at least 2 times a week in the spring and summer here. He personally would never wear a pink shirt but I think they are fine.

Most parents really DON'T care how their kids dress. That was completely evident at the concert this weekend. Very young girls WITH THEIR PARENTS right beside them, were dressed as sluts.

It was disgusting.

I know plenty of college grads who are complete degenerates. Millionaires are also capable of being degenerates too. Just because people have a certain social status, that doesn't immunize them from the degenerate bug.

Well, I'm one of those horrible moms who would not let my daughter have a barbie doll ! To me, that is not a doll - I bought her a very large "baby doll" and I made matching clothes for the doll & my daughter. Doll had a stroller too for when we went for walks or to the park.

As to the saggy pants/ 5" skirts! The schools, including the colleges, need to re-implement the dress code for faculty as well as students.  Many schools are going to uniforms and/or a dress code.  What you do off campus is your business but while on school property you will dress the way we have indicated! End of argument - except then you get the idiot parents who scream about their kids' rights.  As far as I'm concerned - and it was the rule in our house - as long as you live under my roof, eat my food, and generally reside here, until you are 18..................you have no rights except those I wish to give you!!!  Sound harsh? tuff. That also went for the use of make-up. Want to pile it on and look like a tramp? Fine...............go stand on a corner on union ave. We had no problems with our daughter as we found kids want and need to know the boundaries.  They get into trouble when there is no line in the sand - so to speak.

Actually, I was talking about the parents, but then you knew that.  My neighbor of 21 years has put one child through college and has three in college right now.

When you say most parents are degenerates, what is the percentage you're talking about?  It has to be more than 50%, otherwise it would be half the parents are degenerates.  I wonder where you're getting your statistics.  Although I do have a good idea.

posted by witterpitters on Jul 21, 2008 at 01:00 PM

Well Timec, at least you all can straighten your hair!!!! What do we do about the saggy pants?  I don't think there needs to be a law or a fine, just enough people telling them how ridiculous they look!  Camera phone works well!!!  AND, it is not just the black kids, it is all kids of all races and hair type! Even some of the girls!!  Ya honey I wanted to see the top string of your dental floss underwear!!!!

I never had a problem with Barbie. I bought my daughter a giant lot of Barbies, like 25 or so, with clothes, shoes and tons of accessories! the whole caboodle for $10.00 at a yard sale last summer. She doesn't play with them at all lol! She really isn't into dolls. She likes racket ball, golf, dancing  and singing.

Bratz dolls are way over the top compared to Barbie.

Sure you do - from three blocks away. You lack the competency to even be a mediocre liar.

Did I offend you? Do you wear pink shirts tough guy?

Black and dark green are my favorite colors.

Most parents are not degenerates? Take a closer look at the current state of society.

Your parents obviously were; look at the drooling lop their union produced.

JBS: Do you wear a pink golf shirt????

No. Red haired, fair-skinned people don't look good in pink. Light green, either.

Every time I see one of these Figs in the store or down the sidewalk with his pants at half mast, I can't hold back on the comment,, hey. having problems with your pants?, won't your mommy buy you pants that will stay up, pull your pants up, you look like a damn Fag,  pull you damn pants up you dumb ass,  hey cutey, looking for a man?

My Wife always gets mad at me for saying these things, she says one day you're going to find one that's going to turn around and hit you, My answer is that I can only hope so, then I can pull those pants up around his neck and tighten em the way they're suppose to. ;=)))

LMAO @ Murphy......Loved 'hey cutey, lookin for a man?' My color of Tees is black....pink is just to girly. And I also HATE the bratzs dolls. Barbie dolls are ok though I used to play with them when I was young. My kids ONCE said "WOW, mom how did you keep the dinosours from stepping on them"!...Haha Real funny.

When I was 31, I was dating a woman 12 years older than I was. I know quite a bit about the Civil War, and one day her 11-year-old son asked me a question about it. My reply was, "Ask your mom; she was there."

She clobbered me with a throw pillow.

Lana, do you remember when Calvin ("Calvin and Hobbes") kidnapped that little girl's "Binky Betsy" doll? He tied Binky Betsy to a chair, put tape over her mouth, took a photo and sent it to the little girl!

It really falls (responsibility wise) on the kids . They do what they do.

Good caring parents and good honest friends are the only thing that will help these kids.

When my son was about 13 he tried a few times to get way with his pants low, boxers showing (nothing like the pic above). I was all over him for it. I told him, nicely, that it wasn't proper.

He said he wouldn't do it anymore.

He and his brother were at the Valley plaza mall one afternoon. My husband and I went a little later (the boys didn't know we were there)

We happened to be behind them as they came out of a store.

My sons pants were low and boxers showing.

So, I grabbed his pants and yanked them to the floor.

He started to really give it to me until he saw who it was.

He pulled his pants up. Ran off and didn't talk to me for a week.

After that we talked. I apologized, so did he.

I never worried about it again.

Hes grown up now and I realize the way they dress isn't an issue as long as it isn't a*# showing garbage, trashy. Let it go. It's minor.

Although I don't like the pants hanging low...it all goes back to our age.   Our parents disliked our choice of clothes, wore long hair, listened to music that they hated, had our ears pierced (women), our bikini's were too small,  etc. ... all at the dismay of "our" parents ... as they did their parents ... and so on.  This to shall pass.  We'll find something to hate about the next fad as well.  I'm just thankful the stores sell things appropriate for my age...but yet not grandmotherly looking, like they did just a few years ago.  I'm so glad my daughters cho(o)se to wear clothes that were/are more on the lines of classic or sporty or like my youngest, she loved the vintage look.  I'd rather these kids express themselves through their choice of clothes, then some other negative & harmful way.  Just turn the other cheek (pun intended) and move on.

To give you something to think about, when they're tired of wearing the pants low, this could be next.

The ACLU is ready to jump down anyones throat!! Take pictures of other races too and maybe that'll shut them up. The baggy pants looks sloppy and stupid, jmo.

posted by AudreyB on Jul 22, 2008 at 07:57 AM

Those pants are a safety hazard as well as an eyesore.  Can you imagine trying to escape from a fire, out of control vehicle, sniper, pit bull, or any other kind of dangerous situation being hobbled at your knees.    But the ACLU is right.  Let the idiots demonstrate their constitutional right to be stupid.  I call it thinning the herd.

I occasionally watch movies from the seventies when TIGHT pants and SHORT shorts on men were the fashion.  I'm always amazed at how vulgar they were.  (Plus the movies were BAD)     I didn't think so at the time, but I've got better taste now.   LOL
