I think it depends on which neighbors. Some, I always want to talk to, and they want to talk to me (at least I think they do -- but after reading your post I'm not so sure now!) These are people who we share something in common with, usually the ones who have little kids like we do. The kids are friends, so we end up being friends with their parents, if for no other reason than to have people around who will watch out for each other's little ones.

Then there are the people we share absolutely nothing in common with, like our neighbors who can't seem to collect enough ATVs, motorcycles and boats in front of their house. I'm a pretty friendly person, but I have to admit that I have the same reaction when those people are out. And I think it's mutual. We smile and wave and pretend to be chummy, but in fact we've only been inside each others' houses once or twice (or never) and it starts to get awkward.

I guess that's life in the suburbs! If you don't like it, buy a plot of land in the middle of nowhere. That problem will go away real fast :-

I would LOVE a nice big property with lots of room to roam ha ha! It's my dream! But, until my ship comes in..I'm going to be here for a while :-)

I do like these people. They are decent and very clean.

I try to be a good neighbor by being the same.

I was really having a bad day yesterday because I was trying to get yard work done and they truly made every attempt nearly impossible.

I have lived here 2 years now and have really gotten to know them very well. My biggest complaint is that they (really not me) come to the fence and start a conversation everytime I am out. Not just a wave or hello but straight to the fence.

We re-did our cooler pads Friday and they were both right there on our deck.

Totally understandable! Someone should write up and distribute rules for neighbor etiquette. It's not that different from office etiquette. If you walk by someone's desk or office, you always say "Do you have a minute?" or "Are you in the middle of something?" first, vs. just barging in and blabbing. The same should go for neighbors.
