Iron man.....

Am I the only one who thinks that going to this movie is supporting a druggie? Robert downy Jr is a freakin' drug user. Why would anyone see his movies?

Because he's been clean and sober for quite some time now; his wife drew a line in the sand, and he hasn't crossed it. Where have you been that you didn't know about this?

One of the best of his generation, even more so now. He was especially good in "Fur".

He is an awesome actor...that's why.  And yes, he has been living clean for a while now.  So pretty much all actors who have had substance problems should not have people go see their movies then??  Anyone of Downey's talent should have their movies seen...over and over again.  I saw "Ironman" and I absolutely loved it.  Plus I'm a Marvel fan, there was no stopping me.  Quit being sheltered :)

So tchudilowsky are saying that because some one had a problem with drugs that society should just turn there backs on them? If so you come from a world of ignorance............

A real talent. Like many great ones, greatly flawed! Great in under rated Zodiak BTW!

I'm going to see "Iron Man" today. Thought I'd wait for the huge crowds to die down and see a Mon matinee. After checking box office sales yesterday, it looks as if Marvel Studios has a mega-hit on it's hands right out of the gate.

I wasn't too sure when I heard RDowneyJr would star, but I tried to think of someone else whom I could see as Tony Stark. Turns out they made the right choice. Also seriously looking forward to Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart later this summer...

If a druggie is hurting himself then it should be his issue. He won't be the first celeb to overdose. On the other hand, I will not buy anything--I don't care what it is or how good it is--from Michael Jackson or anything he endorses. My conscience will not allow me to patronize a pedophile. So, tc, you have your moral convictions and you're entitled to them and I respect them.

It has occurred to me that perhaps the general public expects their celebrity idols to be eccentric and controversial. Very few squeaky-clean people become mega stars.

posted by NancyII on May 5, 2008 at 06:56 AM

There's a long list of stars with addiction problems..RD is hardly the first nor will he be the last.    In my case, I have no idea what he looks like and if I saw him in a movie you'd have to point him out.

Thank goodness for the guide part on my remote control.  I wouldn't know who any of the younger stars are without it, except for the biggies like Damon etc.

TC how old are you?? gotta be under 20 and living a sheltered life...nothing wrong with that cept when you step out into the real world and make statements like this. Im worried that in the wrong situation some one might take advantage of your child like innocence..Ya need to learn to keep an eye on your surroundings more and listen to whats going on before you speak out. Not trying to be mean here more like a concerend friend. If we cut everyone out of our lives that have experimented with drugs or alcohol ..this old world would be a lonely place.

posted by gube on May 5, 2008 at 07:21 AM

catpaw why did you compare pedophiles to drug addicts..................Anyway I don't recon that you see MJ endorsing and products any time soon

He's very talented Nancy, one of the best.

He just has a major Jones.

At least he hasn't cut off an ear yet..................

Did anyone see Robert downy Jr in less then zero. It was about a young man addicted to smoking cocaine. I am convinced that downy had to be strong out on drugs during the film because you can't act that spun.

posted by NancyII on May 5, 2008 at 07:33 AM

You can tell I don't watch many movies.  :-)

I need to get out more.

posted by ChicoEsquela on May 5, 2008 at 07:38 AM

I thought of less than zero but that wouldn't be good for her kids.

Then again, maybe more should watch it.

Like a lot of great performances, maybe he wasn't really acting (that much)

Here is his Imdb page, one of my favorites is "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints",but his range is remarkable.P.S.There are quite a few "squeaky clean" starts out there, but, the public does seem to love the angst ridden ones.

Thanks for the link sage, I see he'll reprise his role as Tony Stark in the new "Hulk" movie as well...

If partying were a criteria for not not watching movies, only Mr. Rogers would pass muster on the big screen.

Downey is an exceptional actor, and If you want someone to portray the party boy gone straight, as the character does, he is the perfect casting selection.

It is obvious by his new body that he is now taking care of himself. He's had a rough life and doing drugs with his father at age 12 didn't help him growing up. I applaud him for his reversal of fortune.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, and I was a DC comix geek...

RF, I didn't find it as good as the hype made it out to be. It's too slow paced and the action scenes are few and far between.  The effects were so-so, not what you would expect from Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic company. Paltrow, Howard and Bridges were all miscast. Especially Bridges. Howard was practically intolerable.

I liked it, but it wasn't nearly as good as the Spiderman or X-Men movies.

Downey, Jr. makes a great Tony Stark though.

Sage, have you seen "Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang"? It's one of Downey's best roles IMHO.

Sheltered? Me? Under 20? Me?

Geeezzzzeeeee

Well, fact is I can't stand the guy. That is my main reasoning I suppose.

No need to get mean. I watched as drugs destroyed a few of my family members and to support such a thing is nutty.

I don't believe he is clean. JMO! My OPINION you see.

Too bad.

Children make rationalizations based on feelings and not facts.

I don't believe he is clean

Since you admit you can't stand the guy, nothing will convince you otherwise.

Another indication you are a child.

TSM, FO

How's that for the child in me?

Just what I'd expect.

Thanks for not disappointing.

gube: read my post again. I wasn't comparing personality disorders; I was contrasting reasons for moral judgments.

I don't patronize Britney Spears, either. Her skank lifestyle has nothing to do with it. I just don't care for her music. I think the news generates most controversy. I also think alot of it is contrived by the celebs themselves. Dysfunctional behavior attracts as much notoriety as what they do as artists.

posted by gube on May 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM

Catpaw I did read your post. This blog is about weather going to this movie is supporting a druggie. not a pedophile.... and why you feel to the need combine the two is confusing to me. That's all........

I loved the movie.  He's great in the movie, but so is the older guy.  I forget his name now, does anybody remember?

posted by sagefever on May 5, 2008 at 10:31 AM

Bridges?...not sure who but this is a cast list.Yes TSM~ I loved Kiss,Kiss Bang,Bang, but I am a Downey fan.Of his acting and of what appears to be a remarkable turn around of his life.

I have always liked RDjr. and I was very happy when I discovered that he was playing the lead in Ironman and that he is getting a second chance to redirect his life and career. He is very talented, and I respect the fact that he has had major problems and is working on changing them. People like Spears are the ones I have no sympathy for. She and others like her are making no effort to change. My son saw Ironman yesterday and he said the movie "totally ROCKS!" (his words....)

Addictions are terribly difficult to overcome; just ask anyone who has quit smoking or is currently trying to.

posted by tedabrown on May 5, 2008 at 02:44 PM

RDjr. IS and has been GREAT in everything I have ever seen him in...  As far as addictions go, I believe it is 90% a MIND thing, SO; never give your body a chance to start again "unconsciously"... as it will do that, and you will not even be aware that it happened...   so be very alert and always stay away from the temptation!

Another indication you are a child.

TSM, she's 42 years old. I believe that qualifies her as an adult.

posted by anglo1 on May 5, 2008 at 06:17 PM

I don't have any problem with Tina's boycott of RDjr.  I have a real hard time watching anything with Sarandon, Bottoms, Harrelson, Glover, Rosie O, and the like.  I'm not pure enough to boycott them totally but I do have a hard time leaving politics out of some actors roles.  One of my many weaknesses.

Just finished reading this....alcohol killed my husband, but it was his choice to drink it I believe alcohol and drugs are in the same catagory and all should be against the law. JMO! Just about every actor or actress today have a drug or alcohol problem. They drive and put others at risk, when they can afford to be driven around. they do what ever they want when they want and where they want. all because they are on T.V or in a movie. and people will keep supporting them and their habits and their bad attitudes because they are awww struck... and calling someone inmature because of their opinion isnt right. Tms I bet you have every star tabloid ever published.
