A good day to live

I will take a break from my usual rants and all the heavy issues that we face in our state, nation, and species, and talk about something that has touched my life. As many of you know, my son was in a near drowning. Can you believe it, in my line of work I have come across similar events, involving other people. I guess I just want to talk about that experience.

There is nothing like someone asking you if a loved one is going to be ok. A little life is in your hands all you can tell a very worried person is “I don‘t know, we are doing are best” It is tough, especially when you want to say something like “yes” to help them feel better. Aside from that; if you have ever seen on television, doctors and nurses, and hospital staff running back and forth, all in a effort to save life of a fellow human being, and been in a Emergency Room where a situation is critical, you will know that things like that actually happen, when I see things like that I think to my self “what a valiant, and hopeful little life forms we are!”. How in those moments there is no bigotry, no religion, no pre-conceived notions, the only focus is helping someone else.

As an agnostic/atheist, I am often asked that since there is no higher power, or meaning of life, what is the point? Our lives are short and insignificant, against the backdrop of the cosmos, and the depressing knowledge that time, will continue to run, long after we are dead. To this I say that the very point of life is to make the world a little bit better, to love our fellow human, just a little more. Religion gets in the way of that, it stops us from trying to see the world from someone else eyes. Religion is set, and rigid, does not allow us to change our minds about issues. Lying is wrong, have there been instances where lying was the right thing to do?

Life is precious, because we have a limited amount of it. I want to use mine to love my family, treat my fellow man well, and leave the world a little bit better. Sorry if it turned into a rant, but not my usual grumpy self. Have a great evening

Just want to say Happy Memorial day to all those who have served they put so much on the line and ask for little in return. All I can say is that I served with, and knew some of the best men and women of this country, some of them didn't make it back alive. Whatever your belief, doesn't matter if you think these war's were in are justified or not, we don't fight for our president, our country, we fight for our wives, and families, and mostly for the man (or woman) next to us who accompany us in the fox hole. Keep what your doing, I hope for speedy resolution to Americas international conflicts

have you heard of this grade A retard? not the child but the mother of this poor child.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/...

WOW! Is all I can say. Well I can say more than that. Like that mother needs to be caught, and punished, and made an example off!! OFF WITH HER HEAD!! LOL. seriously, this person is truly despicable, she's got to be really, really stupid, to refuse to treat her child, and basically let him die, because she has a stupid holistic world view. She is truly lost, if she can't see beyond her own stupid world view to save her child. so the day begins, on a very grumpy note. GRRRRRR a little skepticism, and critical thinking would have a long way for this kid

well im sure you all have heard this story http://www.foxnews.com/stor...

about that teacher who said "Creationism 'Superstitious Nonsense'". While I agree with that comment, and while it is a true comment. In my humble opinion he should have used better judgement. Something like, creationism is not not supported by most science, and is not a valid science.  Aside from that, the courts where correct. As much as I hate it, the role of a teacher is to educate, not belittle someones belife. No matter how stupid it is. That's why the world has grumpy skeptics out there to tell people their ideas are stupid, and incorrect, LOL, just kidding. As much as I don't care to pander to people and their beliefs, this poor teacher should have known better

check out that nifty picture, there, it's all layed out for me! how silly, so that's how prayer works!! As P.Z. Myers wonderfully said "I wonder if you can pick up a "Divine Consciousness meter" at Radio Shack, and what the units it is measured in are."  that is very interesting, so yeah if anyone actuallly believes in "the power of prayer" what kind of energy or power does it use? would love to hear about it.

well I saw a post by witterpitters, shooting some tired old arguments, so why not join the mix, let me try my hand at my own list, trust me it's all toungue in cheek.

I am a Republican because I literaly believe what the bible says, the earth is only six thousand years old.

I am a Republican because I hate change especially if that means I can't continue to make profits off the sweat and blood of the poor.

I am a Republican because homesexuals scare me, I think they might infect me with their disease, if not stopped.

I am a Republican because anyone that has a diifferent point of view than me is stupid.

I am a Republican because I don't care what environmental impact we have, if we close our eyes, and plug our ears we can just leave that mess for another generation to deal with it.

I am a Republican because I hate the advance of Science, it might prove some things are untrue, like the fact that pie isn't exactly 3 as the bible claims.

I am a Republican because I love to see my country flex it's military might, as long it's not  me fighting, only the poor, uneducated, less priveliged people of this country.

I am a Republican because I could care less if a child dies of a starvation, or pnemonia, it's not my kid, not my responsiblity. Who care about human suffering, if it isn't mine.

I am a Republican becuase I love to eat babies.

Well the list goes on and on, basically all the reasons I hate republicans, hope you guys dont look too deeply into this, it was just an off the cuff writing, before i head out to dinner, enjoy! REMEMBER BE SKEPTICAL

Are all republicans really so stupid that they believe in Intelligent Design?

I get all flustered, when the G.O.P. leadership opens up their most holy mouths, and spout endless nonsense. How can anyone be so ignorant, and or stupid to really think that the earth is 6 to 10 thousand years old!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGGG. So far there is no proof that our invisible homey, is hiding in the background making me really angry and grumpy. Here check out some points, the Republican cook made on Chris Mattews show, HARDBALL

So what did Tancredo claim?

"There's Darwinian evolution, and there's Intelligent Design…the one is equal to the other in terms of the number of people who support it in terms…especially of their backgrounds and the research out there."

"Crossing a species there is no evidence of that you have to make an assumption. I'm just saying that assuming that is just as tough as assuming that there is intelligent design."

"In intelligent design, there is no argument about whether the world was made 8 thousand or 8 billion years ago."

"You can see on the micro level we see evolution but we cannot make the assumption on it about the macro level cause there's nothing there to look at, we have no scientific data."

In Darwin's day, micro evolution was the wobbly leg of the structure of evolutionary theory. He didn't have an explanation for heredity. That has also changed, of course: we now have a robust understanding of genetics, and especially of population genetics. Speciation is complex and there are all kinds of details that we don't fully understand, but it also is not doubted by scientists.

"Here's a group of people highly educated, well rounded, and well respected in their field who believe in evolution, Darwinian evolution. Here's a group of people, highly respected, who believe in intelligent design. These are two theories."

And no, they are not two theories. Evolution is a legitimate theory in the scientific sense: it is well supported by the evidence, and provides a productive, integrated, explanatory framework that guides ongoing research and ties together a large body of data. Intelligent Design creationism does not qualify as a scientific theory at all. At best, it is a highly speculative hypothesis, one assembled without any reasonable evidence, and so far it has been a spectacular failure at provoking any useful research.

Tom Tancredo is an ignorant old fool who knows nothing and simply puked up creationist talking points. Chris Matthews also knows nothing and was a lousy representative for the scientific view. The whole show was pointless, except as an aid to creationists who want to sow doubt and confusion.

Many thanks to Mr. P.Z. Myers, and his blog Pharyngula

He seems to expose these evil, ignorant, heartless

The people who believe in intelligent design do not have any kind of parity with the proponents of evolution. Few IDists have any training in the relevant biology; most are philosophers, theologians, lawyers, engineers, and dentists, among other fields. The few who do have legitimate qualifications in any kind of biological sub-discipline, like Michael Behe, are either pariahs in their own departments or have to seek shelter under the umbrella of conservative think tanks, like the Discovery Institute.
I have a special level of contempt for people who make this bogus macro/micro level argument — they always get it backwards. Macro evolution is on rock solid ground, and has been for 150 years. Darwin's work was largely on a macroevolutionary level: the evidence from paleontology, biogeography, systematics, comparative anatomy and physiology, and embryology, all disciplines that Darwin drew upon, describes the big picture of life's history, and shows common descent. In recent years, molecular biology has provided an even greater body of evidence; where Darwin had to speculate that maybe there were multiple origins for the different kingdoms of life, we now know that they can all be traced back to one common root. When a developmental biologist compares the molecules behind the evolution of eyes in a sea anemone and a cow, he is describing macroevolution. We have scientific data out the wazoo on this one.
This is a symptom of a problem, not a virtue. The evidence is overwhelming that the earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Any so-called scientific discipline that believes there is ambiguity and that 8 thousand years is just as good a guess as 8 billion is bankrupt.
No. We do of course have direct evidence of interspecies hybrids, if that's what he's talking about; we also have evidence of species evolving into new species, if that's what he's trying to say. His conclusion is sloppy thinking: it is easier to assume natural processes occurred than to postulate magic events without evidence. At least for a scientist, that is — deranged right wing politicians may differ.
Absolutely false. If you go to any biologist, there is maybe a one in a thousand chance you'll find that he or she gives even a moment's consideration to intelligent design. ID is a fringe theory held by a tiny minority of scientists. The number of IDists in biology is probably about equal to the number of kooks who have made it through graduate school. To claim parity is simply a damnable lie.
