Sharpton: Limbaugh Should Not be Allowed to Own NFL Team ..I agree!

Radio shock-jock Rush Limbaugh won’t be owning an NFL franchise, if the Rev. Al Sharpton has anything to do with it.

Former presidential candidate Rev. Al Sharpton wants the NFL to stop Limbaugh's efforts to buy the St. Louis Rams. Limbaugh announced last week that he and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are partnering in a bid to buy the struggling team.

In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, Sharpton asked the commissioner to prevent the racially incendiary conservative commentator from purchasing the St. Louis Rams. Limbaugh announced recently that he had hooked up with Dave Checketts, owner of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, to buy the team.

Limbaugh, who was fired from ESPN in 2003 after racially divisive comments about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, had been downright “anti-NFL” with many of his remarks, Sharpton says.

Limbaugh’s statement that McNabb was highly touted because the media was hungry to see a successful Black quarterback wasn’t his first comments to rile the African-American community.

Consider these, a few of the many comments that helped cast him as a foe of Black folks: “Slavery built the South…. I’m not saying we should bring it back …. I’m just saying it had its merits…. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark”; “You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King] …. We miss you, James. … Godspeed”; “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”

Limbaugh is a racist and everyone knows it.  Limbaugh said yesterday, "If I'm racist, and if 70% of the NFL players are black, why would I want to be a part of the NFL?"  The answer is easy--he wants to be able to have control and influence in the NFL.  If he could be the "owner" of a bunch of black athletes, he'd be able to get off on his fantasy about owning slaves.

Limbaugh is going to use this whole NFL thing to portray himself, once again. as the victim of liberal bias. He is just a simple man spouting the truths Americans want to hear and the left wing media castigates him for it. Poor guy.

His latest comment was that an NFL game looked like it was being played by the Crips and the Bloods without the guns. Nah, good ole Rush is no racist, just a noble conservative speaking the truth.

I saw Sharpton's interview on the Morning Joe news.  He made some valid points against Limbaugh.

To tell the truth, if I were a black player, I don't think I'd want to play on a team owned by Rush.  But then, I can't stand Rush.

So typical that timec would post this blog topic.

timec and djembe are not only the bigots here, they are completely incapable of showing their left-wing tolerance.  Why?  It doesn't exist.

To align yourself with Sharpton and Jackson just shows that any race-baiting works for you.  The rest of America, you know the real Americans, can see through all of the mental simpleness and operate with live and let live.  Try it some time.

As for your quotes attributed to Rush, you need to keep up.  ABC News and the AP have already shown that those words never came out of Rush's mouth.  They were made up by another left-wing hack.  Again, goes to show you.

Like Rush Limbaugh, you are a liar.  All of those words came out of Limbaugh's mouth.  The transcripts still exist in Lexis Nexis.

And to think my most recent post dealt with the issue of liberal media bias. Well, it looks like ol' Rush is going to deliver a forearm smash to the noggins of those who are spreading the lies about him: http://www.wnd.com/index.ph...

I hope he becomes an owner and lights a fire under the butts of my favorite NFL team.

Lies?  Is that what they call the truth, now?

There is no way 3/4th of the league owners are going to approve the sale of the team to any group with him in it.  He's hurting their brand.

The NFL will hire animal killers, wife beaters, and drug users before it allows Rush Limbaugh to run an NFL team.  That's how low on the totem pole he is.

This just goes to show how low the NFL will go to have criminals on the teams. I'd love to see how many black players would play on the team if Rush bought it? I bet many would since like it has been posted before it's all about money.

Rush qualifies as being a "drug user."  Maybe he does have a chance.

so now we have a good ole boy network called the NFL that picks and chooses who can make money by owning one of their franchises?

If you havent noticed lately, the NFL is RIDDLED with players and owners of questionable integrity

AL DAVIS is one of them

i could fill up this whole blog with the names of players who got dui's, killed people, took drugs, beat their wives, committed armed robbery........

and now the NFL wont let someone own a team because he choses to exercise his first amendment?

wow

anyone remember Marge Schott?  former owner of the Cincinatti Reds?  she had a propensity of dropping N bombs in the clubhouse AFTER games with all the players there...she NEVER garnered this much attention and hush bimbo.

granted, i dont agree with everything he says, but, he does have a right to say it, and he has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

seems our constitution has become a doormat as of late

I think Sharpton is racists that's why he doesn't want Rush to buy the team, but I bet if he were black, that would be a different story.

Nothing new there.  Remember the AFL (there was a documentary on Showtime a week ago about that)?  That was a classic example of the good ole boy system picking and choosing who could make money by owning one of their franchises.

I say let him be part owner of a team---business is business....should make for some VERY interesting news....

Heck,it's his money....

posted by jfrancais on Oct 14, 2009 at 08:09 AM

The players are saying he can own the team but they won't play for him.

We'll see...  You have to hold a real grudge to leave millions on the table.  This is America.  Do they really think he's the only racist owner of a franchise/company in America?  they are just talking.  The average NFL career is only 4 years.  You don't have time to be mad at Limbaugh.

I would have played for Marge Schott or any other owner if the contract was right (or just for the idea to play pro ball).

You put ENOUGH ZEROS on those paychecks--and I'll bet those players WILL play football--reguardless who signs the checks...

After all..business is business...

posted by jfrancais on Oct 14, 2009 at 08:25 AM

That's right, Ling.  All this big talk is semantics.  They need to do what they do best- play football.

Political statements always get in the way of money.

You'll hear more talk from the head of the NFLPA and retired players.  They are either doing their job or don't have a vested interest in the outcome.

posted by Lingtaowoo on Oct 14, 2009 at 08:47 AM

You change things by the power of the vote...but in this case--players can STRIKE---but it better be for a darn good reason....

I don't know of ANYONE that would walk away from MILLIONS...after all, that's money that they will need to set up their future...

Or they can use their degrees that they got in college while playing football...wonder how many of them are doctors and lawyers or businessmen....

Naw---if it was me...just put enough ZEROS on my paycheck and I'll play ball....

Bwahahahaha.  They'll never make as much money as they do now unless they are on the lower end of the NFL pay scale.

They won't strike.  Furthermore, I don't see the owners approving the sale to a group with Limbaugh in it.  24 of teh 32 must approve.  It hurts the brand.  The job of the commish is to protect the brand.

We do still live in the USA................don't we??? or do we???  I'm beginning to wonder. Can't say this or that. Can't do this or that. Turn in your neighbor. Drive this car not that car. Don't talk politics openly in a restaurant. Don't let your 6 year old take his cub scout fork & spoon to eat with at school. Don't eat that french fry. Only drink diet stuff. Don't smoke. Don't drink alcohol. don't, don't don't.

Al Sharpton has not much to do with it.  The 31 other owners do.

posted by sagefever on Oct 14, 2009 at 02:36 PM

The NFL commissioner has some input also.

As we learned on the playground your words do matter. See my story about witters brother on the SS/restaurant/Topp stories blog. I miss that rascal so much.

posted by jfrancais on Oct 14, 2009 at 02:40 PM

The commissioner works for the owners, too.  If the owners say no, they trump anything the commish says.

Well~ he is saying no last I heard...which reminds me off to read the news.
