Man stabbed, carjacked in east Bakersfield

A 31-year-old man was stabbed and carjacked in east Bakersfield Tuesday night.

The victim, Carlos Calderon, was driving southbound on Gage and Monterey streets and stopped at a stop sign at about 8 p.m., according to a news release by the Bakersfield Police Department.

Between 10 to 12 males attacked Calderon and pulled the man out of the vehicle, according to the news release. The suspects beat and stabbed the man.

The suspects drove off in Calderon's 1999 Oldsmobile.

Calderon suffered stab wounds in his neck and body and was taken to Kern Medical Center. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, said Bakersfield police Lt. Scott McDonald.

This sounds like something out of an old Death Wish movie....................

Actually, Murph, a friend sent a Irish friendship wish and this pic was attached.  There was another one too, will post it later :-)  Speaking of - I figured out how to change my personal pic, but how do I get a pic in the "comment" part of my post??

This is yet another reminder to be absolutely aware of your surroundings. If you are driving in east bakersfield and a group of guys are standing on a corner where there's a stop sign, it's probably a good idea to "roll" the stop sign and get the heck out of there, as well as locking your doors when you're driving around east bakersfield. It seems like every morning the news reports another violent crime committed in NE, SE or E bak. Sounds like we need more cops out there.

There so much wrong about that little comment noon...but I'll leave that to your conscious to figure out.

You know, trying to argue with people on the Internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. You can win...but you're still disabled. Edited for my politically correct friends.

No, Witter, it sucks because it's been run as a for-profit system where health takes a backseat to profit.  Where it makes economic sense to gamble on waiting until a crisis drives you to the ER instead of going to see a doctor you can't afford.

.

If we went to a single-payer system (like my spouse is covered under)  we wouldn't even *NOTICE* the undocumented people at the health clinic.

RF:  "ER's are inundated because our health-care system sucks."

Of course our health care sucks! It is gummed up with all the illegals who came across the border, dropped the child on US soil and have been allowed to utilize our resources!  duhhh!

The same with our educational system - it sucks because we now have to have ESL classes for those same illegal children who, even at the age of kindergarden can't speak English because their illegal parents only speak Mexican and themselves never learned English.  EVEN at the college level they now have to have ESL!  Now THAT is ridiculous.

There are other nationalities who have come here speaking no English and within 6 months they are at least understandable.  I have a friend from Peru, he has been here a year (legally) and the first thing he did was go to the adult school and sign up for ESL. Within 6 months he was able to obtain work BECAUSE he could speak English! He gets better and better every day and has moved up in his job.  He plans to go to college and pay his own way!  He and his wife just had a baby - they paid for that child themselves.

So half the jail cells in the country *AREN'T* occupied by drug offenders, then, Blue?  Because the government seems to think they are.

Well,we all know that gangs are alive and well and still doing what they want to do...whenever and wherever they like...yup,keep doors and windows locked is common sence in ALOT of neighborhoods in Bakersfield....ten to twelve people..sounds like an ambush on someone they wanted...I think there is more to this...

This wasn't just one freak acting out. It was an entire mob. It's ridiculous.

Makes me think that California needs to become a "Shall Issue" state. I think it'd be a deterrent because you just wouldn't know if that person in the car was going to shoot you.

Just the fear of the unknown would be enough to make a lot of these animals think twice before bothering a non-participant.

TonyH~ I have no idea what drives people to this type of weirdness. The trial for the 18 year old who tried to murder my friend has been postponed for a month or so..I hope for enlightenment there, but fear none will come. For people to feel it reasonable to accost you in your car, beat and stab you...well I have had bad days but that is all beyond me. Something goes terribly wrong in people and hate seems to take hold of the human heart~regardless of race, borders, car locks, time in prison or out of it,or lifestyle choices.

No one goes to prison for simple drug possession unless they have gone through a whole lot of other steps in the system first. Steps like court probation, drug diversion, local jail, and felony probation. And those who do end up in prison usually are the ones who commit residential burglaries, white collar crimes, thefts, ect, to support their habits. And some are charged with other, more serious crimes, but they take a plea bargain to simple possession, get a 16 month sentence, do 9 months in custody, get out, and go right back to their criminal lifestyle.

And many of those felonies include the simple possession of drugs.  Half the jail space in the country is taken up by our insane crusade against drug users.

No RF, everyone in prison is there because they have committed a felony. You may consider it minor, but the law doesn't.
posted by randomfactor on Nov 14, 2007 at 09:25 AM

They aren't.  The prisons are filled with people who broke minor drug laws.  You don't have the stats, right.

.

ER's are inundated because our health-care system sucks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  locking doors - what a concept!!!!!  I have auto door locks but also but have always locked my doors before auto locks became pretty much standard.

"For the record, "illegal" aliens tend to be more law-abiding than citizens." ?????

If that is the case then why are most of the prisons filled with illegals and almost everytime there is a Mexican arrested he/she is illegal, at the BPD/CHP stops most of the cars impounded are becasue of no driver's license and although I do not have the stats, I would bet most of those are illegals!  Why do you think welfare, emergency rooms & classrooms are inundated?

I got here from another country legally why can't others?

For the record, "illegal" aliens tend to be more law-abiding than citizens.

Really?  Do you not know what the word illegal means?

Good time to remind people.....KEEP YOUR CAR DOORS LOCKED !

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.  I miss the car I used to drive of my grandsons that automatically locked the doors when you started the car and shifted into gear.

My car doesn't do that but if I use the remote to unlock it and don't open the door within say 5 minutes, it relocks itself.  Scared the crap out of me the first time it did it with me standing by it visiting.

A friend of mine says it isn't getting any worse, either.  For the record, "illegal" aliens tend to be more law-abiding than citizens.

It has everything to do with the lawlessness that refusal to secure our borders and enforce our laws encourages. And as a friend of mine who works the court says "It isn't getting any better."

And a dozen guys rode off in one car?  Were they wearing clown makeup?

Although I don't agree with open borders, I really  doubt if this has anything to do with an open border.

Ah, the joys of having an open border policy.
