Le Tour: Even the sunflowers...

CyclingNews' live coverage Thursday featured this photo with the cutline:

Sunflowers turned their backs.

Dang, even the flowers are critics! Poor dopers.

Yahoo's live coverage momentarily gave it up:

80km - One of the Lampre riders has stopped for a quick toilet break by the side of the road. Not too much more to report, to be honest.

Then the remaining Rabo riders followed suit:

7km - The Rabobank team are riding right at the back of the peloton. They are thoroughly fed up. And who can blame them?

Another former pro, Jan Koerts, confesses on live Dutch TV he doped:

"You come to a given point in your career where you have to decide," he said on the show De Avondetappe. ..."You go to the controls, which turn out negative, and then life goes on."

Thursdays stage ends. Contador will wear yellow Friday morning. Life goes on.

I hate to turn the conversation away from its rightful focus -- rampant doping -- but I just have to add this tidbit about Mauricio Soler, the Colombian in the polka dot jersey. I thought he looked all gangly on the bike, and I was right!! He's six feet tall! A six-foot-tall climber? Unheard of!!

I love him even more. Please don't let him be hopped up on dope.

I don't think he is. Near the end of a couple of recent climbs, he showed signs of fatigue with his shoulders slumping and looking quite tired, like a normal cyclist.

Pat--

I feel yer angst.

This sport just breaks your heart, don't it?
