Paris Back in Jail....Can I have an AMEN?

Breaking News....Paris is going back to jail.  You know, I could give a rats patootie about Paris.  But what I do love is, justice is being served for the celebutante.

Poor little rich girl got released for medical reasons?  What the HAYHAY?!?  Ummm, they have a place in prison, I believe its called the INFIRMARY.  What medical problem does Paris have that can't be handled there?

Who did she talk into letting her go?  What yutz thought it was ok to let her finish under house arrest.  Oh, the Sheriff's official, Lee Baca..  I'm so glad the judge called them all back in.

I haven't read the story yet, it was just breaking on CNN.

All I heard was she left the court screaming and crying for her mommy....

She'll come out and write a book (if she can put a thought together)  It'll be called :  Jail is not hot!

I wonder if she'll get a tattoo on the inside.  What should it say?

"Who did she talk into letting her go?"

Are you sure she talked her way to freedom?  ;-)

Not for long, she will be out by tonight, that gives her at least the weekend, the saga continues. By the time her term is over the judge will dazzled by an Army of lawyers that will keep her yo yoing between court and the mansion  until her term is over.

Tattoo = "Hardcore Princess", written in prison cursive with a black and white striped butterfly.  ;)

Book Title:  "Forty to Life in Paris."

:)

I wonder if Nicole Richie will bring her copies of Cosmo in jail?

Do you think the Hilton Hotel chain already has the judge's name on "no stay list"?

I will not be surprised if this doesn't lead to a battle between the sheriff and the judge about who is running the jail. I'm not an expert on this, but I believe the sheriff has the right to run the jail the way he sees fit.

I think you're wrong Steve.  If a sentence has been handed out by a Judge, how can a lowly sheriff rescind it?? (without taking it up with the judge, first...or does that just clog the wheels of justice too?)

I'm going to the newsstand now to see if the Californian puts out a special edition, or we have to wait for tomorrow's front page to read all the details.

This judge is doing this for publicity. Any other judge would have deferred to the Sherrif and been done with it, "time served".

I would not want to be in the judge's shoes after this thing is all over!!! Woof woof, the Sherrif CAN run the jail system as he sees fit. That is why he is the Sherrif. The judge hands down the order and punishment, but after that, the control turns to the Sherrif.

Granted, I think Ms. Hilton has been so isolated and insulated from the 'real world' (maybe the appropriate term here would be, ironically, the 'Simple Life') that thinks she is above the law, but to use the media and the circus surrounding it to "prove a point" is not right either. IMO, this judge is on a power trip. Tax dollars can be better spent in other ways I am sure.....

Just send her to my house for a good spanking and let that be that.

posted by steveeswenson on Jun 8, 2007 at 02:01 PM
I concede I might be wrong. But I've seen this play out in court a fair number of times where a sheriff makes custody and security decisions while the judge takes a hands off approach. I'm raising this as an issue in case it plays out in the next few days.

" just send her to my house for a good spanking and let that be that." obviously you are a Swenson religious, anti-obscenity, anti-free speech type who has not seen the Paris videos, she would love a good spanking moan and beg for more, try again.
posted by anonymous on Jun 8, 2007 at 02:06 PM
The key issue here is that the judge's orders were specific in that Paris could not serve her time under house arrest. The sheriff can't override that simply because she was crying too much and was cold. She's a repeat offender and deserves the sentence she got. She must serve the time.

This judge is doing this for publicity.

Can you provide any evidence for this?

Any other judge would have deferred to the Sherrif and been done with it, "time served".

I highly doubt it.

Hilton was given 45 days because she was repeatedly stopped for DUI and had violated the terms of her probation.

The judge most likely felt it was important enough to teach her there were consequences to her actions that she should serve her entire sentence considering the repeat offenses.

And as another poster pointed out, the judge's order specifically stated house arrest was not an option.

I'm glad this is the story of the day rather than the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff getting replaced because he was against going to war with Iran. I hope you guys are ready.

Oh yeah, then there's a little thing about AG Gonzales facing a vote of no confidence in the Senate on monday.

Friday news dump indeed. Bu$hCo needed this Paris Hilton story more than anybody.

Think Progress notes that Mullen's selection "also marks the first time in 21 years that both the head of the Joint Chiefs and the CentCom Commander, Adm. William Fallon, have been Navy officers."

It's no longer a question of if, but a question of when.

Do you think the Hilton Hotel chain already has the judge's name on "no stay list"?

The Hiltons might have the judge's name on a list (or maybe his grandkids' names), but it wouldn't have anything to do with a hotel stay. We'll see in a year or eighteen months, when this has all blown over.

I would not want to be in the judge's shoes after this thing is all over!!!

My sentiments exactly. Or anyone related to him.

Paris is pathetic.  But the public is even more pathetic for hanging on to every tidbit that's gleefully reported on E entertainment.

We have become a nation of gossips.

What we need is a coliseum with lions and gladiators so we can crucify clueless celebs properly.

BTW  sorry for the alliteration

I do see your point, Nancy.  And, normally, I don't give a rat's behind about what celebrities do.  BUT, Paris has made a life out of being a pampered princess.  She's had television shows, produced with her blessing and edited to make her look good, that present the image of a girl who truly, truly believes that she's above "the little people".  Remember "the Simple LIfe"?  Remember all of the havoc she and Nicole created, week after week, for the people in those shows?  After the first series, I couldn't watch anymore...it was painful.  You have people who work hard to get very little and then you have people working very little who get the world handed to them.  When those who have the world handed to them not only hold little appreciation for it, but also somehow consider themselves beyond the rules... why is wrong for those who *do* work for little to celebrate when justice is finally served?  Why is it wrong to recognize the fulfilled kharma?  Paris isn't just some rich girl who's being unfairly persecuted by a mean old judge.  She's a woman who decided, THREE TIMES, to drive under the influence of alcohol.  She put other lives in danger and THEN had the audacity to be shocked when someone finally held her accountable for her bad decisions.  If she had been a black girl from Compton, she'd have been thrown in the pokey long ago...and you can bet that any anxiety she suffered would've been dealt with by the jail staff- NOT a private physician and a team of attorneys who could get ahold of the right people at the right times.
