Carr cut, but will rise again
I wouldn't shed too many tears for Stockdale High product David Carr, cut by the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. When it comes to NFL quarterbacks, it's a seller's market out there and Carr should be able to find employment, albeit probably as a No. 3, maybe a No. 2 at a place like Atlanta or Chicago, but certainly not at another $6 million for two years. It''s not that much of a seller's market. At least seven teams, including Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Kansas City, Baltimore and the Jets, have serious issues at starting quarterback, which means their current No. 2s and 3s are really suspect. Carr might even have a chance at No. 1 in those markets. No one in the cast of free agents would strike fear in an opposing defense — Daunte Culpepper, Billy Volek and Cleo Lemon probably the best in the bunch. Carr has to rise to the top of that list, despite his awful season in Carolina and six seasons in Houston no one seems to be able to say with any certainty were good, bad or just OK. It's mind-boggling why the Bears would resign Rex Grossman for a year, knowing that Carr might soon become available, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's where he winds up. Now cast aside by two teams, Carr might now be in survival mode, which can mean he'll put in extra work to rise his game up to where everyone knows it can and should go. So my guess is that Carr will be playing on Sunday's somewhere next season.

I am concerned that David Carr may now have a confidence problem. The constant hammering he took in Houston both from the fans and the opponent's defense plus this past year makes it hard for him to feel optimistic. posted by

I don't care what QB any team in Houston has (or what they call themselves) they will always blame their QB! Past is prologue on to Panthers.............. I would have warned David about going there if I knew him. Really! Warren Moon could thread a needle and yet all I ever heard was how he wasn't a "leader", wasn't smart enough, yada yada........ for years! Of coors, the only way a black man could be popular in a skill position in Houston is if he chewed tobacco, wore Tenny Lamas, and kissed Bud Adams ass while talking as much like Bum Phillips as humanly possible (Earl Campbell). They ruined a potentially great QB. After Houston, everything is downhill. No matter where you go. And if you go somewhere with a lousy offensive line? You figure it out. Perfect Storm! Again, just like Warren! If you like the game David, get into broadcasting. Houston trashed your career! Bastids! posted by

Yeah, maybe 49'ers. Would love to see it work out! Love 49'ers! But I fear Houston and aftermath may have done him in, mentally if not physically. When you hear "footsteps" after a number of years in NFL with a lousy OL, it can get to ANYBODY! So I'm not hopeful posted by

There ya go Andy. Daunte Culpepper. Come on man. The guy is physically a specimen. He too needs good protection. If I think there is one area left in this country where there is a last bastion of resistance due to race, its NFL QB! Anglo men (Hispanics too though) still harbor those doubts about a black man's ability to general an NFL team. Remember UT QB vs. SC? Vince Young=467 total yards vs. USC! No small feat that! Case closed.
