The news also said that the owner is not allowed to be around pets until further notice. I wanted to let people know that pets need to be cared for TOO! Maybe this will make pet owners think. Bennett Goldberg, 55, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services reported. He was held on $20,000 bail, according to the sheriff's department. A witness saw Goldberg's Labrador retriever about 1 p.m. Tuesday in an unlocked car in the 6800 block of Owensmouth Avenue, officials said. Someone called 911, and another person tried to give the dog some water, but the animal went into convulsions and died, officials said. Police arrested Goldberg a short time later. If convicted of felony animal neglect, Goldberg could face up to three years in prison.
