We have had economic sauces with raising the GDP I think every year and we should continue that trend. We do have a debt but raising taxes would cause less money to made and less to be paid off. The way to fix our debt problem is to make more money, not by increasing taxes, but by selling more and earning more taxes all ready on the books. Not just raising the taxes so everyone who does buy pays more. I think that's basically it.

Think about it, you buy stuff, it cost more you might buy less. But if it cost less you buy more. I cant get more basic than that.

I find it funny reading a blog post like this. Since the Republican Party has absolutely no plan to benefit working people in this country, and have not had a plan for many years now, the only thing left is to distract voters with smear campaigns. There is no plan for health care from Republicans. There is no jobs or economic stimulus plan that does not further reward the very wealthiest in the land by proposing yet another tax cut to wipe away vital services the lower 90% of earners use for basic survival. The only beneficiaries of the Bush tax cuts thus far have been the very rich. Republicans tout a strong defense and yet turn their backs on the promises made to the very soldiers they give lip service to. They vote to deny real GI benefits by blocking the latest Congressional proposal to bring the GI Bill up to date. The only thing Republicans have demonstrated a talent for is the smear campaign. After hearing NPR today with Republican strategists taking a beating from callers in their own Party over how out of touch with reality Republican ideology is today, it is no wonder the nation sees only dirt being thrown from a bunch of desperate small-minded individuals. BS, if we spent the past 7 years and $500,000,000,000 on alternative energy, do you think oil would still be $128 bbl? Do you think we'd still be importing as much from OPEC? You're assuming the plan was to invade Iraq to increase oil production. That was only one of the plans- that the US would develop the Iraqi oil fields and break the back of OPEC. Rookie mistake. You see, the other plan was to invade Iraq and have US companies sign contracts to develop the fields but then not put them into production. That way they would get the increased profits (as they would with Plan 1) while doing absolutely no work at all. Sure, OPEC is still in power, but with the Iraq oil fields firmly in the hands of the US, we could do that another day, another decade.

In the last week I've received 2 calls from Kevin McCarthy's phone team. ON MY CELL PHONE ! This is the first time I've ever had political or telemarketing calls on that phone and I am extremely displeased. I'm not a cell phone expert but I'm told that incoming calls use up my minutes and that REALLY ticks me off as I'm on a family members plan and the minutes are shared.

I disconnect as soon as I hear the voice but what about voice mail? Anyone know how that works...eats into minutes available? Not?

It's going to take more than just one man to put us back on the right course. It's going to take a congress that's more concerned about correcting our direction than it is about getting reelected.

It's going to take the best econoimic brains this country has to figure out healthy fiscal program. And the best diplomatic and military brains to get us out of Iraq.

I'm confident things will get better because Americans always seem to pull together when things are darkest. And, Lord, they're dark now.

We are ever changing and ever evolving as a country and will continue to grow and thrive. It will never be in the same way but then look at the changes since someone looked around and decided they didn't like England bossing them around anymore.

Sometimes I think one of the worst of our sayings is "In MY day!" In MY day umbilical cords got wrapped around a baby's neck if you hung clothes on the clothesline and you caught a cold if you washed your hair and went to bed with the window open.

Hopefully we learn from the past and also realize what happened then won't work now. The founding fathers didn't know, nor could they have foreseen instant communication as in todays world. It gives new meaning to "The shot heard round the world." That was figuritively speaking, now it literally happens. Ben Franklin would have been dancing a jig (while not dancing with the ladies) to see the communications, power plants and technology of today.

We have to do what works now. We have to fight enemies who don't know the meaning of Code Of Honor." We have McDonalds and Starbucks. Whoulda thunk in those days that not only could you take the misses to the pub, she's probably been going there longer than you have.

This is all rambling sort of in fun but the reality is, This Ain't Kansas Anymore. Maybe it's better.

Jfran, I would call McCain an idiot, but his supporters probably deserve that label more than he. I don't see how they can feel like they know what they're getting with him. He takes a strong stance on a lot of issues, and it's usually on the not so Republican side. So I am completely astonished to see Republicans voting for him. But, at least he has a voting history.

And, I'm surprised you demand substance from me when I criticize Obama. He never seems to carry substance in his speeches or arguments. I'll bring substance in to it as soon as he can give me some substance to criticize substantially.
