Date:  Saturday, July 05, 2008 Time:  5:08:12 PM Department Contact: Ronald Maniord Phone:  392-6003 Details: Last night, at approx. 1910 hrs/ 7:10 pm, investigators with the Kern County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Section contacted three subjects standing next to a 2006 Toyota Corolla; in the area of North King St and Knotts St. During the course of the contact, the investigators conducted a registration check on the vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Bakersfield Police Department on June 24, 2008.  While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, property was located that indicated that it may have been stolen. Investigators contacted the AJ Wright clothing store on Niles St. The investigators learned that the store had been the victim of a theft earlier in the day, but had not reported the theft. After further investigation, it was confirmed that the property located, in the trunk of the vehicle, had been taken from the clothing store. (12:35 a.m. PST) a reinforced 1st alarm from the Bakersfield FIRE Department consisting of 3 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 squad, 3 Battalion Commanders, 1 Arson Unit, and various support units responded to a report of structure fire at a East Bakersfield location. First arriving companies reported heavy smoke and fire emitting from a rear room of a single family residence of approximately 1200 sq. ft.  Engine companies extended lines to the interior to and extinguished the fire. Support companies ventilated the smoke from the house. Smoke and water damage to the interior was extensive.  BFD Arson Unit investigating the fire determined there were fireworks in the vicinity of the fires origin. (10:57 p.m. PST) a reinforced 1st alarm from the Bakersfield FIRE Department consisting of 3 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 squad, 3 Battalion Commanders, 1 Arson Unit, and various support units responded to a report of structure fire at a Southeast Bakersfield location. First arriving companies reported heavy smoke and fire emitting from the roof of a single family residence of approximately 1500 sq. ft.  The first arriving Engine Company extended lines to the interior to attic in what proved to be a roof fire that had extended into the attic. Support companies confirmed that all residents had safely fled the home. Interior salvage operations saved most of the families belongings, but water damage to the interior was extensive.  Major structural damage to the roof and support member was reported.  BFD Arson Unit investigating the fire determined that the cause was illegal fireworks. This home was in a county area protected by City fire companies. On the property numerous explosive devices were found that were made by altering fireworks that are illegal in the City. Additionally, Arial fireworks launched from a nearby street had been seen landing on the wood shake roof earlier in the evening. PEDESTRIAN Burlgary suspects crash, arrested http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/BreakingNewsTeam/29559 http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/BreakingNewsTeam/29559 Bakersfield Police Department Press Release For Immediate Release                 Thursday, July 03, 2008   Injury accident leads to burglary arrests   On 7/3/08, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Bakersfield Police responded to an injury accident at Planz Road and Hughes Lane.   Upon arrival officers located a victim, Narinder Kaur (43), of Bakersfield, lying in the roadway suffering from moderate injuries.  Kaur had been ejected from a vehicle as a result of the accident.  Kaur was taken to Kern Medical Center.     Investigation revealed that a few minutes before the accident two suspects were observed committing a vehicle burglary.  The suspects fled in a black Honda.  The victim of the burglary began following them and called police.  The suspect vehicle traveling north on Hughes Lane ran a red light at Planz Road and collided with a green Saturn being driven by Varinder Singh (19).  This resulted in the ejection of Kaur from the Saturn.  Another passenger in the Saturn complained of pain and was also taken to Kern Medical Center.   The driver of the suspect vehicle, Francisco Estapa (23), of Bakersfield, fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later with the assistance of citizens who pointed out his direction of flight.  The second suspect, Ivan Calvillo (26), of Bakersfield, was arrested at the scene.  They were charged with grand theft, conspiracy, and vandalism.  Estapa was also charged with hit and run.  They were booked into the Kern County Jail. 35.324936 -119.030105
