Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 2201 Hrs. (10:01 p.m. PST) a reinforced first alarm from the Bakersfield FIRE Department consisting of 3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 squad, 1 Battalion Commander, 1 arson unit, responded to a report of a structure fire at a northeast Bakersfield location. The first arriving engine company reported heavy fire emitting from a single family residence. The residence was part of a large multi-unit apartment complex with significant exposure risk.

Bakersfield City FIRE crews advanced hose lines through the front door, searching for possible victims of the fire as they moved to the rear of the house. The firefighters were met with extreme heat and smoke from the growing fire that was consuming a living room, bedroom and hall. Aggressive fire attack controlled the fire in less then ten (10) minutes.

Damage to the residence was set at $85,000. Due to the construction and close proximity to multiple units in the La Jolla complex the fire could have been much more destructive. Quick attack confined the fire to the apartment if origin.

The cause of the fire in under investigation by BFD Arson units. The cause is considered suspicious.
