Monday, July 7, 2008 at 0735 hrs. (7:35 a.m. PST) a reinforced 1st alarm from the Bakersfield FIRE 
Department consisting of 3 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 squad, 3 Battalion Commanders, 1 Arson Unit, and 
various support units responded to a report of structure fire at a Central Bakersfield location. First arriving 
companies reported heavy smoke and fire emitting from a second story room of an apartment complex. In 
addition, the fire officer noted that there appeared to be several injured residents that had escaped the fire. 
The personnel from Truck 1 were assigned to assess and treat the injured.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; 
&amp;nbsp;
Engine companies extended lines to the interior to and extinguished the fire. Support companies ventilated 
the smoke from the house. Smoke and water damage to the interior was extensive. Fire was confined to 
the second story bedrooms.&amp;nbsp; 
&amp;nbsp;
The fire broke out in an occupied bedroom. The adult occupant may have awoken to flames in her room 
and fled with a 5 year old female in her arms. Both were exposed to significant heat and smoke. The 
mother suffered burns as well as heat and smoke inhalation, the toddler suffered smoke and heat related 
injuries. The two other minors suffered minor injuries. All were transported to KMC for treatment.

This fire is still be investigated by BFD Arson Unit.
