They did the same thing with officer Ryan Floyd involving sexual misconduct several years back. Nothing ever proven but terminated anyway. Luff made a poor decision by transporting two intoxicated females without having a partner with him. It will most likely cost him his job...

There was a kern county sheriff's sargent assigned to the detective division who was accused of child molestation. He fell for a pre-text call and admitted his crime. He is now serving a long prison term. If Luff did admitt guilt in the call he needs to resign, plead a good deal with the DA and get on with his life. Dragging it out will only prolong the pain for everyone involved including himself...

I used to respect BPD but no more. They acted on a false report and traumatized our family. I won't go into details but it was awful. Everything was dropped the next day due to further investigation. Mind you we have absolutely NO police record ever-not even a traffic ticket in 25+ years. I will NEVER open the door for an officer of the law-that's an oxymoron-again. They had better have a search warrant in their hot little hands before they ever knock on my door again. My complaint against these detectives was dismissed and they got away with saying some very inappropriate things to me. We were guilty before a fair trial. Now even after many months my minor child still hides when someone knocks on the door because of how they handled this situation. I now have some idea of what police brutality is.

I'm so glad I'm gay. A woman tried that bull with me when I was a student that I "felt her up" because we within inches of each while passing in a narrow walkway. She complained, the campus police duly investigated. I told them under no uncertain terms that my sexual orientation precluded an interest in her oversized bags of silicon. They dropped the matter. Apparently she had also accused another student in the same dorm of the same thing and unbeknownst to her he was gay too and knew one of the detectives. She just had a fantasy of being the target of (gay) men's attention. Fat whore.

I'll tell you guys, and no offense to many of you women, but you're just asking for it interacting with them. You can't joke with them, you can't talk to them, you can't be near them or work with them because they will cry foul on the drop of a dime. You can slap a guy on the ass, throw your arm around him in friendship, cuss at him when you're mad but if you so much as glance at a woman the "wrong way" or give her a hug SHE ASKED FOR she's crying bloody rape. I'm sorry, but I feel bad for the officer and I hope he gets off the hook and learns from this experience. I'd hate to see another member of law enforcement go down because of some dumb drunk slut and a public unsympathetic to crap these officers have to put up with babbysitting them on a daily basis.

As much as it sounds harsh, BB has a good point. Women do it all the time, for attention or some other reason. The same goes for domestic abuse. They cry foul when they are hit, but some fail to mention the thirty seven times they have whacked their significant other upside the head.

I didn't get the impression the BB is saying she deserved it. Its unfortunate that there are people out there in our society that cry wolf...and make it that much worse for a real victim to come forward and be believed. I think that's his point.

I am not passing that judgement on this woman, or insinuating in any way that sexual assault or abuse is okay, I just hope she is telling the truth.

So we should all wait and see... instead of rushing to judgement based on blog comments and "friends of friends",

As far as this Luff thing I am "out of the loop", so I will accept your assessment of the situation. The circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual battery are in themselves enough cause for termination, even if the actual crime had not occurred.

They are not going to arbitrarily toss an officer to the media, ergo the department to the media, without having their facts straight. Cops are people...we all make mistakes AND we all have to pay for those mistakes.

I think the victim of this offense must be a brave young woman. Would you want to walk into a police department and accuse a cop of lewd behavior? I think most of us would be too intimated to stand up for ourselves in a similar situation. I wish this officer no ill will, but if he does not have the common sense not to allow himself to be in a position that creates a mess like this, I don't want him "protecting" me and mine, regardless of the outcome of his trial.

I know a few cops, just like everyone else there are some really good people and some power thirst arses. If he was arrested it was based on more than one person's report, and Rector may have seen too many complaints on the guy already.

Well, I live in goverment housing. I get a gov't check twice a month. I kill people for a living and I carry a gun. Other than that, I'm pretty tame with a boring "life style".

It's not necessarilly about the "run in", per se. He could just be a little more personable and not try to strong arm people with his blue uniform. Ironically, I was working for the US Department of Justice at the time. When he saw my DOJ ID in my wallet, he left me alone. It should never have to come to that. People should be treated humanely unless they cross the line.

I watched the interview with the accusers roommate and she said her roomie told her she was setting the officer up. She said she couldn't go into detail due to being part of the investigation but did mention something about her roomies many traffic tickets. Regardless of the outcome on the sexual abuse charge, he's most likely in the soup over hauling the girls home thing. On the other hand, I'm not in LE and don't know the rules on that.

You're right, Nancy--this guy is going to get in trouble for treating his patrol car like a public taxi for his friends, and well he should. Taxpayers aren't paying his salary and the gas for the car so he can shirk his duties and hang out with his friends (DUH!) And I also firmly believe that this guy was flirting with these women, at the very least. Let's just put it this way--if I found out my husband was using his patrol car to give drunken women friends (and friends of friends) rides home from parties in the middle of the night and then hugging them goodnight, he'd have a size-9 sandal so high up his butt he'd have to have it surgically removed.

As a former Paramedic, I can tell you un-founded complaints and allegations of wrongdoing are a part of the job. If you are an emergency responder, you can bet your bottom dollar that at some time in your career someone will file a complaint against you that is un-founded.

Whether it is motivated by financial gain or revenge for an old high school slight, the potential is ALWAYS there. It is for this reason, most emergency responders go out of their way to NEVER (ever) put themselves into a position where there are no witnesses (or video) to bolster their claim of innocence.

As it pertains to female transports, department policy all across the nation insist whenever a female is transported (for any reason) the dispatcher is to be notified at the start and conclusion of the transport. In addition, as a further precaution, the emergency responder is required to give beginning and ending mileage to the dispatcher so the time and distance can be evaluated should a complaint arise.

Personally, I find it strange and tragic that any time a known convict is arrested, they are innocent until proven guilty. Yet, when an emergency responder is arrested, he/she is treated as though they are guilty until proven innocent.

Ok, interesting, now he has his friend going to the media and basically call her a liar. She claims she is not taking sides, but yet slams her now EX roomate.
From what his dad posted on the blog, and from this incident, it is very clear that he has impaired judgement. Why would he admit on a pre text phone call he inappropriately touched this chick and APOLOGIZED. Mr. Luff's family and friends need to quit bashing this chick in the media and if infact he is innocent, he will be found that way. BPD Isn't just going to have a single item of evidence to submit to the DA's office and then the DA file.. I personaly think the actions of Ms. Nino are disgusting and she better watch herself for libel and slander...

Only by chance I stumbled onto that article on the CNN site. I thought it interesting that both events (the confession and the alleged assault here in Bakersfield). Happened on the same day.

Latter I used it while addressing Curts remark about first responders always considered guilty.

But!

Let’s just imagine what would have happened if Luff expected to only take one women home when he returned to pick up Nino at the party..

We have had LE in Kern County found guilty of murder while on duty, A number of prostitutes in one instance.

There are enough what if’s in this case that no one should question the firing of this guy.
