Best pancakes in town — where might they be? - Restaurant reviews, dishes, recipes, and more - DineNDish's Blog - Bakersfield.com

We are going to start asking "where can I" questions again.

So today's is where can I get the best pancake in town?

And do you like them fat or thin, with regular syrup or the rainbow of flavors out there?

I don't eat pancakes that often, but if I deliberately go out to have some, I will go to IHOP every time. Love the choices of the syrups.

24th Street Cafe has some good ones, as does Zingos and Cindy's. Of the "chain"s, it's tough to go wrong with IHOP. If I'm making them at home, I always throw in some vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Topped with Grade B maple syrup, of course.

I add vanilla flavor to the batter, and I spread chunky peanut butter on them rather than butter.

Pancakes are certainly NOT pancakes! Some are doughy and dry, too thick, too thin, burned on one side, crisp around the edges, non absorbant for syrup, made with "specialty" ingredients that may or may not taste good(a place in Tehachapi used to put jalepeno powder in theirs, it was DISGUSTING!). As a man who eats breakfast out almost every day of the week, I am very in tune with differences many people would not notice. I don't know if that makes me a connissuer(sp), but it makes me experienced!
