Thai Food in Bakersfield - Restaurant reviews, dishes, recipes, and more - DineNDish's Blog - Bakersfield.com

So I've tried Siam Dish over on Ming and Stine. And I have to say I wasn't impressed with the dish I had nor the experience of the restaurant. The only Thai food restaurant I have tried and will compare other restaurants too is Royal Thai in San Luis Obispo. I used to live in San Luis Obispo when I was going to college and I swear nothing has ever compared to how great of a place that restaurant is. So my question is, are there any thai food places that are worth going too? If so, please explain what you've had and your experience (good or bad). I have been craving some really good thai food since I've moved back to Bakersfield and since my experience with Siam Dish I've given up hope.

Feb 26, 2007 at 08:02 PM : If you are willing to...

If you are willing to travel a bit, the Thai Palms on South Street in Old Town Tehachapi is absolutely wonderful, and worth the drive. The food is great and plentiful, the prices excellent (nothing over eleven bucks). The menu is extensive, and if you ask the proprietress to make you one of her Thai favorites, she will come out with something that is authentic Thai, unique, and absolutely delicious. Only the regulars know she does these wonderful special orders. After dinner, you can go across the parking lot to Domingo's for happy hour, and even karaoke on Wednesdays. Make an evening of it!

There is a new Thai restaurant in town that I tried a couple of weeks ago. It was very good, but the service could have been better. It is in a new strip mall just west of the intersection of Hageman and Calloway. I will try it again.

The new restaurant is owned by the people that also own the The Thai Garden on Brundage across from the Pantry. They have a new name , maybe Thai House. They are from Bangkok. I go to Thailand 3-4 times a year for about 2 months each time. The food is prepared as you will find in the villages and stalls in and around Bangkok. The chef cooks country style and all that I've eaten at the one on Brundage is great. When they prepare the food in the village or stall it is not about service but about cooking for a friend. I love wandering Thailand and looking for new things to eat. Fried bats, rat on a stick, grub (big worms) and other exciting finds. Yum Yum

I think that Thai Cuisine on Brundage near Holtby has very good food. They need to spruce the place up a bit, they need some more help and a little more organization, but the food is excellent. Apparently it is now run by a family, and Mom and Dad (or Grandma and Grandpa?) are cooking. The soups are especially wonderful. I have eaten there three times in six weeks and have not been disappointed with anything I've tried.

Singa Thai on California & Stockdale is probably the best thai place in town. I usually get pad prik or any of the curries. I have been there now about 10 times. I love the food. Recommend this place in town.

I think some would agree with me that Thai food is better than Chinese! I love Chinese, but Thai is my favrorite.

I'd have to disagree, with ya, Serrena. I love the food that Thai House (formally Siam Dish) serves. It's right around the corner from me, which makes it convenient. There's another one on California (forgot the name) I enjoyed, only my Param had broccolli instead of spinach (it was during the e. coli scare).

I love having Chicken Param (with lots of xtra spinach and peanut sauce). It's SO addicting. And if you haven't tried Thai iced tea, you're missing out, espcially if you have a "sweetooth."
