I hate squirrels... - B.com Photo Blog - PhotoBlogger's Blog - Bakersfield.com

...but they sure do make for a good photographic opportunity.
These little punks are all over the place. Do you have squirrels? I can't stand them. They're constantly mating, and when they're not mating they're doing their mating call, which is a high-pitched squeak. They do it all day long, and they dig holes all over the pasture. Ugh...they're terrible.
Do squirrels really serve any purpose in this world? I don't see them doing any good things around here. When I was out taking pictures of them yesterday, I noticed that one squirrel was standing there grabbing grain from the foliage with its grimey little claws. Its mouth was full of grain, I'm sure, but I never got close enough to check.
Down with the squirrel population! ...Right?
--Robin
P.S. This is last week's post. I couldn't get the pictures to load and the room was hot, so I gave up on posting. I'm sorry about that.
P.P.S. I had two finals to take last week and we had to clean for a bereavement at our house on Saturday. I kind of had a busy week. My apologies to the faithful PhotoBlogger readers!

I'm off to bed now. It will likely be a long while before I wake up and get back on the computer again. Au revoir!

When I had an apartment off Panorama a few years ago this squirrel would come through the hole in our patio fence and eat my herb plants. Then he ate my tomatoes. But you know what? He was really cute, so I bought some nuts and sort of tamed him, and he would come hang out on my patio all day and and scamper around, and I just adored him. The only regret I had about moving out of that apartment was leaving that squirrel.

He was proud of me when I could nail them square between the eyes. I felt a small pang of remorse each time, but as he explained those trees were my future. Turns out I am a squirrel murder, that received no earthly reward. Father lost it all due to,well, being a farmer. LOL.

Very funny, guys. Great picture, Chico.

I don't have the heart to shoot squirrels, even though I live in the middle of nowhere and should be able to do it, because I love animals so much. They are cute, though. That's the problem. But they're all over the place. They drive me insane. I see them running across the driveway all throughout the day just to get to the other pasture...or back on the one they're living on. Dumb. "The grass is always greener on the other side." Apparently, that applies to the small animals, too. On the other hand, though, my two brothers have NO problem shooting the squirrels. While I do not want to do the shooting myself, I can stand there and watch my brothers do it.

When I was at CSUB one day last year, I was standing on campus and I noticed that the squirrels there have a reddish-orange tinge to them and look different. Are those the tree squirrels who only live in the city? Because I've never been exposed to city squirrels before...ha ha ha. I had no idea there was more than one kind of squirrel.

Oh, Cat, I'm sorry.

Woof, that little guy sure is a cutie -- even if he does have a stuffed squirrel in his mouth. Sigh. Ha ha. I love CALM. I haven't been there for a year, and before that I hadn't been there for many years.

That incessant squeak is enough to drive you bats, but they kill everything in the garden...except, of course, for the weeds. I lost six cherry trees and several grape vines to those vermin, and countless flowers. And the holes are terrible on horses. I like to put Alka Seltzer in the holes. The squirrels love it and it kills them. The pellet gun is fun too; reminds me of target practice w/ my dad. (***evil laugh***)
