I slowed down for someone trying to merge into traffic. The guy behind me flipped me off.

I saw a bumper sticker that said "Honk if you love Jesus". I honked. The driver flipped me off.

I let the person behind me at the grocery store with just two items in front of me; not so much as a nod of thanks.

I stopped to help somebody who's car had overheated. I gave them a plastic bottle and showed them where there was water flowing in an irrigation ditch. They asked if I wouldn't mind filling the bottle

Should I just give up?

I drove through Wyoming once, and you are right. Everybody on the highway waved..... all three of them. Kind of like getting your flipping off done in bunches of 5. Flip 15 people off by waving at just 3. We could learn something here..

Ok I tend to agree with the Rude comment about this area. Not only in Oildale either.I came here from the East coast and never in my travels have I found a more bunch of unhappy and basically rude ppl.Traveing on the bus system there is not a friendly face there and to say " hi Good Morning " is out of the question cuz all you get back is a blank stare.Same thing in the afternoon.Walking around is just as bad you cant ask questions for directions with out knowing which to ask cuz they all have the same sour face look, Does anyone around here know how to smile and be courteous? Do they actually believe they are better than others, when they so obviously arent? Came here witht he intent of working and meeting new ppl but it dont seem like I want to live in a place with Rude and Unfriendly ppl.

I was stopped in traffic once on hwy 58. Everyone was stopped. I think there was a wreck ahead. The lady in front of me and her daughter turned around in their seats and put their hands out the window flipping me off. I was like, what on earth is their problem? I had no idea. When traffic started going again, they moved to the lane next to me and were screaming and flipping me off. By this time I had totally lost my temper. I motioned for them to pull over so they did. I rolled my window down to ask what the heck was wrong with them. They said I had no reason to follow so close to their bumper. I asked if she noticed that all the traffic was stopped. Her daughter then told me to lick her --------. I told the mom she must be so proud to have a filthy mouthed daughter. They were totally looney.

With the exception of driving LA people are friendly? They are at work for 9:00 hours (counting lunch), sleeping at home for 8:00 hours and stuck on the 405 (aka driving) the rest of the time. So what you are saying is that they are friendly when they are behaving at work or asleep?

I once rented a uhaul truck from the one in oildale - they were the only one with the size I needed - it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. It was a stick shift I think from the 40's. Oh, and 2nd gear didn't work. It was noisy and slow and the most embarassing thing I have ever driven. Thank God I only had to take one load.

L.A. people friendly? Either it depends, or things have changed for the better.

When I lived there, if you needed your car fixed, you'd better bring an attitude from hell, ready to pick a fight -- a real one -- because just about every mechanic in town was a who-gives-a-s#it a-hole.

Go to a specialty shop? Be ready to argue with the person "serving" you. Infamous example: George's Photo Shop in Thousand Oaks. As often as not, if you came in wanting to buy something, the owner -- the owner! -- would actually start yelling at you, arguing with you, "what do want that for??" How he stayed inbusiness 12 years, I have no idea. Some of these little L.A. area shops... you'd better be ready for a g-damned fight.

That being said, as far as Bako is concerned, is there something in the air this year?? In the past I could sing in places in considerable safety. This year, I'm finding myself breaking up fights.

Even I'm not immune to a hideous temper this year. A week ago, I started a left turn 'round 8AM with the sun screaming in my eyes... No traffic accident, thank God, but yeah, it was my fault... I didn't see the very dark vehicle who already had the right of way because of the sun.

Asshole swore at me... I damn near hung a U and took off after him. But then I talked sense into myself... "No, no, just walk away... It's not worth it... Besides, you'll be late for work."

What is it this year? Whatever it is, it's even affecting me.

I know! We'll all walk into the Uhaul and ask for the same truck. Then we'll start bidding on it until one of us is offering 4 to 5 times what it would normally rent for. Then, after everybody else leaves, the person who won the bid can say. "oops, I thought this was Ryder" and walk out.

What is it with Uhaul dealerships and rudeness? My sister recently moved and the woman at Uhaul was a total you know what. There's no complaining to the management though, she said she was the owner. Maybe someone here knows her? if you do, or if she reads this...you need to start treating your customer better lady.
