Our large dog uses the open toilet bowl as her watering dish, so we don't have the option not to flush each time.

I have been in hundreds of bathrooms in houses and apartments lived in by Mexican Nationals. They don't toss the "used" toilet paper, after doing #2, into the toilet. They toss it into the trash can. We found out it was a cultural thing. But not our culture.

Yes, when I went to Mexico there were signs saying not to flush the paper. I think his has something to do with a shoddy sewar system.

There use to be these things you could put in the tank that would make it so it wouldn't fill up all the way,and even if you flushed, you wouldn't use so much water. Even a brick would have worked.

While dining at my oldest son's house (when we actually saw each other), he started talking about how his toilet got clogged up. It would be costly to have fixed so he decided to fix it himself. He spared us some of the details, while we gulped down whatever we had just put in our mouths.

He told us how he turned off the water, removed the toilet bowl, and proceeded to get whatever was in there clogging it up. He'd remembered how he'd lost his patience, and turned to his girlfreind every fifteen minutes or so and hurled nasty words at her for putting stuff in there that shouldn't be.

I felt a bit like losing my dinner about then, especially after he mentioned digging out chocolate bars.

So appetizing..NOT. LOL

Anyway, his girlfreind was from China. She was use to tossing almost anything into the toilet, even bones. I guess the pipes there are much bigger. I don't know.

i have to flush everytime cause i have a 15 month old who loves to stick his hands in the toilet when i am not looking right at him. lol. recently he flushed a hair clip down there and i almost had to have a new one put in, luckily the maintainence guys think im cool so they worked hard on getting it down the rest of the way. but at night when he's asleep i try not to flush everytime,but it's habit.

Only at night time, when my parents are asleep, I do not flush. Only because I don't want to wake them and really don't want my dad to come out in his underwear wondering what the noise is. At school, I occasionally come across a toilet that hasn't been flushed (mostly yellow; occasionally brown) and I put my foot on the handle and flush it. If I don't, no one else will, infact they will avoid that toilet completely, and If you are a woman you know there is always a line in ladies room, and one less stall is one more wait. :D

I'll admit that during the night I don't flush every time either. And when company comes over unexpectedly I rush in to make sure I flushed after the last use. Thankfully I have no kids or dogs who drink from the toilet. Mine have always used a water bowl. The dogs..not the kids. :-)

When my daughter come to visit she brings her boxer who uses the toilet for a waterbowl then drools so it's a little unsettling to sit on the seat after she's been drinking.

The Hispanic thing of putting used toilet paper in the trash instead of down the hole, I have only encountered in Bakersfield. They don't do that in South Texas were I grew up.

Some are used to Leach lines and septic tanks and if you've ever had to dig one out due to being plugged up........But they have those in South Tejas too........Not real sanitary I admit but in rural areas you see it and not just Hispanics.........Don't have the answer, just some possibles........

I learned the if it's yellow it's mellow motto on the coast~ we even had a sign up for visitors explaining . I still practice that,till the dogs moved in ,now that thery are gone it is back to water conservation...but up to a limit. With only two of us here, it has to get flushed sometime.

Several of the tourist areas here in Boston now have flushless urinal that don't require water. Very clean and eco friendly (no smell either).
