Tehachapi soldier Matt McCool, who was injured in Iraq by a roadside bomb, is recovering in Germany and may be transferred to the U.S. soon.
McCool has been blogging at The Tehachapi News about his experiences in Iraq. His dad is providing news about his condition on his own blog.
He was "joking with his buddies" despite his injuries, Channel 23 reports.
Earlier this month, he had re-enlisted in the Army for four more years, his dad said in a recent blog post.
Here's wishing him the best of luck.

Matt as always we pray for you daily along with praying for our own children. You have given us so many memorable moments through the years. Remember your doom and gloom days and then the cloak and dagger days? How about when you were sure the van we were traveling in was going to blow up on us? I wanted to sedate you! (LOL) Then there were those ferrets you loved so much. Remember bring one for talent night and scaring the heck out of us? You were and still are someone special. Special in our eyes and in God's. You know the whole town of Tehachapi is pulling for you. Your one of our own so it really touches the people personally. Many people here in Tehachapi now are taking a closer look at what is going on over there and have become more pro active as a result to our own home town boy's serving and doing there duty. You have been put on so many prayer changes the hot line to heaven is lit up. You keep the faith and your spirits up. You are our hero!!! Love you and care about you Matt...Mrs. Davis
Hey Matt,... Have you seen any ferrets in your bed. Watch Out! Well, my friend, you certainly know how to get people's attention. Hope the Army medical folks are taking good care of you. Many people here in Tehachapi are keeping you in prayer each day. We have many serving in the armed forces around the world and all are constantly in our prayers. Hope it doesn't hurt too much when you smile or laugh. Matt, God is watching out over you and He obviously has something more in store for you since He brought you through this fiery trail. In February I attended a memorial service for a WWII veteran in Bakersfield. He related to many over the years an incident which he survived while under enemy fire on the beach during the battle for Guam. He was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire on the beach and as he was laying on his back in the hot Pacific sun, he made the following vow' "Lord, if you get me safely off this beach I'll serve you forever". Well he woke up four days later on a hospital ship and survived the war. He kept his vow and went on to serve as a Baptist Pastor for the next 60+ years. Many here at Country Oaks are keeping you and all our military folks throughout the world in prayer. God was not ready to take you home yet and He obviously has a very special purpose in store for your life. Matt, as you know, I served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman with the Marines in Viet Nam. I was one of the real fortunate ones who did not receive any enemy fire combat wounds. I came under rocket and mortar attacks and was even shot at a few times. (Close, but no cigar). The point being, God takes us when He is ready. You are very fortunate in that you still have your life and you are probably still the same good looking man you were prior to the incident. God has you in His watch care and His hands. Our prayer is that you heal quickly and wholely. Our God is totally awesome and can see you through is fiery trial. Phil.4:13 is the source of our strength. Rest easy my man and know that many are praying for you each day. I am very proud to hear that you have re-upped for another hitch. Get as much education and training as you possibly can. The Army will pay for much more now than the G.I. Bill did for me when I used it for college. Be brave and of good cheer. As the Apostle Paul told Timothy... Be ready in season and out...". Encourage those who are less fortunate than you. God is ready to use you in a mighty way. We love you Matt and are looking foreword to seeing you when you next visit. Best of everything in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Roger, (a.k.a. Mr. Davis).
