Overshadowed Celebrity Deaths - Dr BLT's Blog n Roll Studio - blognroll's Blog - Bakersfield.com

John Ritter's death received 15 minutes of fame. His death was overshadowed by that of none other than The Man in Black. Johnny Cash passed away the following day. Who could possibly compete with that?
Recently, Ed McMahon's death was eclipsed by that of Farrah Fawcett. Then their deaths were both trumped by the King of Pop. My good friend Walter also pointed out these: Jackie Gleason died 6/22/87, two days after Fred Astaire.
Do you have a celebrity in mind that you think deserved more recognition in death, but one that was robbed of that entitlement due to the death of somebody with a higher profile? Do you have a friend or loved one that passed away on the same day as the death of a big celeb, or on the same day as a major news story, and their death was overshadowed accordingly. Well, here's your chance to give that cherished celeb, or personal loved one the praise, adoration and kudos you feel he/she/they deserve.
This is a viritual memorial ceremony for those lost in the shadows of bigger, and ostensibly more significant deaths. Here's my contribution to the shrine. Post yours below, in the form of songs, poems, comments, memories and reflections.
It is Well, with My Soul: Dr BLT
Lyrics (traditional); new melody by Dr BLT copyright 2009

Dr. BLT: Just a comment. Death seems to run in threes. First there was McMahon, then Fawcett; I asked my husband who would be next. Then as you know, we all got the answer to that.

Of course, there are deaths all the time every minute of every hour of every day, but it does seem to me anyway that certain deaths come in threes. Deaths of people you know, or deaths of the famous. This was a good example.

Local news, network news, cabel news...none have had much to say about what's going on in the world. Yesterday, Today opened with a "special edition" about Michael Jackson. Did you know that he died? After yet another trailer of Thriller, I turned off the tube.

I hope he gets buried soon. Then reporters can get back to reporting trivial stuff like the economy, the next jobless statistics, Iran, Iraq, immigration reform, health care reform...and what all this will do to Michael Jackson's family and children.
