It's really just an effort to give credit where credit is&nbsp;due.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her&nbsp;writing flows like poetry&nbsp;and, as such, it represents the ideal muse for new&nbsp;song material.&nbsp; Without her&nbsp;recent articles on Vern Hoover,&nbsp;the owner of Trout's who recently passed away, it would have been much more difficult to add substance to this song.&nbsp; recordNeedle.jpg web Bakersfield SoundOFF: Will the new traditionalists of Kern County country music stand up? http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/blognroll/32198 http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/blognroll/32198 <p>It's the people that make up a city, not the buildings.&nbsp; And it's folks like Vern that built Kern.&nbsp; Bakersfield is a city, not made up of stones, but of singers, and of songwriters, and of songs.&nbsp;</p> <p>That's where the new traditionalists, or, if you prefer, the new romantics, come in.&nbsp; We're building a new sound on the foundation that's build supported by folks like Vern Hoover, the owner of Trout's who just passed away.&nbsp;</p> <p>Our&nbsp;sound is&nbsp;a work in progress and a sound in the making.&nbsp; I call our sound nu bako, AmeriKERNa, or Krock (Kern County Country Rock).&nbsp; It's still an evolving sound, and is still lacking in easy-to-define dinstictive characteristics.&nbsp; We are a new breed, planting an old seed.&nbsp; Each of us has one boot dug deeply in the ground of the Bakersield Sound and one boot kicking high towards the sky, representing the future of Kern County country music.&nbsp;</p> <p>We are the new traditionalists. &nbsp;We're the new romantics.&nbsp; We're loosely knit, but nicely fit into a futuristic old sound---an old twang with a new twist.&nbsp; We refuse to bury the past, and we have a deep appreciation for those who built our county music and our city of sound, but won't let it be the final chapter.&nbsp; We believe that our best way to pay tribute to the pioneers of the past, and the engineers of those pioneers is to follow in their footsteps and to create new music in their honor.&nbsp;</p> <p>Buckshot is the ideal band to foreshadow the future of Kern County country rock.&nbsp; Members include two generations, one whose father was Buck&nbsp;Owens himself.&nbsp; Hank Ray is also standing up bravely to the challenge.&nbsp;&nbsp; Dusk Devils have been carrying on the tradition, as have Iron Outlaws and, in a bakobilly sort of way, Fatt Katt and the Vonzippers.&nbsp;</p> <p>These are true new traditionalists. &nbsp;But I&nbsp;know there are more of us out there.&nbsp; The Bakersfield sound pioneers, and the engineers of those pioneers are slowly passing away, one by one.&nbsp; Some call them dinosaurs. &nbsp;I call them legendary story-tellers and heroes of sound.&nbsp; Who will be around to pick up where they left off and to keep their legacies alive?</p> <p>Stand up and be counted, new traditionalists, wherever you are.&nbsp; Kern County country rockers, cowboy up and ride.&nbsp; The sun is setting on a new tomorrow.&nbsp; Will you be there when &quot;the sun also rises&quot;?&nbsp;</p>

 GeorgeJonesBook.jpg book publisher Update on Chad Vegas interview http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/blognroll/32154 http://people.bakersfield.com/home/Blog/blognroll/32154 <p>For those of you who have taken an interest in the impact of Chad Vegas, for better, or for worse, on this community, I wish to provide an update on my recent interview with him.</p> <p>The interview is complete. &nbsp;I&nbsp;have begun to approach prospective sources to see about getting this published.&nbsp; So far, I've remained local in my inquiries.&nbsp; I've been a paid writer for about 10 years, but only have one paid gig going.&nbsp; I'm experienced and&nbsp;frequently published, but far from being a professional writer.&nbsp;</p> <p>I&nbsp;have&nbsp;interviewed the likes of some pretty high profile individuals like Barry McGuire, Stephen Pearcy, The Quarrymen, Pat Boone, and....did I mention Pat Boone?&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, the list is admittedly&nbsp;a rather pretty short one in terms of high profile interviewees.&nbsp; And by high profile, we're obviously not taking McCain, Obama or Paris Hilton :)</p> <p>The Quarrymen is the skiffle band out of England that spawned the Beatles.&nbsp; For those who have fallen asleep, or have otherwise fallen behind on their Beatles trivia, Paul and John (God rest his soul) are no longer in that band, as they are no longer in the Beatles.&nbsp;</p> <p>Notwithstanding <em>Bullfrogs and Butterflies</em>, some would consider Barry &quot;Eve of&nbsp;Destruction&quot;&nbsp;McGuire a one-hit-wonder, though having a hit reach number one world-wide certainly puts the &quot;wonder&quot;&nbsp;in one-hit-wonder.&nbsp; Pearcy made national headlines with his controversial Bush-bashing art in the middle of the present decade, but his moment in the sun appears to be fading away.&nbsp;</p> <p>Pat Boone was the only competition Elvis Presley's people kept an eye on in the fifties, and he's not only scored big as a recording artist, but has been in the movies too.&nbsp;</p> <p>You'll find links to most of these interviews here:</p> <p>http//www.drblt.net</p> <p>As for Chad Vegas?&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, for better or worse, he's certainly stirred things up in this community.&nbsp; Whether that will generate any interest in getting my interview published remains to be seen.&nbsp;</p> <p>If I don't find a local publisher, I'll probably just end up blogging it.&nbsp;</p> <p>Either way, you will see it in print or on the screen in the near future.&nbsp;&nbsp; As for the Heading for Vegas soundtrack?&nbsp;&nbsp;Well, it appears that, even with the apparent airplay that <em>Hanging Chad </em>received, the enthusiasm for that project seems to have waned just a bit on my part.&nbsp; There's a reason.&nbsp; I'm just not sure the reason will ever be revealed.&nbsp; If the soundtrack does come out, it may include a few surprises.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
