How many believe that the Taliban are hoping Obama wins this election? I tried to imagine what they might compose if they were to express their sentiments in a shout-out for Obama. I think they might take Billy Joel's Piano Man and turn it into something like this:

Reid between the Lines: Why does he always look so stern?

I guess things could be even worse than the propsect of an Obama/Biden ticket. Can you imagine a ticket with these two "winners" on it? His name is Harry, not Howard, so why does he always seem to look so pathetically stern?

Welcome to the lastest installment in the blog n roll series, Lyric Today, Hear it Tomorrow. In continuing with the bitter parisan spirit I've been projecting since I fell off of the bipartisan wagon, I'm going to go after Harry Reid.

Nancy always has that forced, fake smile on her face, but at least she's trying to appear happy and affable. Why does Harry Reid always look like he's attending a funeral of a close friend? Come on Harry, lighten up a little? This is not the end of the world, just a bailout, designed to save the butts of some of your closest fat-cat friends.

Oh Nancy! Why is a non-partisan like me unabashedly bashing Pelosi in this rock song?

I was doing great in my self-imposed partisan recovery program, but I fear I've fallen off the wagon. When I heard Nancy Pelosi's bitterly partisan diatribe in the midst of the delicate bail-out negotiations last week, it was if she reached out, grabbed me and yanked me off the wagon, forcing me to get caught back up in the partisan bickering I have so vehemently opposed in recent weeks.

For all of you let's-all-join-hands-and-sing Kumbaya non-partisans (all two of you) out there, I assure you, I'll be back on the wagon soon. In the meantime, I hope you are either delighted (if you're a Republican partisan), or are bitterly disgusted with it, if you happen to be a partisan Pelosi-loving liberal. You're all a bunch of partisans. You deserve what you get :)

Everything is Fallin' Apart (The Humpty Dumpty Song): I hope I'm wrong about the economy.

I'm usually the type to see the glass as half full, but as it concerns the state of the economy, and the artificial hope offered by the so-called "Bailout Plan," I'm not feeling very optimistic--at least I wasn't when I wrote this song. I hope I'm wrong.

Deal or no deal? Apparently, nobody asked House Republicans

Some tried to give the impression it was in the bag, that a deal had been made on the big bail-out plan. Apparently that was political posturing to make it look like McCain would not be needed. Now some are blaming McCain for not participating in the discussion, while, at the same time, ruining everything.

Now, I wish I had that kind of power, where I could just walk in a room in the White House, sit down, and completely unravel a done deal.

Nobody asked House Republicans if it was a deal, and apparently, being the conservatives that they are, they are not into the government having this sort of collosal control. Apparently, they realize that there is nearly zero public support for the original plan, only overwhelming public outrage. So they've come up with a plan of their own, one they believe makes more sense.

Now, we're left with the lingering question, Deal or No Deal? Time is ticking. Time will tell if there will be a deal, and, if so, what that deal will look like. Time will tell as to who will be smelling like a rose and who will be smelling like a skunk. If you ask me, it all smells like Washington.

Welcome to And I Quote...Excerpts from the Dr. BLT Interviews. I'm Dr. BLT, and I'll be your host for Excerpt #2 of the Chad Vegas interview and the moderator for the discussion to follow.

Based on the following interview excerpt, it appears that while stealing campaign signs is considered a serious violation of the law in this county, and, indeed in this nation, others would like to see much more harm done to Chad Vegas than sign-stealing. This recent incident involving a local radio personality may be just a sign of a deeper community rage among those who hate Chad Vegas. This is excerpt 2 from my recent interview with Chad Vegas. Dr. BLT: What comes to mind when folks in this community, (at least the more liberal members of this community) hear your name are basically three issues: Your opposition to the sanctioning of gay marriage; your drive to get posters in schools that include the motto; In God we Trust (at taxpayers expense, to the dismay of some); and your drive to bring back Christmas and Easter vacation instead of the more politically correct winter and spring vacation.

While some celebrate what they would regard as these "accomplishments," others, (mainly those of an openly liberal perspective), have become so angry that they want to drive you out of public office. Some have been respectful, while others have been downright hostile and hateful. I have referred to the phenomenon as Hanging Chad, a term I borrowed from the 2000 Bush/Gore election debacle to suggest just how far some are willing to go to get you out of public office. Of course I meant that figuratively, so I'm certainly not trying to suggest that you are in any physical danger.

But why do you suppose simply following your Christian beliefs and applying them in a public way gets some people so visceral and eager to strip you of your duties as a public official?

Chad Vegas:

I think people are demonstrating their anger toward the wrong person / governing agency. They are upset with me for putting up our national motto (a 4-1 vote of the board). However, they seem to forget that the job of public schools is to instill citizenship. According to the Congress of the United States, our national motto is "In God we Trust." I suppose people should take their anger to Congress. Further, historically and legally, Christmas is a national holiday. It is on the federal calendar as such. I am in favor of calling holidays what they are. At least two of the other three board members who supported these measures are not Christians. The reason the barrels are pointed at me is because it is known that I am. Did they vote for these measures because they were applying their faith to public policy or shoving their religion down our throats? In fact, the Trustee who first brought both of these issues up is not a Christian, nor does he attend religious services of any other faith. Is he trying to shove his religion down their throats? At some point, people have to become thoughtful enough to realize that the one dimensional characterization the media applies to people is not the whole story. I suppose it is much easier to box someone up under a particular label and throw bombs, than it is to understand them. I have certainly fallen prey to this temptation before.

By the way, I am fairly certain I am in possible physical danger. I have seen at least one fanatic light himself on fire. I have received threats. I have had at least one stalker. This is the cost of standing for something.

Abandoning the sinking "Partisan Ship" feels good. Would you like to try it? Go ahead. Jump ship.

It's relaxing, you make fewer enemies, you're subject to less stress, and you make just as much of a difference in the world, perhaps even more of a difference. All you have to do is keep your impulses in check, and keep your strongest, most emotionally-charged opinions to yourself while in the midst of mixed political company. That's the passive part. The active part includes looking for common ground between yourself and your oponents and offering ways that that common ground can become a foundation for accomplishing great things.

Ex Blink 182 drummer/recovering plane-crash survivor, took Bakersfield sound to a new generation

Travis Barker, is a former drummer for the popular alt pop band, Blink 182. He participated in an historic Buck Owens tribute event that helped bring the Bakersfield sound to a new generation of fans. He was recently a survivor in a terrible plane crash.
