State social services should be able to extend birth control to clients (i.e. welfare moms and teens). Birth control and contraception should not be excluded from bail-out funds for states. As to "hundreds of millions" of dollars for family planning or issuing birth control for the sole purpose of reducing costs, I don't quite follow the rationale. Madam Speaker would have made more sense if she said to prevent unwanted pregnancy of those who can least afford it.

learnem, there are children in foster care today who are available for adoption and no one is adopting them. Locally, they had that photography exihibit at various businesses last year to raise awareness to this fact. A home for every unwanted, neglected or abused child is not going to magically appear if you take away welfare and contraceptives from the poor. And those who love and want their children, but are in bad financial straights are not going to magically find jobs that sustain their families if welfare, WIC or food stamps is taken away from them. It's a nice fantasy, but not very practical or realistic.

I think this would be a great idea to help our state. I've always argued on the real cost to our state caused by our bleeding liberal hearts. We try to help everyone, even if they enter this country illegally. Of course the counter argument has always been that my lawn care would go through the roof. But, between incarceration rate, health care, insurance and other costs to the state, what is the real net cost to our state? I guess we'll never know because no one, including Arnold, will ever have the guts to secure our border.

My point here is that this reminded me too much of commie china - they called it planned parenthood also.

BTW, did you see the one about the golf tax? I read somewhere our tax could go up to possibly 9.25% (highest in the nation).

The myth of the "welfare mother with the cadillac" has thoroughly indoctrinated folks to where they can no longer recognize the truth: AFDC has helped millions of kids, with less abuse than, say, your typical no-bid defense contract. I assume it makes you feel superior to look down on those who have had to accept public assistance. Maybe that psychological boost is yet another benefit.

Well RF you don't know me nor do you know my past efforts to not have to go on the dole - and yes in my 63 years there were a couple of times the dole looked good, but I rearranged my priorities and even lied to get a job. So, buster, don't even go there OK.

My mother worked in the welfare dept. My sister-in-law currently works in the welfare dept. The "myth" as you put it is NO myth. Can you afford a fairly new F-150 p/up with customized paint job? I sure can't. Can you afford the big boom boxes in the trunk of a customized car? The wheels that spin (At $200 each)? The mechanical stuff that makes the car 'bounce'? Me either. Are all those people on welfare? Probably not but when they don't have jobs don't you wonder where they get the $$$ for all those perks? I do. Then follow them to the hovel they live in - section 8? Priorities are a bit screwed doncha think?

Have you been there done that RF? I worked at B.C. and interacted with several students who had children and were getting welfare - those students utilized the money as it was intended - to get an education, get a job, get off welfare. AND THEY DID.

Then there was the married couple who had 4 kids, on welfare, food stamps, medi-cal and had another child, all while also taking financial aid from the college. Did either one of them graduate? nope. Yet they drove a better car then I did and the husband wore 3-piece suits my husband couldn't afford. They had their disabled child in free day care then "forgot " to go pick him up. CPS was called and the couple called CPS 'raciest' for 'picking on them.

There are thousands who just take, take, take, even though the opportunity to do better is offered they do not take that.

Do I sound angry? You're damn right I am RF. I'm sick to death of excuses made for these lazy arse people and now obama wants to give them more??? NOT.

maybe AFDC has helped millions of kids eat, but if their parents werent such pieces of crap, they wouldnt need it. Sorry to also say that the number of people whose parents are on AFDC actually move on from the role of welfare is small....stuff movies are made from....it is done, but on a miniscule basis.

all welfare and social programs do is reward people for making bad decisions in their lifetime.

if you were to step from your high horse once in awhile and visit the social security office the welfare office, your local public school during breakfast and lunch, you would see the things i speak of, instead of thinking you know it all
