Why is a Border Patrol story the most read today? - My blog - dmchenry's Blog - Bakersfield.com

During our morning news meeting each day we look at the stats for Bakersfield.com to see what you all are reading. It helps us figure out what you all are really interested in (of course it's not the only measuring stick we use.)

Well this morning, sitting at the top of the list -- with five times as many page views as the next story -- was an Associated Press story on a Border Patrol agent shooting and killing someone crossing the border illegally.

Normally our wire stories get much lower traffic than our local stories. So when one jumps to the top it's usually a big hint that some site is linking to our story. Some site with a big audience.

Sometimes it's Fark.com.

Today it is WorldNetDaily. If you haven't heard of WorldNetDaily, check out their wikipedia entry.

Fark has become both a proper noun (which itself was made as an alternative for another four-letter "f" word), as well as an adjective when they link to a site, and the linked server crashes from the sudden increase in traffic.

Have you tried to check why Worldnet linked to your site? How about a link to their site, and their boards so that we can see why for ourselves?

How 'bout the reason is like what Carlos Mencia said....when Mexicans are crossing the border, they'll go up to the Border Patrol and say, "sir, he doesn't speak Spanish". Because they don't want terrorists here either. That's kinda what I get when I read the headline.

I just read the story: I love softball sized ROCK! I guess if you're holding a rock bigger than a golfball, you're gonna die. But, again, it just says "a man", because we're not to assume he's Mexican.

Or is this a good ole media push, to make it sound like we really ARE watching the borders?

Actually the guy was wearing a Dodger shirt with the name Valenzuela on the back and front, so he assumed the guy was accurate with the "rock".
Hey he could have been in Bakersfield holding a cell phone, these guys are dangerous, you never know when they will pull out a short handled hoe and do you in. Beside her in our fine City a cop recently shot a guy holding a knife, the guy had a partner with him and a dog, that will teach you to bring a knife to a gun fight. That is the same with this guy, if you are going to go up against a guy with an assault rifle, you need two rocks at least.
The point is what does it matter this was just a Mexican, and they are in the same category as Iraqis, if you shoot one shoot them all. they are not as good as us after all.
Think of it in the Red Kern way, and just say as our number one Minutemen Lou Dobbs says, "Just one more Mexican that will not steal our money by fleecing the farmers and send it back to Mexico".

Red Kern, you are something else! You say here in town a city cop shot a "guy holding a knife." In truth, the officer shot the suspect, who was armed with a knife, after he sliced the officer's forearm open with the just stolen knife. He also cut the officer's K-9 "partner." This guy was hell bent on getting away, since the night before he broke a man's jaw, and stabbed another man to death a few blocks away.

It is obvious from your usual ranting comments that you have a dislike for law enforcement and the criminal justice system. People like you usually have a "history" with the courts and jails....

Some of my best friends, and relatives too are law enforcement, but why not tell it like it is, this was not the first guy time a guy gets burned and it will not be the last.
As for the other incidents of law breaking, I hope you did not get it from his confession after his knife/gun/dog fight. After a Guy is gone you can say anything about his past deeds, he will never be in court to refute it.
Again the liberal investigative media left off most of the story, thank god for super sleuths like you give us , rest of the story as radio Jock Paul Harvey used to say.
Incidentally I have two German Shepards 122, and 120 lbs, Brutus and Caesar, if they could not bring a guy down, I would send them to the pound.
