Female-only buses in Mexico City, but not Bakersfield - Eye of Bakersfield - eyeofbakersfield's Blog - Bakersfield.com

I was surprised this morning to read about the female-only buses that have begun in Mexico City because of extensive groping and verbal harassment of women on the regular buses.
The problem had to be so bad that extra buses had to be engaged to protect the women.
The city's subway system has long had women-only cars during rush hour.
Associated Press has reported that women-only buses or subways have been rolling for years in India, Brazil, Japan and other countries.
I asked whether GET buses in Bakersfield have had similar complaints. Marketing Manager Gina Hayden said there have been virtually no problems.
The complaint person at GET reports maybe one or two complaints a year and none in the last six months. "It's not an issue here," Hayden said.
Well, that's good. But it still amazes me that too many men in other places disrespect women in such intolerable ways.

I'm not surprised at all. In many cultures, women are considered to be "something less" than men. Education for women is frowned upon, because how smart do you need to be to pop out kids and do what your man tells you to do?

I'm also not surprised that this type of groping is rare in this country. Around here, if you grab a handful of some woman you've never met, there are usually several guys nearby who will make sure you won't be grabbing anything for awhile.

OldBlue ~ why am I not surprised at your lack of surprise? etbartly sure gets your goat doesn't he?

For many hard working "nice" people the bus is a way to get around. The bus is a great for disabled folks (who can't or won't use their door to door service) and makes a viable option to rolling every where. Apparently this is a way for you to classify people ,and that you judge folks so readily, for such, is enlightening.
