His violent death followed by Robert Kennedy's was a tragedy for the country as well as the Kennedy family. Unfortunately, I never gave Ted Kennedy the credit for measuring up to his two brothers. Perhaps that is unfair. Nobody else measured up to the attributes of the two Kennedy brothers. Considering the tragedy that has been inflicted on that family, an elder statesman diagnosed with a tumor is almost a relief. 45 (or about that) years of devotion to serving the country is a lifetime career of public service.
