I'm not going to argue that we shouldn't have used the bomb in Japan, though using it twice in a week was excessive at best. I'd just like to point to the logic that says if they do it or might do it, why can't we? Because we're America and we're better than that. That's what makes us the good guys. By your logic, we should have kept the concentration camps open and started feeding Germans into the ovens. Also, VE day was May 8th, so we weren't worried about the Nazis anymore by the time we dropped the bomb. Force depletion said we'd lose far too many troops in a ground war or at least that was the justification at the time.

As for those neighbors, I hate that kind of stuff. It would be interesting to compile a list of neighbors opinions of the 100 worst criminals in modern history.

While I am too well aware from personal experience as an insider of those attracted to becoming policemen because they want to carry a gun and thump heads behind the authority and protection of a badge, this in no way excuses the human weeds like Sons. It is tragic, and despicable of the D.A.'s office to have abused a like authority in order to get a conviction necessitating an ongoing tragedy. But a civilized society must leave it to our authorities to handle matters, not those like Sons.

President Eisenhower was against the use of "the bomb" in Japan. His rationale was that the Japanese were beaten down at that point in the war and we would only feel the wrath of the world for such a heinous action that would kill and injure thousands. He also warned us about the growing power of the "military industrial complex". This from a former military leader, is very telling in my opinion. We, as bystanders, make our assessments based on the information we are given by the media. That information can be slanted and occasionally missing key elements. Public opinion is just that..opinion. Hindsight is always 20-20.

As for the Bruce Sons article, people are still very emotional about the outcome. I would like to remind people that our DA's office brought this on themselves by allowing Tauzer to manipulate the case in such a manner as to cause the overturning of the original verdict on appeal. Aim your anger in their direction, not at the Californian. Do not shoot the messenger!

On the Sons article, I agree that the Californian is just the messenger, but lets not let this scumbag litter our pages anymore than need be.

And Dusty, are you saying that a jury should release a murderer, if the DA makes a huge snafu, and they did really screw up.
before anyone can make any other issue of it, if the Sons had not grabbed a gun, Officer Maxwell would be alive.
If Officer Maxwell was acting in any type of bad manner, the only reasonable action would be to obey all orders, then file a complaint later if you feel youve been done wrong. no matter whats said in court.
Sons should put himself as far away from Kern County as possible !

Don't you wish it would just go away! This isn't about Sons regaining his rights. It's about poising himself for a huge lawsuit against the county. Just sit back and watch folks. He doesn't give a rat's a&& if he can legally own a firearm or not. My bet is he already has one (or more). This is about a lawsuit and nothing more.
