Ken Weir obviously has more undisclosed ties to the development, growth and building industry that might prove embarassing to him. His past reticence to raise educational development impact fees while serving on the Bakersfield City School Council contributed to that district's need to float a $100 million bond on the taxpayers last election. If he doesn't resign from the Bakersfield City Council then he will probably have to recuse himself from every substantive vote regarding the vital area of the City's growth because of his many conflicts of interest. Resign, or add to your legacy by making us pay the bill for a recall, Mr. Weir.

Times newspaper editorialist that he was really pro-abortion all along after claiming to be pro-life in conservative Kern County! Then there was Jean Fuller...if my memory doesn't fail me...didn't she use state property to announce her bid for the assembly? Isn't that like, kinda illegal? What was her campaign manager's name...o yeah...Mark Abernathy. And now history repeats itself. Enter Ken Weir. Do y'all see a pattern? Who's Weir's political consultant...bingo...you got it... Abernathy. Being deceitful must be a prerequisite for Abernathy to handle you. All I can say is: Bakersfield, you got what you deserve. I don't feel sorry for you. You keep voting these Abernathy candidates into office! You must enjoy the lies and deception and politics as usual. Ken, you might wanna get outta Dodge!

We are now seeing the true side of Ken Weir, a side that was visible all along during his days on the Bakersfield City District School Board. It is bizarre how people blindly elected him to a position of overseeing the education of students all those years, while he used his position to propel himself up the political ladder. An example of a rotten politics of the "campaign machine" was when the character Rick Van Horn supposedly dropped out of the race for school board, and then got back in in the last few weeks with Van Horn and Weir for school board signs mysteriously popping up together at the same time all over town. Since he moved up a rung to city council, he thought he could still play the same type of game. As a school board member, he appeared to be pompous, arrogant, self-serving, and eager to take credit for anything that made headlines, while students of the district languished. Many people moved out of the district or to private schools looking for schools that were not run by wannabe politicians. Look at test scores and compare your neighborhood school to what it was in 1992 if you want to see the true story.

Control Of the city is long been an stepping stone for conservative candidates and especially those who are managed the Abernathy machine. We keep hoping better people will run for public office ; and Rubio and Maggard come to mind. But when you take money from the Developers as these candidates do, you get you what you pay for, and we will be paying taxes for years for undeveloped roads and public services . It is these requirements that these "bought and paid for " office holders who did not stand up and require when the new houses, shopping centers and leapfrog development happened under their watch. Bakersfield is a large city that needs the best elected officials we can find; not pay for. In the next election for County Supervisor or City council, realize that your vote does count and know who the hell you voting for. Next time PICK ONE that has the brains and fortitude to standup for what we really need, not another shopping center and more air pollution.........ITs our part of the planet to take care of. Still picking on Weir, poor man, if he was a liberal would this happen to him?

He has security reasons and in today’s world that is understandable, terrorist might want the information, anything is possible. What kind of a government are we running when we ask an elected official to rat out his friends and benefactors; this is just political association envy. Once this starts Sullivan and Scrivner will have to be honest about their interest and that is not in the interest of good conservative government and should not be done.

Red Kern Hero, this has nothing to do with "ratting" our friends. Rather, it has everything to do with a conflict of interest! Being above board. Being transparent. You can't be paid by a client ($10,000), then go into closed door meetings about business dealing that benefit that client, and then VOTE on the same matter as an elected city official. Comprende! As our city councilmember, Weir is supposed to be unbiased (not beholden) and do what is best for ALL of his constituents...not his big business associate buddies. Again Weir, you need to come clean and step down. Too much water has passed under the bridge!
