I had a temporary loss of sanity and went to look at two left of a litter my co worker had and you can imagine the result.&nbsp; Allie was a 7 week old Lab and quickly became the &quot;baby&quot; of the house.</p> <p>Fannie cam next, a beautiful 2 year old Border Collie rescued from the shelter on Mt Vernon.&nbsp; Best frisbee and ball player around.&nbsp; I had her for four months and she injured her spine (paralyzed) and had to be put down.&nbsp; I looked high and low for a smallish dog....one big enough to play with but small enough to be out of the way.&nbsp; Working the way I did the smaller ones were all gone from the shelter by the time I could get there.&nbsp; I was told they go fast because that's what most people want.&nbsp; Enter Zack.&nbsp; I dropped by the SPCA shelter one day and there he sat.&nbsp; He'd been there for 2 weeks and no one had adopted him.&nbsp; I couldn't figure it out..and still can't.&nbsp; He was a 2 year old Westie Cross...completely house broken, well mannered, and absolutely loves kids.&nbsp; Unlike a lot of terreriers, he's pretty calm until he plays with Allie.&nbsp; They're like Mutt and Jeff but have the best times.</p> <p>Burgler alarms?&nbsp; I have two.&nbsp; I have an indoor and an outdoor alarm system that can't be beat.&nbsp; No one other than family&nbsp;comes near this house that they don't let me know and Allie fiercly protects her back yard.&nbsp; When I first moved in here she even scared the heck out of the lady who lives behind me when the lady filled her bird feeders.</p> <p>I doubt I'd ever get another dog that didn't come from a shelter of some kind.&nbsp;
