Mr. President Speaks to our Youth

Mr. President Speaks to our Youth

It has been a long while since I have written anything so I will keep this short and simple. I have been playing lots of World of Warcraft that is it! No school or work excuses lol.

Our President addressed the young people of this nation, over all it was a good message, stressed the importance of education and science in our nation if we are to continue to prosper and be a relevant force in the world.

I just don’t understand why some of crazy little fundie friends didn’t want their children listening to the president? Something about indoctrinating our children or some garbage like that lol. If we did that to Mr. Bush, you would have Limbaugh, and O’reilly going ape shit on how people that do not listen to the speech hate America, and are unpatriotic. When it’s a president, they don’t like they just go against what they preach.

Much a do about nothing I guess, lol. We all know those fundies are a bunch of hypocrites, I don’t need to remind you all of that.

Why so Grumpy?

Why so rude Mr. Grumpy?

Often times when I’m talking to people, and sharing ideas people say I can be a little aggressive, even rude, or too grumpy. I don’t think that I am being rude. When I tell someone they are wrong, is that rude? Just because you think there is an invisible guy in the sky that watches everything, has the power to stop all the bad things in our life but doesn’t. I tell you that any all evidence seems to point to the fact that he doesn’t exist, is that an insult? If you came up to me and told me that one plus one equals 5. I said to you, well all evidence seems to point to the answer being two. Why would you be offended?

Anyways I don’t get it maybe some of ya can help me out?

I was surfing the web as some would say, came across this pic. I just thought it was funny. I would apologise but it should only be offensive to those who believe the christian nonsense. Oh well enjoy

Isn't This World Enough

Isn’t This World Enough?

I often wonder and think, why do people believe in gods and devils, demons and angels? In my case, when I was a true believer in Christianity I was ignorant of the way the world worked. That is not to say that I know everything, but I’ve come to understand that the world functions on a natural course, no supernatural forces at work here. Science, and the way it teases answers out of nature opened my eyes. I can see how wonderful and beautiful this world really is.

I’m often reminded of a Douglas Adams quote which goes something like this “Aren’t the flowers beautiful enough without having to imagine that there are pixies flying within?’ That simple statement carries so much with it. The notion that our struggling little species is beautiful the way it is. Why invent invisible gods that don’t anything for us? They are not required to explain the beauty in which we live in.

This world is so beautiful, from the smile of my wife and my children, to the sunrise and sunsets, to a human helping out a fellow human. the friendships, and disagreements. the crushing enormity of time and space. Aren’t you satisfied? Is this world not good enough? Are your loved ones not lovely enough that you have to invent a supernatural creature to make them more special?

The chances that me and my wife would meet at the right place, and time are slim. The fact that of all the humans of the world, of all the times we could have existed, the times we could have died, or moved. I am lucky, no god set anything in motion, just random chance. For that I am truly grateful. There was no god at any point, just me and my good and bad decisions.

When I hold my children, I am over filled with joy, the amount of love I have for them, and them for me is overwhelming, it can make a grown man, get teary eyed. When my oldest son says to me “Daddy I love you”. The emotions I have are almost unexplainable, but glad I’m doing something right. Do you have loved ones that touch you to your very core of your being like that? If you do, isn’t that love enough? Are you not content in what genetics, and a millions of years of evolution have done to us? To make us feel that way? To bind us to our children, to our spouses? Isn’t that enough? Are we so insecure, and lonely that we must invent gods, and spirits, and life forces. Are we humans that insecure that we need a magic man in the sky to fullfill our wishes?

It is enough for meto know, that I love, and am loved by REAL people, . Suddenly I don’t feel so grumpy, have a good day, and be skeptical!

Crazy Email

This is the type of email I get sometimes.

“do you realize what would happen if you went out and gathered people and told them there is no God and teach skepticism? God would be very dissapointed in you. would you like to disscuss via email your frustrations with religion? I care about you and dont even know you, i feel you are hurt and frustrated with this dissattisfiying life, but there is hope and peace that I know you have never known, i want to pay attention to you and listen to your concerns and value your openions and concerns, i'd like to be your friend actually. Hey God bless you Jose, i want you know that you are really loved more than you would ever imagine. you dont have to feel angry or anything, thanks, Brother Rene”

Here is my response

When you say “god” would be disappointed which god, do you refer to? Your Christian “god”? Thor? Anubis? Ra? Odin? Can you be a little more specific? Secondly, how can you prove it? How do you know that he will be disappointed? Because your ancient fairy tale book says so? Let’s see my frustrations with religion….hmmmm where do I begin. First of it’s not a society of loving caring people. My brother happens to be a homosexual. Yet the people of Christian faith believe that he is “evil” or that he has “demonic possession” or some other thing. I love my brother for who he is. Religion slows down human progress. It claims to have the answers to everything! Yet in the bible they can’t even get pi right….so stupid. There is a whole lot more that I can gripe and complain about, but the email would be too long. What is it that you think I am “hurt” by? The only thing that frustrates me is the ignorant mobs of people who condone intelligent design and alternative medicines. WHO said ANYTHING about a “dissatisfying life? I love my life; I have a wonderful wife, two beautiful children. I got one shot at making it a good one. Yes, I do have to feel angry. Angry that these Christian nut jobs can say I have been a godly man, but molest children, cheat on their wives, and wage a war. There is a lot to be grumpy about.

Funny homeopathic video

I saw this video last night very funny, very true. I love the little snippet

"when someone comes in with a vague sense of unease or a touch of the nerves, or even just more money than sense, we'll be there for them, bottle of basically just water in one hand, and a huge invoice in the other. "

I hope they where drinking that homeopathic beer on the set safely, we know how much more powerful that homeopathic beer is compared to regular beer. LOL so funny that people still believe in this medieval superstitious non sense. I liked how they added some other whoo stuff, like astrology, and shakras. Man I hate that new age stupidity. Liberal hippies are just as bad as evil religious right wing nuts. well have fun. Hope this video made your day

Well hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm sending my regards from Mojave, keeping the citizens of the East Kern safe. I give my thanks to the enlightened fathers of our country. Those that died to make us independent, and give me right to spout my crazy rants wherever and whenever I please. Without fear of the government killing me, putting me in prison or other such threats. In other countries I would not be so lucky. All those men and women who have served and payed the ultimate sacrifice, to continue our freedom. To those who currently continue to serve. Be safe, be skeptical have a great weekend, and a great Independence day.

2012 the end of the world!!! YAAARRRRG!!!

well last week I saw a movie, TRANSFORMERS!!!! Which was awesome. One of the best i've seen in a while. Before the movie I saw a preview of a movie tittled 2012. The movie itself looked pretty cool, distruction abound everywhere which I love, could explain my love for transfomers. That set a thought process in motion. About the notion of the end of the world, or armageddon, on december 12 2012. of course you know what the ole grumpy skeptic thinks, the notion that the ancient mayans had some secret knowledge, stinks like a movie with Carrot Top in it. There is nothing to back up such crazy claims, and check out what mr. Dunning had to sayhttp://skeptoid.com/episodes/4093

The “Mayans had three calendars. They had a solar calendar that was 365 days long, and a ceremonial calendar that was 260 days long. These two calendars would synchronize every 52 years. To measure longer time periods, they developed the “long count” calendar, which expressed dates as a series of five numbers, each less than twenty ; something like the way we measure minutes and seconds as a series of two numbers each less than sixty. And, just in case this might seem too simple, for some reason the second to the last number was always less than eighteen. The first day in the Mayan long count calendar was expressed as 0.0.0.0.0, and by our calendar, this was August 11, 3114 BC. Every 144,000 days, (or about every 395 years, which they called a Baktun), the first number would increment, and a new baktun would start.” That was some awesome research done by Brian Dunning from Skeptoid.com

So anyways their calendar is merely ending, nothing more nothing less. They will start a new, I’m not so sure what all the hubbub is about, maybe some of ye more savvy readers can tell me.

(sorry I didn’t do my own research, long day at work, cardiac arrest in the morning, gun shot victim at night, I’m tired and want to spend time with the family, isn’t E.M.S. life quaint?) Have a grumpy day, but please ad a dose of skepticism when confronted with this crap.

Big Pharma

You know whoo comes in all kinds of flavors. One of things that I often hear is the evils of Big Pharma! often since I'm the token skeptic, I'm asked what I think of say Monavie, or wheat grass juice, or Kangen Ionized water, or whatever whoo. Often I say give me one day ill let you know. Usually there is so much whoo I can't make an on the spot comment on any given whoo. Anyways I usually say that whatever whoo they're wondering about is just whoo. Sometimes I hear complaints that Big Pharma is keeping these "alternative" things down. Big Pharma salesmen are seen all the time in doctors offices ect. ect. I usually respond by saying well lets assume that Big Pharma was this evil, money hungry entity keeping you sick for profit. If that was so, why don't they peddle this new age crap? Why let some rogue quacks take all the profit? Well it could be based on the fact that, well they just don't work. I really don't understand why people hate medicine anyways! Oh well have a good day

So Much Woo So little Time

alright, well not all woo is centered on religion. Of course there is TONS of woo out there, like the crap that Oprah Winfrey allows to be broadcast. Now she's allowing Jenny McCarthy to have her own Talk Show?!!! It's a sigh of the end of times I tell ya! Miss Oprah is truly crazy and absurd, and in the business of making lots and lots of money, So i'm assuming to make money, truth and reality go by the byway. anyways, NEWSWEEK calls her out on some of her quackery

check it out here http://www.newsweek.com/id/200025

so she responds by saying "For 23 years, my show has presented thousands of topics that reflect the human experience, including doctors' medical advice and personal health stories that have prompted conversations between our audience members and their health care providers," Winfrey said in the statement. "I trust the viewers, and I know that they are smart and discerning enough to seek out medical opinions to determine what may be best for them."

http://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/06/oprah-responds-to-newsweek-cover-story.html?xid=rss-tv-Oprah+responds+to+Newsweek+cover

She says that because SOME stuff that she said was true it clears her of any misinformation she might have spread? She tries the whole "I'm just putting it out there, and let the people decide" gambit. Yeah she puts her whoo out there all right, one sided biased crap. Like "The Secret" the most ridiculous and stupid thing Ive ever heard of...grrrr better stop before I get any more grumpy . Have a great day

Hey my fellow humans, this story is pretty cool

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8081829.stm

It sheds some light on well homosexuality. For all those nay sayers who claim that it is unnatural for homosexuals to do what they do well, it happens in nature! With other species of animals. Anyways, I just thought it was interesting that the biological parents didn't want that little egg, but they happily snatched it up, all in an effort to be parents. I see no reason why two human homosexuals wouldn't be able to take care of a college, who was unwanted by it's biological parents.

Hey, well I am sure you all heard about this story of this guy with "political and religious motives". He doesn’t like the way the world is clearly not being run by his ideology, so what does he do to protest Americas involvement in the Middle East? Does he start a blog, and start sharing his ideas? Nope. Does he organize a non-profit group to peacefully protest the war? Nope. How about write his local representative? NAH! Why he can just go and shoot a totally innocent soldier who probably has never set foot in a foreign country. So Muslims are equally stupid and illogical, I hope that they are punished severely. Not sure how much my hopes will be though, loll. The only insight we can gain from these tragedies is the knowledge that religion does not really guarantee morality in a person. This is truly another tragedy. My heart goes out to the poor family that lost a loved one.

here is the link

Grumpy People

Well I am just writing about a recent comment I received the other day. Apparently, my grumpiness offended someone. Lol. I was told that for someone wanting to make the world a little bit better, I sure have a lot of hate. Also took some insult of me accusing Christians of being bigots, and closed minded people. Which this person quickly refuted by saying that she was not “one of those” Christians. So what am I to say? Well here is what I think (although it does not really matter what I think)

First of all, yes I am rather angry and hateful, thus my alias of the grumpy skeptic. Why is this a bad thing? There are several reasons that I am this way mainly stemming in the way that Christianity functions, well the organized part about it. How they twist and control minds. The way it portrays itself as a religion of love, peace, and understanding. Yet proposition 8 was defeated by mainly who? Christians who have no compassion to those who are different. I also have a lot of anger, because I was once a very devout dupe, who expressed oppressive ideas, and worldviews. I unwittingly even oppressed my own family.

When I say “Christians”, I am typically referring to the hard-core fundamentalists. The eye for an eye, fire and brimstone Christians. Often I am confronted by one of those “open minded” Christians. To me, they are not really Christians, maybe some of you can help me out, but often some of these people drink to excess, have sex out of wedlock, and do drugs, support homosexuality. It has been many years since I have been to church, but typically, those things are not very godly things to do. How can a person claim to be a Christian, and knowingly commit these sins? Without trying to amend their ways? By picking and choosing what verses of the bible to follow? I suppose you can claim to be a Christian, but only be righteous when it is convenient to do so.

I do not hate Christians; in fact, most of my friends are Christians, and Mormons. The bible is not useless. It has limited use as a GUIDE. Not for literal truth, some people will have some reservations against me for that statement. I know some good Christian people, I love many of them. I just choose to make my decision on what’s right, not what some ancient book, and an imaginary person tells me is right.

So have a grumpy day! I hope you enjoy the read.

Your Thoughts on Murder

Well with the issue of the doctor being murdered lately, some people claiming that it is justified murder I began to think about the legal murder we have. I mean execution of criminals. I know that murder is bad, but how do we decide when murder, or execution is justified? I want to thank Random Factor in brining up a good point, I would recant my comment about wishing death upon the persn who commited the crime (or anyone else). My opinion on the whole thing I suppose is morphing. so im just wonering what everyone thinks on the subject of execution. I think this might be lively discussion

Those Fundies Are Up To It Again

Well those darn fundies are up to their crazy antics again. So a doctor who still performs late term abortions is killed.Inside a "house of god" no less, lol you crazy Christians make this almost too easy. While I don't agree with late term abortion, out of some irrelevant sense of morality, he was still murdered. What really pisses me off is the craziness that the crazy people are saying let me quote the CNN article.

"Absolutely, what happened to Tiller was justified," the grandmother said. "He [Tiller] forfeited his life by taking the lives of innocent children."

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/01/kansas.doctor.killed.charges/index.html

So obviously it doesn't represent all of the Christians out there, you have the soft Christians, who are rather open, and capable of mostly rational thought. Then you have these Fundies, that well, are almost incapable of rational thought, so much as to commit murder. The stupid and ignorant people who think that something like this is justified in my mind one aren't true Christians, or two show Christianity in in its true colors, a stupid close minded rigid way of seeing the world. A belief that cannot stand to see other people be free, and think, and act as they please. so long as it is legal of course.

In any event it's really sad, but I hope the person who committed this atrocity gets the death sentence, the world will truly be a better place without him.

A Good Day to Live

A good day to live

I will take a break from my usual rants and all the heavy issues that we face in our state, nation, and species, and talk about something that has touched my life. As many of you know, my son was in a near drowning. Can you believe it, in my line of work I have come across similar events, involving other people. I guess I just want to talk about that experience.

There is nothing like someone asking you if a loved one is going to be ok. A little life is in your hands all you can tell a very worried person is “I don‘t know, we are doing are best” It is tough, especially when you want to say something like “yes” to help them feel better. Aside from that; if you have ever seen on television, doctors and nurses, and hospital staff running back and forth, all in a effort to save life of a fellow human being, and been in a Emergency Room where a situation is critical, you will know that things like that actually happen, when I see things like that I think to my self “what a valiant, and hopeful little life forms we are!”. How in those moments there is no bigotry, no religion, no pre-conceived notions, the only focus is helping someone else.

As an agnostic/atheist, I am often asked that since there is no higher power, or meaning of life, what is the point? Our lives are short and insignificant, against the backdrop of the cosmos, and the depressing knowledge that time, will continue to run, long after we are dead. To this I say that the very point of life is to make the world a little bit better, to love our fellow human, just a little more. Religion gets in the way of that, it stops us from trying to see the world from someone else eyes. Religion is set, and rigid, does not allow us to change our minds about issues. Lying is wrong, have there been instances where lying was the right thing to do?

Life is precious, because we have a limited amount of it. I want to use mine to love my family, treat my fellow man well, and leave the world a little bit better. Sorry if it turned into a rant, but not my usual grumpy self. Have a great evening

Happy Memorial Day

Just want to say Happy Memorial day to all those who have served they put so much on the line and ask for little in return. All I can say is that I served with, and knew some of the best men and women of this country, some of them didn't make it back alive. Whatever your belief, doesn't matter if you think these war's were in are justified or not, we don't fight for our president, our country, we fight for our wives, and families, and mostly for the man (or woman) next to us who accompany us in the fox hole. Keep what your doing, I hope for speedy resolution to Americas international conflicts

why are there so many crazy people out there?

have you heard of this grade A retard? not the child but the mother of this poor child.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/05/20/minnesota.forced.chemo/index.html

WOW! Is all I can say. Well I can say more than that. Like that mother needs to be caught, and punished, and made an example off!! OFF WITH HER HEAD!! LOL. seriously, this person is truly despicable, she's got to be really, really stupid, to refuse to treat her child, and basically let him die, because she has a stupid holistic world view. She is truly lost, if she can't see beyond her own stupid world view to save her child. so the day begins, on a very grumpy note. GRRRRRR a little skepticism, and critical thinking would have a long way for this kid
