What Was Your Worst Punishment As A Kid? - WOOF! I'm Sniffing out Oddities! - woofwoof's Blog - Bakersfield.com

Help me with some perspective. I look at my kids, and they are GOOD kids, with eyes that say, they've never had a darn good whooping like I had when I was kid! I mean with a belt. Your hands on a chair and a good whacking with the belt. The worst thing for them would be a "time out " (i.e. 5yrs = 5mins).
Funny, I did something awhile back, I guess it was bad because big pup said I should have a time out. She said she could imagine *me* sitting in a chair, for 40-something plus minutes. We all laughed. Ah, good times, good times.
"Time outs" hurt them worse than a spanking. Not saying I haven't given them "swats", but that was when they were in diapers, they didn't feel it. And it was for running in the street or running away in a parking lot... just one good swat. And the firm "NO".
Now they're preteens and punishments take a different turn. It's taking away the things they LOVE, like, free computer time, TV, outtings with friends, or <gasp> their cellphones, if they have 'em.
Being a grownup, I look back at my childhood and think what was the worse punishment I had when I WAS A KID. We've all got battle scars from childhood, but was was the worst?
I was locked in a closet when I was little, but you know, I don't remember that. I've just been told that, so I can't wear that badge. That was my biomom's way of doing things apparently.
But one that stands out in my mind was when I put the leftover peas in the cupboard instead of the fridge. Apparently, they had gone "south". My step monster made me wash every single dish in the house by hand, beacuse of it.
All I could think was what the heck was wrong with her. I made a small mistake and she severly punished me for it.
Did I learn my lesson? No, I still make stupid mistakes like that. We all do. And, yeah, life's not fair.
And when my kids say "That's not fair!" I tell them, oh did you get the "Life WILL BE fair", card when you were born? But, they got it easy, and they are REALLY, really good kids. Or, is it just my perspective?
I'm trying to think what they'll say was their worst punishment when they were a kid, when their all grownup. But they're not there yet. There's a whole lot of time for more mistakes and lessons to be learned.
The punishment has to fit the crime, too.....
So what's was your worst?

When my kids were young, I learned grounding them was punishment to me. All they did was whine and moan and take their 'groundedness" out on me. Much better to confine them to their rooms for a period of time. At least there, I didn't have to listen to the bad attitude.

MY worst punishment was not letting me ride my horse for a determined amount of time. THAT straightened me up real quick!

When I was a freshman in high school I messed up and got caught lying. Me and 2 friends had tickets a few days later to see a "new" comedian, George Carlin, who was doing a stand up show in the gym at Bakersfield College. As my punishment, I had to give my ticket to one of my friend's sister and stay home. (At least I still have the 8-track that he recorded that year, but I don't have anyway of playing it...)

Jun 14, 2007 at 02:06 PM : I wasn't punished...

I wasn't punished much when I was a kid, although I do remember once when my siblings got to go over to a friend's house to play and I wasn't allowed to go and had to stay in my room. I don't remember what I did, but I know I missed out on a lot of fun and was mad about it.

On the other hand, I do remember within the past few months that my mom has figured out a way to get me to do chores. She started by saying that if I didn't do them she'd take away my cell phone. But the thing is that I rarely use my cell phone and am not attached to it, so she scratched that idea. Then she had a better idea. She said if I don't do the chores she'll take my camera away and that was that. She knows how much my camera means to me, so that was a real threat. She has never actually taken my camera away from me, but I don't always do the chores. I can't stand loading and unloading the dishwasher, etc. It bothers me, but she still asks me to do it. This reminds me that I'm supposed to do that today before she gets home from work. I really don't want to do it.
My mother hit me 29 times on my bare bottom until the paddle broke. My sister counted in the next room. I was about 12 or 13.

I was supposed to stay home that day, but I went out fishing. My mother thought I was kidnapped or dead and when she found out I wasn't, she decided to teach me a lesson.

But most of the time, my parents sat me down and told me how disappointed they were in me because I misbehaved. I always cried. And I never won an argument with them on whether I did behave badly.

I was supposed to stay home that day, but I went out fishing. My mother thought I was kidnapped or dead and when she found out I wasn't, she decided to teach me a lesson.
I was outta there at 15~and there are worse tales than mine. But I have to admit I am sad that reason was never the tool of choice, that violence, fear and hate fueled my early life~but then again all of that is how I got here, became me.It always seemed normal till I got around a bit and saw other families, then I tried to make my family try to love me~then I felt sorry for them.I am very grateful my MotherA and I had those last few moments to set things right, mostly for her sake.If we make new mistakes, rather than repeat our parents,we have"done good".
