This man was resisting arrest. It is irrelevant that he was 81 years old. An 81 year old could just as easily pull a handgun from his waist band and open fire on the officers as could a 61 year old or a 21 year old. Recent shootings by real old guys confirm this danger. This guy was fleeing the scene. There must have been a reason he refused to obey the law and sign the citation.

Cat~I would have to disagree with you about some of the women who have abortions~it really is not an agonizing decision for them and yes it is used as a casual medical procedure. I used to work in a medi-cal women's clinic doing intake. These women used abortions as birth control. 7,8,9,10 or more abortions in their histories. Now yes for some it is a tough decision but for a lot not so true. And frankly Pax is correct in one way, think about who has most of the abortions, poor black women and who has the highest welfare participation, poor black women, it is the political leaders way of keeping the welfare doles down, sad but true. No one really wants to admit we have this going on in this country so they just sweep it under the carpet.

As a matter of principle, I don't want anyone hitting me, regardless of age. Combabtitives training doesn't discriminate. The taser is about one of the few techniques those Security Force personnel are taught to use as "non-lethal".

They also have a sustainment brigade that is independent of those units. They currently have the largest post. That will be changing in the near future due to BRAC. Fort Bliss will be the biggest post and have the most rotations as they are picking up 6 BCTs and 90,000 personnel.

You think PG&E is screwing (indelicate term, but accurate) its customers, talk to a few employees. PG&E has eliminated jobs to outsource them to India. An employee union is filing suit. Whether or not this legal action will prevent or delay the lay-offs which are slated to take effect the end of the month remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, local news has reported that a Bakersfield customer has filed a class action suit against PG&E related to the billing coinciding with the new meters.

PG&E has cited the economic hardships for their lay-offs and outsourcing. At the same time the CEO and execs have received a substantial raise in the millions of dollars.

Equating clinical abortions with nazi atrocities is not an accurate comparison. The immediate flaw of that logic is that it ignores the human condition that leads to terminating a pregnancy contrasted to a policy of genocide.

Few women terminate a pregnancy as a casual medical procedure. For most, it is an agonizing decision. Calling them cowards and cold-hearted animals is not my idea of Christian compassion. It's that simple.

I could never really understand how you count "saved" jobs. Does it mean that you simply weren't fired or laid off? I think there may be a little fuzzy (warm and fuzzy) math going on. There aren't a bunch of bean-counters up there for nothing, I guess.

My daughter is one whose job wasn't "saved." She'll be among the numbers of additional lost jobs at the end of this month. It seems that somebody is doing a pretty good job of counting the jobs lost, but I still can't figure out how a job is saved, particularly by the government or its so-called leader.

Director Myrtis Mulkey-Ndawula said she followed the guidelines the Obama administration provided and multiplied her 508 employees by 1.84 - the percentage pay raise they received - and came up with 935 jobs saved.

I recieved some stimuls money. I gave my 3 employees each a 100% raise. That results in 300 jobs saved. Then I told them I could not afford the raise, and put their salarys back to what it was prior to the raise. Then I went to Costco and bought myself a Cessna 172 for my ~~personal~~ company use. We're hardly qualified, because our house is far from our first. Presumably a few people, similarly unqualified, have gamed the system to "qualify," thus ultimately sticking other taxpayers with the tab; the "tab" may be nebulous, but I guarantee it's there. When will it stop?

When we bought our first house, we were scared to death about how we were going to make the payments. But we did make them. These days, it hardly seems to matter. Those big, stupid taxpayers are there with a safety net to catch the ne'er-do-wells before they go splat on the rest of us. I'm sick of it.

I think it stinks. The Central Section should just split. There are too many schools in the valley and I think the current playoff format and leagues are flawed. The 5 division format with mixed division leagues just makes no sense when you are trying to determine a champion or rank teams.

Casooner, I will be the first to admit I am no economist and have a very rudimentary understanding of it. I agree that house prices are set by the consumer. With that being said, why is there a need for a tax credit to give incentives to consumers to buy a house? If the house prices were lower (less at least the value of the tax credit) or people buying them at true market value would there be a need for this?

I'm not really blaming creditors on this one. I'm probably placing fault more at the government which feels the need to keep prices of goods artificially high. If people don't buy at high prices, creditors and banks don't have the business. The free market should play itself out without the government trying to manipulate the numbers.

JF: I beg to differ (with your first sentence). House prices are set by consumer. Consumer can drive the prices up by willing to pay higher prices. This is then inflated by infusion of funny / stimulus money. Bottom line is the consumer needs to be responsible and buy a home they can affor and not a home they want to be judged by. Its all too easy to blame the creditors or the banks or the politicians, but there is only one person signing the bottom line. I do agree with your second sentence.

It was a beautiful day yesterday. Although I went into work on my day off yesterday morning and posted couple of comments, I spent most of the day away from the office and got 18 in at SCC - man are they're greens lightening fast. Albeit most of us work, there are some that seems to linger on PC all day and post stuff just to irritate others (namely, v, pogo, random). My suggestion is to reply to the post rather than use post as an opporutunity to take a jab at someone (guilty). Having said that, I don't really see a solution as every issue posted on TBC is argued right down the political affiliation line. I don't know if there are any moderates left anymore if the TBC is so divided by the red / blue line.

Well, money or no, science or no, somebody higher then us will take care of it! Mother Nature will do what she will with the weather, air, water, ice flow, etc whether we like it or not. John, 10% Reagan number? Then what happens after? We are at 10.2% official unemployment and could be high as 20% counting all those that have taken on temp jobs to make end meet.
