First off, Wayfarer, I'm a practicing Christian, so my observations have plenty of merit. Second, I know plenty of Theologians, Marriage and Family Therapists, Counselors and other professionals who would completely disagree with your arguments. In fact, my Grandfather was a Dr. of Theology and was a well respected Pastor in the Moravian Church (the oldest continuing protestant denomination which predated Martin Luther by 100 years). My Grandfather didn't neccisarily agree with certain lifestyles, but never once did I hear anything negative out of his mouth. Never once did he walk up to a sinner and tell them they were going to hell. Instead, he advocated love towards everyone. Through this love, God shows himself to those who would otherwise be turned away from his teachings. My Grandfather was the most honorable and humble man I've ever met, and I think I'll trust someone such as him any day over someone such as yourself, as it pertains to matters of Faith.

I took one look at the article you posted - as soon as I saw that this Priest advocates a "fear of God, " I knew it was bullocks. God doesn't want us to fear him. God wants us to respect and worship him by respecting and loving his creation. I respect your right to disagree, but the fact is that you continually promote hate, whcih goes against Christ's teachings, and you have been setting a poor example for the rest of His followers.

Actually, WF, I advocate increased education on not only safe sex practices, but also options instead of abortion, such as adoption. I am convinced that one of the major reasons people support Prop 8 is because they are threatened. They aren't threatened by gay people getting married, but by the possibility that gay people would make marriage look so much easier than their straight counterparts. I mean, can you imagine if this so-called sacred institution produced these hypothetical statistics:

only 10% of gay marriages end in divorce

children raised in gay marriages have significantly higher SAT scores

children raised in gay marriages are 78% less likely to commit suicide

As for sending PG&E a message by changing to Tiger, Inc. Yes it would send a message, but according to information I was sent by J Burris, the savings are not that substantially. Different amounts for different months. My though was, of course I'll pay less during the summer months, you don't use much gas during those months. You still get billed by , or through PG&E, and there are access fees for Tiger Gas to be able to use PG&E's lines. I personally think that when enough people change over, PG&E will just charge Tiger, or us more in access fees. Whatever they lose in one way, they will make up in another. I put PG&E in the same category I do Hall Ambulance. Monopolies! $1100.00 to go less than a mile. Unbelievable!

HM--It was hard to figure out exactly WHAT the book was about by watching Sioux's video. I posted that comment before my mom later posted a blog showing the actual book.

And I agree that, for any parents out there who are paranoid about homosexuality and would like their children to share their in their paranoia, feel free.

What's more, for any parents who are uncomfortable with ANY aspect of the public school system, by all means, put your money where your mouth is, part with those greenbacks and send your children to a private school. I would prefer that my children (who will be going to a public school) are surrounded by more open-minded children.

At the risk of being pummeled by my adversaries on here for nit picking, I just have to bring up something that deals with education but not along the same sex lines. I often see people use "mute" when the word actually is "moot" but I was surprised to see a teacher do it. The point is hardly "mute", especially on here.

Call me old fashioned but I believe school is for the basics in education and not for one sector to push it's agenda. (and no..In God We Trust shoudn't be in the classroom either.) The term family has always meant relatives and not just mom and dad or brother and sis. My family extends to inlaws and outlaws as long as they either either born into or married into the clan. There's no reason why gay couples shouldn't be referred to as family either. Too much is being made of the definition and most of it inaccurate.

I also agree with dgrealish in that you don't have to be a "Christian" to be against gay marriage. For a lot of us, religion isn't the reason we oppose it.

I've been talking about Christians, because that is my faith, but there are people of other faiths who will be unaccepting of same-sex marriage being taught to their children. Christians get the majority of the heat on this issue, but we're certainly not the only ones who are against same-sex marriage.

But what alternative to Christians have when what is being taught to our children as truth is so completely contrary to our beliefs?

Public school cannot play favorites. If you kid's teacher is a Catholic or a Mormon or a Muslim, they cannot teach their religious view to your child. Same-sex marriage is a social issue, not a religious one, in the view of the public school systems. Sociology is a required subject in ALL public school curriculums from kindergarten through 12th grade and is a core requirement for all Associate of Arts and Bachelor degrees in EVERY public (but NOT in a private) college in America. It is ONLY religious people who inject a religious view into the social issue of homosexuality. That's not the ONLY issue in which religious people weigh in. They also do it with the science curriculum over the theory of evolution which is the prevailing authoritative view of the natural sciences in the WORLD.

You're in for a shock when you see how much of you non tax-deductable pay check goes to paying the tuition for private school instruction. Dr.Heath, The sad part is that he lives clear across the country. I'd love so much to physically touch him. We have to send our Hugs and Kisses by way of snail mail, or through e-mail. We do indeed know how much we mean to each other though. When my ex and I were a young married couple, he'd intentionally pick at me because he knew I was the only one that would do verbal combat with him. It was years before I knew he was arguing on purpose with me, just to see if I would take him to task, as few would. Sending a 5-year-old home with a book about homosexuality is kind of a waste of time

It wasn't a book about homosexuality. It was a book about different kinds of families which is completely relevent to ANY grade level. It emphasized the traditional mom-dad headed family, but also acknowledges single-parent families, same-sex families, inter-racial familes, different race and even different religion families. It basically covers the whole spectrum of the kinds of families that ACTUALLY exist, rather than what the intolerent fundmentalist Christian right limits family to.

Religious-based schooling has been going on from the very beginnings of this country for the very reasons the Parker family proclaims. The Parkers are IDEAL candidates for such religious-based education for their children since they have specific views that put them in direct conflict with a public school education. Religious-based school TRIVE in this country. Their students EXCELL in all areas of human endeavor and unless the school is committed only to instruction in religion and nothing else, students from religious-based schools rise to the very top of society and are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the work world.

Since the FACT of same-sex families is NEVER going to go away, and the FACT that those in public education cannot simply ignore their existence, it is a far better solution for a religious family to put their children into a private, religious-based educational system or to home school them. Under that by doing so, it is a fact that they will be mirroring the same thing that happened when the US Supreme Court integrated public schools under Brown vs. Board of Education. That ruling is the very reason we had a great proliferation of private and religious-based school in this country. White parents did not want their children educated alongside black children so the moved to the suburbs and made religious education florish.

Since black people constitute nearly 20% of the population, the switch in school choice was significant. But with same-sex couple we're talking about less than 5% of the population and in that group, three-fourths of those families don't have ANY children. That means that in the average public school, there will be only 3 or 4 same-sex headed families with children attending. In the Palm Springs area, the number is much higher because same-sex families make up a full ONE THIRD of the population of the city (same for Cathedral City). Still, the numbers are not what anyone could call significant. But they are, nonetheless, THERE.

There are exclusions but these exceptions have to be for very specific reasons such as their partnership with Bakersfield imposing a surcharge on our utilities to build that new baseball park, after we fix the freeways mind you.

No, PG&E should stop promoting illicit obscene propositions and limit themselves to helping us maintain a stable City operational budget by collecting any charges our great conservative City fathers assign them.

Many people already choose to educate their children in the non-public system. Adding this addendum to the public education system will further the exodus.

I know I have said it before, but I'll say it again. You sound so much like my ex Dad-In-Law. He says much the same things as you do. In the past the US government had a policy of sending Native American children to boarding schools to separate them from their culture and socialize them with Puritan ethics. I think what will happen is that a few judges will make a law forcing all kids to go to public school. If prop 8 passes, it will just be struk down by some liberal judge in northern california just like so many other have been.

That's no precisely the case. If it passes, it will be appealed to the Federal courts of appeals and it may or may not be struck down. No matter what action is taken by the federal district court, if Prop 8 passes, it will eventually end up before the US Supreme Court.

There, the vote will be 5 TO 4 overturning Proposition 8 and that's where the SH*T hits the fan. If overturned, it will apply to ALL states that have a constitutional amendment barring marriage rights for same-sex couple or, exactly what the Religious Right DOESN'T want. If Prop 8 fails, it will stay in-house (within California) and that way ALL OTHER STATES will still be able to decide on their own as to what they will do. That is what John McCain supports. He's in favor of allowing each individual state to determine what they want. It's a FUNDMENTAL Federalist view of the law (a view that insists upon a state's right to make it's own laws that cannot be changed or disrupted by the US Supreme Court as long as a law suit is not brought before the the US court.

Romer's name appears on the case as a technicality since he was the governor at the time. He is now the superintendent of the Los Angles Public School system. Justice Kennedy ALSO wrote the opinion in this case on a vote of 6-3. The Amendment 2 essential made gays and lesbians strangers to the law in Colorado. It prevented them from having ANY LEGAL RECOURSE - WHATSOEVER - in fighting ANY act of discrimination.

Hey Sioux, I had to chime in about this one. Parents have the right to "opt out" of sex-ed classes in schools. It is considered their right to teach their children about sex in the manner they see fit. Prior to the class, a "permission slip" is sent home, and those children who don't return it, don't participate. Shouldn't the same apply to "same-sex-ed"?

Should Prop 8 fail and the State doesn't give consideration to families who wish to "opt-out" of public schools teaching such personal matters, Christian Schools and Home Schooling will experience rapid growth syndrome and the Public School System will suffer the financial consequences.

That being said, I am also not a homophobe and I understand that if we tell gays they cant get married it doesn't stop them from being gay. If they want to get married, so be it. I don't really believe that gays will be the end of civilization as we know it, and I don't believe it cheapens heterosexual marriages. We heteros will still be heteros.
