The problem FsG is that the government or least a few judges in California is attempting to force the beliefs of a minority sub culture on the rest of the population. This is the real violation of Church and State. As demonstrated by these links: http://www.salvomag.com/new... and http://www.mercatornet.com/...

Just how is it forcing a belief upon you? How are YOU PERSONALLY affected? The truth is that allowing homosexuals to have rights has absolutely no impact on your personal life. I've asked this question of you many times, and you have yet ot give me an answer.

As for your theories of Christianity, let some one who knows what they are talking about explain it to you. Here is a link to an article called "Talking to your Children about Same Sex Marriage." by Father George Morelli who happens to be an Orthodox Christian Priest and a Clinical Psychologist. It is a must read for anyone who really wants to think about the issue. http://www.orthodoxytoday.o...

First off, Wayfarer, I'm a practicing Christian, so my observations have plenty of merit. Second, I know plenty of Theologians, Marriage and Family Therapists, Counselors and other professionals who would completely disagree with your arguments. In fact, my Grandfather was a Dr. of Theology and was a well respected Pastor in the Moravian Church (the oldest continuing protestant denomination which predated Martin Luther by 100 years). My Grandfather didn't neccisarily agree with certain lifestyles, but never once did I hear anything negative out of his mouth. Never once did he walk up to a sinner and tell them they were going to hell. Instead, he advocated love towards everyone. Through this love, God shows himself to those who would otherwise be turned away from his teachings. My Grandfather was the most honorable and humble man I've ever met, and I think I'll trust someone such as him any day over someone such as yourself, as it pertains to matters of Faith.

I took one look at the article you posted - as soon as I saw that this Priest advocates a "fear of God, " I knew it was bullocks. God doesn't want us to fear him. God wants us to respect and worship him by respecting and loving his creation. I respect your right to disagree, but the fact is that you continually promote hate, whcih goes against Christ's teachings, and you have been setting a poor example for the rest of His followers.

Another question if certain fanatics are so interested in protecting human rights, then were are their voices in protecting children's rights from abortionist?

Actually, WF, I advocate increased education on not only safe sex practices, but also options instead of abortion, such as adoption. I'm against abortion in most cases, except for extreme circumstances such as rape, incest or threat of death to the mother. For those reasons, I cannot support a reversal of Roe v. Wade.

I'm merely speaking to the issue of the blog which is actually a call to boycott PG&E to punish them for opposing bigotry. But how will you do a search on Google, or click a Google ad without rewarding Google for opposing Prop 8? Who gets punished when they hit the start button on their Dell or IBM computer? All the phones call over the AT&T network to rally the pro8 base? How do you punish the largest phone company in the country?

Marylee is EVIL. She is a SADIST who wants same-sex families to hurt financially in this economic crisis while they continue to have to deal with housing and job discrimination.

There must be some leads. But unfortunately, because this crime doesn't threaten the community at large not much will be done, unless the murderer comes forward and admits guilt.

Thanks again Ray for re posting that list. It also makes the point that you are trying to strong arm us into agreement with the homosexual agenda. Where would America have gotten if they bowed down to tyrants. Would the Boston Tea Party ever happened? Would Labor Laws protecting the working man ever happen? Or the Women's Right to vote? Or actual real Civil Rights have happened if people didn't make sacrifices? Maybe the KKK is a sign. Perhaps it serves to remind us of another minority who tried to impose it's will on everyone.

I am convinced that one of the major reasons people support Prop 8 is because they are threatened. They aren't threatened by gay people getting married, but by the possibility that gay people would make marriage look so much easier than their straight counterparts. I mean, can you imagine if this so-called sacred institution produced these hypothetical statistics:

only 10% of gay marriages end in divorce

children raised in gay marriages have significantly higher SAT scores

children raised in gay marriages are 78% less likely to commit suicide

children raised in gay marriages are 82% less likely to be abused by their parents

Think about it--this is the real threat. If these hypothetical stats were true, straight people would never get married.

As for sending PG&E a message by changing to Tiger, Inc. Yes it would send a message, but according to information I was sent by J Burris, the savings are not that substantially. Different amounts for different months. My though was, of course I'll pay less during the summer months, you don't use much gas during those months. You still get billed by , or through PG&E, and there are access fees for Tiger Gas to be able to use PG&E's lines. I personally think that when enough people change over, PG&E will just charge Tiger, or us more in access fees. Whatever they lose in one way, they will make up in another. I put PG&E in the same category I do Hall Ambulance. Monopolies! $1100.00 to go less than a mile. Unbelievable!

What's more, for any parents who are uncomfortable with ANY aspect of the public school system, by all means, put your money where your mouth is, part with those greenbacks and send your children to a private school. I would prefer that my children (who will be going to a public school) are surrounded by more open-minded children.

The weather here in the Coachella Valley is heavenly: cool, a bank of clouds over Mt. San Jacinto. We're getting a high-winds forecast, but no rain.

You really should pull you kids out of public school if you're THAT cynical and discouraged about it. I got my entire education in public schools and so did my daughter. But this "exodus" hysteria you're talking about isn't going to happen.

You won't be accepting of the Jewish, Moslem or Buddist faith either and most certainly not accepting of NO religious faith and your kids go to school with people of those faiths, (or no faith) every single day. What next? Push non-Christians out of the public school system? Ban the teaching of science? Teaching that Noah's ark had all the animals in the world in it? What next from the Christian fundamentists?

At the risk of being pummeled by my adversaries on here for nit picking, I just have to bring up something that deals with education but not along the same sex lines. I often see people use "mute" when the word actually is "moot" but I was surprised to see a teacher do it. The point is hardly "mute", especially on here.

Call me old fashioned but I believe school is for the basics in education and not for one sector to push it's agenda. (and no..In God We Trust shoudn't be in the classroom either.) The term family has always meant relatives and not just mom and dad or brother and sis. My family extends to inlaws and outlaws as long as they either either born into or married into the clan. There's no reason why gay couples shouldn't be referred to as family either. Too much is being made of the definition and most of it inaccurate.

I also agree with dgrealish in that you don't have to be a "Christian" to be against gay marriage. For a lot of us, religion isn't the reason we oppose it.

Lastly, be wary of ChicA posting and don't mistake it for ChicO

AYK! Public School is not free! It's paid for by taxes, building permits and bonds. Public Schools receive money for each child who attends school. No child, no money. Why do you think they give out awards for Perfect Attendance? Each day an enrolled child misses is money the school looses. It's gotten so bad, some school's ask that you bring a sick child in long enough to be counted in attendance, then take them home. (I did this with my granddaughter a few weeks ago)

I've been talking about Christians, because that is my faith, but there are people of other faiths who will be unaccepting of same-sex marriage being taught to their children. Christians get the majority of the heat on this issue, but we're certainly not the only ones who are against same-sex marriage.

Public school cannot play favorites. If you kid's teacher is a Catholic or a Mormon or a Muslim, they cannot teach their religious view to your child. Same-sex marriage is a social issue, not a religious one, in the view of the public school systems. Sociology is a required subject in ALL public school curriculums from kindergarten through 12th grade and is a core requirement for all Associate of Arts and Bachelor degrees in EVERY public (but NOT in a private) college in America. It is ONLY religious people who inject a religious view into the social issue of homosexuality. That's not the ONLY issue in which religious people weigh in. They also do it with the science curriculum over the theory of evolution which is the prevailing authoritative view of the natural sciences in the WORLD.

You're in for a shock when you see how much of you non tax-deductable pay check goes to paying the tuition for private school instruction. Public school is free and YOU will be paying FOR that free education at the same time you pay the tuition at a private school. So public school will not be suffering. Your state and federal tax payment is REQUIRED. So go ahead. Make the jump to private school. Take your checkbook with you. You'll need it.

Dr.Heath, The sad part is that he lives clear across the country. I'd love so much to physically touch him. We have to send our Hugs and Kisses by way of snail mail, or through e-mail. We do indeed know how much we mean to each other though. When my ex and I were a young married couple, he'd intentionally pick at me because he knew I was the only one that would do verbal combat with him. It was years before I knew he was arguing on purpose with me, just to see if I would take him to task, as few would. He enjoyed the fact that I was opinionated, and he didn't intimidate me as he did others. We learned a lot about each others character during those years.

Sending a 5-year-old home with a book about homosexuality is kind of a waste of time

It wasn't a book about homosexuality. It was a book about different kinds of families which is completely relevent to ANY grade level. It emphasized the traditional mom-dad headed family, but also acknowledges single-parent families, same-sex families, inter-racial familes, different race and even different religion families. It basically covers the whole spectrum of the kinds of families that ACTUALLY exist, rather than what the intolerent fundmentalist Christian right limits family to.

Religious-based schooling has been going on from the very beginnings of this country for the very reasons the Parker family proclaims. The Parkers are IDEAL candidates for such religious-based education for their children since they have specific views that put them in direct conflict with a public school education. Religious-based school TRIVE in this country. Their students EXCELL in all areas of human endeavor and unless the school is committed only to instruction in religion and nothing else, students from religious-based schools rise to the very top of society and are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the work world.

Since the FACT of same-sex families is NEVER going to go away, and the FACT that those in public education cannot simply ignore their existence, it is a far better solution for a religious family to put their children into a private, religious-based educational system or to home school them. Under that by doing so, it is a fact that they will be mirroring the same thing that happened when the US Supreme Court integrated public schools under Brown vs. Board of Education. That ruling is the very reason we had a great proliferation of private and religious-based school in this country. White parents did not want their children educated alongside black children so the moved to the suburbs and made religious education florish.

Since black people constitute nearly 20% of the population, the switch in school choice was significant. But with same-sex couple we're talking about less than 5% of the population and in that group, three-fourths of those families don't have ANY children. That means that in the average public school, there will be only 3 or 4 same-sex headed families with children attending. In the Palm Springs area, the number is much higher because same-sex families make up a full ONE THIRD of the population of the city (same for Cathedral City). Still, the numbers are not what anyone could call significant. But they are, nonetheless, THERE.

Just because I don't have the time to look up the exact wording: is it freedom OF religion or freedom FROM religion? Either way implies that individuals have a choice in the manner in which they worship or don't worship - don't just the judeo-christian manner.

This is really a mute point. If you are doing what Sioux has said he did - rearing his bio and foster children with a specific belief system - then your children should be okay when confronted with things that may not conform to that belief system. Seriously, teachers have such pressures from administration and the state to teach standards, improve test scores, etc etc......the fear that some of you have about 'indoctrination' into some orientation is truly unreasonable.

Half of the people in this valley are beer-guzzling, butt-scratching farters! I hear tell that Arkansas has quite a few folks that fit that description. too.

The problem FsG is that the government or least a few judges in California is attempting to force the beliefs of a minority sub culture on the rest of the population.

One reason that both state and federal constitutions were drawn up was to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority.

Wayfarer - those "public boarding schools" you speak of are called PRISONS. When we point fingers and say "you are wrong and you are wrong and YOU are wrong" rather than seeking to find a solution is when our children are failed and they choose the paths that will led them to those aforemention "schools".

Here's a thought be proactive rather than reactive.

If Sarah Palin is the person I believe her to be, I look forward to reading a book written by her on what she learned about all the evil she found in Washington D.C. That is if they lose, which I'm beginning to think they very well might, for reasons I'm sure you are aware. I also can't help but wonder about how much she may have been kept in the dark as to some of the rang-ling, arm twisting, being bought off by lobbyists, and possibly even threats that went on during this bailout.

If prop 8 passes, it will just be struk down by some liberal judge in northern california just like so many other have been.

That's no precisely the case. If it passes, it will be appealed to the Federal courts of appeals and it may or may not be struck down. No matter what action is taken by the federal district court, if Prop 8 passes, it will eventually end up before the US Supreme Court.

Remember them? The majority being appointed by Republicans?

There, the vote will be 5 TO 4 overturning Proposition 8 and that's where the SH*T hits the fan. If overturned, it will apply to ALL states that have a constitutional amendment barring marriage rights for same-sex couple or, exactly what the Religious Right DOESN'T want. If Prop 8 fails, it will stay in-house (within California) and that way ALL OTHER STATES will still be able to decide on their own as to what they will do. That is what John McCain supports. He's in favor of allowing each individual state to determine what they want. It's a FUNDMENTAL Federalist view of the law (a view that insists upon a state's right to make it's own laws that cannot be changed or disrupted by the US Supreme Court as long as a law suit is not brought before the the US court.

The history of laws effecting gays under the PRESENT US Supreme Court:

Lawrence vs. Texas: Justice Kennedy was the CRITICAL justice from the Right that wrote the opinion that voided ALL sodomy laws in this country and overturned Bowers vs. Hardwick that *upheld* sodomy laws.

Romer vs. Evans: Romer was the name of the governor of Colorado who was against Amendment 2 that barred gays and lesbians from having ANY legal rights within that state. Romer's name appears on the case as a technicality since he was the governor at the time. He is now the superintendent of the Los Angles Public School system. Justice Kennedy ALSO wrote the opinion in this case on a vote of 6-3. The Amendment 2 essential made gays and lesbians strangers to the law in Colorado. It prevented them from having ANY LEGAL RECOURSE - WHATSOEVER - in fighting ANY act of discrimination.

I wasn't offended by the term "Joe six pack" but maybe that's because I come from the blue collar working class. I don't think it's a term I would have used in a national debate but it wasn't offensive to me. Looks to me like people are just looking for reasons to be offended by Palin.

As for the winking, that's one area I'll agree. One of the few areas. I don't like winkers no matter who they are. Never have. The only time I think it's appropriate is when someone is doing a joke behind someone elses back and it's a conspiratorial wink. Or maybe to a kid when you're joking around. But adult to adult straight on...nope.

I still enjoyed the debate.

wayfarer, I'm sure you know by now that they don't believe that precious little life in you is a child until it takes its first breath. Therefore it doesn't have any rights yet. I once knew a gal that used abortion as her contraceptive. Multiple abortions, screwed up with drugs, and low self esteem. Needless to say she committed suicide a few years back. Could not get beyond the lives she knew she had taken. Her lifestyle was payed for at taxpayer expense. All so sad!

Hey Sioux, I had to chime in about this one. Parents have the right to "opt out" of sex-ed classes in schools. It is considered their right to teach their children about sex in the manner they see fit. Prior to the class, a "permission slip" is sent home, and those children who don't return it, don't participate. Shouldn't the same apply to "same-sex-ed"?

Should Prop 8 fail and the State doesn't give consideration to families who wish to "opt-out" of public schools teaching such personal matters, Christian Schools and Home Schooling will experience rapid growth syndrome and the Public School System will suffer the financial consequences.

I guess it depends on your perspective. From MY perspective, "Joe Six-pack" is a cynical term used by ELITIST Madison Ave marketing directors sitting around a board room.

"Okay, we've got the young hipsters, but now we've gotta sell this product to 'Joe Six-pack.' Any ideas?"

We The People are a non issue to these corrupt treasonous politicians. I took the time yesterday to write some pretty scathing letters. As of this writing we still have that right, although that might soon be gone. I also took the time to write Kevin McCarthy to thank him for standing with the people. I believe this was manipulation at its highest. I believe this was intentional on the part of Bush, The World Bank, and the Powers that be. I've heard things these past few days that only an idiot would believe, but they did. Or Did They? It is my belief that we have allowed our borders to remain open for the very reason that the NWO is upon us. They want us to live like third world countries do. Why else would we continue to not do a dang thing about illegal immigration when unemployment rates are skyrocketing. They are bringing our way of life down while lifting the lives of others fleeing their countries. It has never made a lick of sense to me that we would leave our borders wide open, allowing invaders to stay, work with stolen identities, commit horrific crimes, bring drugs in by the tons, while we have a war on drugs. Yea Right. This administration pats itself on the back for keeping us safe. What a joke! With allowing cross border trucking, they are asking for something horrific to happen. They would have you believe all those rigs are thoroughly checked. Can you imagine the explosives that could fit in a 53 ft trailer? Both parties are knee deep in this scam upon the people, both us and the invaders. The only thing that keeps me sane is the fact that I know I am a child of God. I accepted Jesus as my Savior 24 years ago. I hope and pray that everyone will have the good sense to keep every penny they don't absolutely have to spend, as this will be a road taken that us soft,, selfish, greedy, Hollywood idolizing Americans have ever been down. JMO!

I'm not going to vote on prop 8 at all. I do not agree with homosexuality. That being said, I am also not a homophobe and I understand that if we tell gays they cant get married it doesn't stop them from being gay. If they want to get married, so be it. I don't really believe that gays will be the end of civilization as we know it, and I don't believe it cheapens heterosexual marriages. We heteros will still be heteros. I will not be tempted to play for the other team just because a state now recognizes their union. It wouldn't matter any way. If prop 8 passes, it will just be struk down by some liberal judge in northern california just like so many other have been. That's what happen when we allow judges to make law instead of interpret it, which is what their job is SUPPOSED to be.

The pain of the nations present economic situation is not enough pain for same-sex couples, says Shrider. Proposition 8 bars gays and lesbians from the most financially and emotionally stabilizing resources this country has - the institution of marriage - with it's near 1,400 benefits that keep families together and on solid financial and emotional footing. The only alternative same-sex couple have to try and duplicate the privileges of legal marriage by spending thousands on legal fees and that plan, too, fails in many cases.

Marylee Shrider is a heartless sadist who cannot get enough satisfaction out of mere prejudices. She wants to legally bar her fellow citizens from the safe financial haven that legal marriage provides.

And she calls herself a Christian and an America.

I don't know if she does or not. I didn't get my first credit card until I was 26...A year AFTER I bought my second new car. Money may not be as easy to come by over the next decade, but I believe if you have a real income, it will still be available.

No new Virgin Mary apparitions.

No sex offenders driving school buses.

Nobody drowned in the Killer Kern.

Rush, Sean, Jaz, Inga, Scott....I can talk to the regular alcoholic dumpster diver and get more intelligent commentary than the idiots on local radio. I've pretty much given up on local stations and listen to National Public Radio. If we ever get a news station, I may change it.

Ok Mike, here are my picks, since you asked so nicely.

Forwards: Bailey, Bolt, Caruana, Dey?,Huculak, Kronschnabel, Pope, Reinhardt

D: Frechette, Hurley, Morrow, Regan, Thomas, Veideman

G: McKee

Ya, I know, more than 8 guys. I think that will be another issue for the coaching staff to deal with. More send downs than planned. Thats not including some other possible send downs/aquisitions. We might see another year of multiple players in the stands. You know how Marty likes to stack the deck.

The problem FsG is that the government or least a few judges in California is attempting to force the beliefs of a minority sub culture on the rest of the population. This is the real violation of Church and State. As demonstrated by these links: http://www.salvomag.com/new/articles/salvo6/6karnick.php and http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/same_sex_marriage_lessons_from_canada/.

As for your theories of Christianity, let some one who knows what they are talking about explain it to you. Here is a link to an article called "Talking to your Children about Same Sex Marriage." by Father George Morelli who happens to be an Orthodox Christian Priest and a Clinical Psychologist. It is a must read for anyone who really wants to think about the issue. http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/articles8/Morelli-Smart-Parenting-XIV-Talking-To-Children-About-Same-Sex-Marriage.php

Letterman commented that she wants to reach out to Joe Sixpack because one needs to consume that much before she starts making sense.

I get the impression fundie-girl is covering her own insecurities with her own brand of snob appeal. Her opponents are experienced, have credentials and an education. They're "elitists." She can't field questions from reporters. The press doesn't show her "deference." She can't answer a question. She chooses to "speak directly to the American people" instead. She doesn't know the mechanics of Washington. She's "not a Washington insider." "I'm just a hockey mom;" "I don't fit into Washington society;" "I'm a mavrick." She's also beginning to sound like a parrot and I think voters are beginning to give up asking her about anything.
